Contract Marriage: Abusive Love with Mr.CEO-Chapter 767 - 397: Extra Story: I Really Can’t Bear to Leave You_2
"I am truly sorry for having once betrayed your trust in me... I’ve always felt guilty about it in my heart, even though I’ve tried to make up for it with everything I could do."
"I know better than anyone how much you lack love, so even if you later used me, made things difficult for me, and resented me, I never once blamed you. Because I too lack love, I understand your feelings... Precisely because I understand you, I have always believed that during the more than a year we were together, you couldn’t possibly have not cared about me as you claimed... I admit, this is some self-consolation, but if that’s truly the fact, I’d rather be kept in the dark for life..."
"I hope you can live well... and hope that in the rest of your life, you can meet a woman you love who also understands and loves you."
Tears constantly blurred her vision, and she constantly wiped them away but they kept flowing, so finally, she had to park the car by the roadside.
Leaning against the leather seat, she blankly stared at him in the rearview mirror. Suddenly, she bit her hand tightly to suppress her sobbing.
"Madam..."
The servant saw Christine Quinn helping Skyler Jones out of the car, and hurried forward to assist.
With the help of the servant, Skyler was soon lying on the bed.
After inquiring from the servant whether Marie was asleep, Christine returned to her room.
The room was so quiet that she could hear Skyler’s steady breathing. She looked at him and suddenly bent down to take off his jacket smelling of alcohol, only to discover a frown on his brow as she was covering him with the quilt.
She sat at the bedside and sighed softly.
He must have been bothered by something again, right? He’s always been like this; whenever he had troubling thoughts, even his sleep was restless.
... ...
A phone vibration interrupted the silence of the moment.
Noticing it was his phone ringing, she hesitated for a few seconds before retrieving it from his suit jacket.
The screen showed the name "Ivan Ruskin."
Christine glanced at the sleeping Skyler and then pressed the answer button. "Hello."
"Big brother... oh, sister-in-law."
"Hmm."
"Big brother drank quite a lot tonight, is he doing okay?"
"He’s fine. We’re at home, and he’s sleeping."
"Sister-in-law, it was really nice to see you tonight. I wanted to have a few drinks with you, but you’re pregnant, and big brother wouldn’t allow it, so..."
"I was happy to see you all too." These were heartfelt words.
"Sister-in-law, it’s been about ten years since we last met, hasn’t it?"
"Yes!"
"You’ve finally returned to big brother’s side. If you hadn’t come back, I think big brother would’ve missed last night’s gathering again..."
Christine was puzzled, "Returned?"
"Yes, big brother said there was a bit of a misunderstanding between you two, so you’ve been in New York all these years..."
"Oh, hmm."
"Fortunately, sister-in-law, you’ve come back. You don’t know this, but a long time ago, we all agreed with big brother to meet once a year, but as we all got married one after another, big brother always showed up alone and even missed our gatherings in the past two years... But this year big brother brought you, and we knew that big brother had finally waited for you to return."
"Waited?"
"Isn’t it so? Big brother hasn’t been in a relationship for more than a decade; wasn’t he waiting for you to come back?"
Ivan’s words made Christine’s body tremble slightly.
"Sister-in-law, big brother drank so much tonight because he was happy, right?"
"Uh..."
"Alright, won’t disturb your rest... Just don’t forget to invite me to the wedding!"
"Heh..."
Christine let out a dry chuckle and slowly put down the phone.
Ivan’s words stirred ripples in Christine’s heart. She hesitated, looking at the sleeping Skyler in disbelief.
Was it really just for face, or did he simply not wish to mention to Ivan and the others that she left him because of
"betrayal"?
And why did he make Ivan and the others feel he had been waiting for her for over ten years? In his eyes, wasn’t she always someone to be gotten rid of quickly?
Christine gazed at him deeply, filled with confusion.
The next day.
Skyler sat up, rubbing his aching temples, with the remaining alcohol causing his head to throb.
All that remained in his mind from last night were some vague fragments. It seemed she brought him back, and maybe she even said something to him... unfortunately, he couldn’t remember any of it.
After showering and coming downstairs, he saw Christine holding a plate of fruit, chatting with Marie about mother-daughter topics as they ate.
Hearing the servant’s voice, she turned around, her gentle smile meeting his gaze.
He halted his steps on the stairway, the scene before him suddenly froze like a snapshot, and he deeply stared at her smiling, beautiful face.
In the morning, as he rose from the bed to meet the sunlight, coming downstairs, he saw the warm scene of wife and child chatting...
The whole world seemed so simple, so peaceful.
The scene before him appeared as if from another lifetime. Everything looked so beautiful.
"Daddy――"
Marie’s soft call brought that frozen second back to reality, and Skyler smiled faintly.
Marie ran to Skyler’s side and embraced him, "You’re awake?"
Skyler looked down at his daughter’s innocent eyes, "Mm."
"Mommy said you got drunk last night..."
With the corner of his eye, Skyler glanced at Christine, "Mm."
Marie pulled Skyler to sit on the sofa, "Daddy, you shouldn’t drink so much alcohol in the future; drinking is bad for your health."
"Has my daughter not grown up, yet already she’s taking care of daddy?" Skyler chuckled softly.
Christine joined the conversation, smiling, "Your daughter is naturally a little bossy!"
Marie proudly sat on her father’s lap, happily swinging her legs, and sheepishly confessed, "I’m managing on behalf of mommy. Mommy usually indulges daddy too much."
Christine was embarrassed.
Skyler chuckled, "Alright, Daddy will drink less in the future, no drinks even at social events."
Marie nodded vigorously.
At this moment, the servant brought over a cup of sobering tea.
Christine said to Skyler, "You drank quite a bit last night; your head should hurt. This sobering tea will help."
Skyler paused for a second, looking at Christine, and then took the tea handed to him by the servant and drank it in one gulp.
Marie, feeling a little down, said, "Daddy, see how nice it is at home, with mommy taking care of you when you’re not well..."
