Contract Marriage: Let's Make It Real, Mrs. Sterling!-Chapter 272 - 271: Mia, Help Me Answer the Phone
After hanging up the phone, Martin Wright held his cell phone and glanced at the spot where Mia Sutton was just standing across the street, his eyes deep.
Then he turned around and walked into the hotel.
Back in his room, he still felt that person resembled Jensen Sterling. Although he hadn’t seen the person’s face, there was just this strange sensation.
Even though his mother said she came from an ordinary family and some characteristics didn’t match Mia Sutton, but... after a long time, he picked up his phone and made a call.
"Check where my uncle has been these past few days?"
After hanging up the call, he started waiting for the results, pondering over many possibilities until the information finally came through.
Martin Wright quickly answered, and after hearing what the other side said, the doubts in his heart slowly settled.
Perhaps he really was mistaken; that person genuinely wasn’t Jensen Sterling.
The information revealed that Jensen Sterling had been attending an event in the neighboring province, making it impossible for him to appear here.
Little did he know, if there was anything Jensen Sterling didn’t want people to know, no one could find out.
Just like from the very start, those people were destined not to know certain things about Mia Sutton’s past, especially matters related to Martin Wright. For instance, if he didn’t want Martin Wright to know that Mia Sutton belonged to him, then he would never know.
However, this matter wouldn’t be hidden for long. Initially, they were afraid the young girl still liked Martin Wright, so they cut off contact between them.
After so long, Mia Sutton clearly didn’t like him anymore, so there was no need to keep it a secret any longer.
But not keeping it a secret is just that; when Martin Wright finds out will be his own matter.
...
In the car.
Mia Sutton had already taken off her scarf and mask, revealing her delicate face. She glanced sideways at the person driving next to her, her beautiful eyes filled with a hint of doubt.
She asked, "Mr. Sterling, why are you here?"
As for Martin Wright calling her just now, she didn’t mention it at all because it was unnecessary. She had already informed Jensen Sterling when she first joined this program, knowing Martin Wright would be part of it.
Moreover, with negotiations settled with the production team, regardless of whether she got eliminated, she would only participate in the first few episodes because the end-of-term exams at Aethelgard were approaching soon. She needed to revise and prepare for her exams, so she wouldn’t continue with the show.
This was common knowledge among the production team and mentors.
So, regarding Martin Wright, Mia Sutton completely ignored him.
Jensen Sterling heard her words and replied, "I was in the neighboring province some time ago, and there’s currently a notice to deal with here, so I came over."
Mia Sutton nodded, understanding now. She thought, why did he suddenly show up and give her a fright?
She turned her head to look out the car window and continued to ask, "So, where are we going for dinner?"
Jensen Sterling made a slight turn of the steering wheel, but before he could respond, his phone began to ring.
Jensen Sterling’s gaze remained ahead, and he said casually, "Mia, could you please answer the phone for me?"
Mia Sutton’s eyes quickly shifted back from the scenery outside, landing on Jensen Sterling: "..." Her gaze dropped to the side.
After getting in the car, the man had taken off his coat and was wearing only a sweater, so his pants were the only thing with pockets, where the phone was evidently placed.
Mia Sutton lightly pressed her lips together, her demeanor slightly hesitant.
Then she heard the person beside her urging, "Mia? Could you please answer the call for me?"
Mia Sutton thought: It’s just retrieving a phone, not a big deal.
She then responded, "Sure," and leaned over, planting one hand on the seat, using the other to retrieve the still-ringing phone.
At the moment Mia Sutton’s hand reached into the pocket, the person driving abruptly tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his leg muscles tautening slightly.
His eyes gradually turned deep, like a bottomless vortex.
Even though it was late autumn and Jensen Sterling wore only outer pants, when the young girl’s hand slipped into the pocket, he could distinctly feel the warmth of her fingers seeping through the fabric. Although there seemed to be nothing, a tingling sensation swept through him.
Jensen Sterling’s driving momentarily paused.
Mia Sutton swiftly executed the action, and once her mind was made up to retrieve the phone, there was no psychological burden. She boldly took the phone out.
She then glanced down at the screen, which displayed an unfamiliar name.
Mia Sutton lightly licked her lips and said, tilting her head, "Mr. Sterling, it’s Brian Rhodes."
Jensen Sterling’s sultry Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, his voice a bit hoarse as he said, "Answer it."
Upon hearing this, Mia Sutton pressed the screen and connected the call. Before she could speak, a voice came through from the other end.
"Jensen Sterling, what’s going on? You said you’d treat us to dinner, but you’ve been out for so long. When will you come back?"
In the private room, Clark Jacobs immediately leaned forward: "That’s right, Jensen, this isn’t courteous. You left us hanging, including Jonah, and it’s not good."
Holding the phone, Mia Sutton found herself at a loss for words.
The phone was probably on speaker mode, as she could hear another person’s soft agreement in the background.
Mia Sutton: "..." She gently cleared her throat.
It suddenly went silent on the other end, as if someone pressed a pause button, an eerie silence prevailing.
Mia Sutton’s gaze flickered, and she slowly said, "Uh, Mr. Sterling is still driving."
...
The room fell into a profound silence, Jonah Quinn slightly raising an eyebrow, glancing at Clark Jacobs and Brian Rhodes.
Clark Jacobs finally came to his senses, leaning toward the phone, and chimed in: "Hello, sister-in-law."
Mia Sutton didn’t know how to respond to his salutation.
Fortunately, Clark Jacobs didn’t require a reply.
After all, people described him as a chatterbox. Give him a plate of peanuts and a bottle of wine, and he could chat with you all night.
Clark Jacobs: "Sister-in-law, it’s me, I’m Clark Jacobs. We’ve met before, remember?"
Mia Sutton was momentarily silent and awkward: "..." She didn’t really recall.
Soon, she heard Clark Jacobs continue, "We met once at a banquet."
After hearing his words, Mia Sutton thought back, and the memory vaguely resurfaced. She then smiled, "I remember—that person who claimed to be better at winning a girl’s heart."
Clark Jacobs: "...." Left speechless, he chuckled awkwardly: "Sister-in-law, that was purely accidental, just an accident."
Mia Sutton squinted her eyes with a smile: "Yeah, an accident."
