Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 39: Inheritance
Chapter 39: Inheritance
When Itai didn't know what to say, Flain suddenly stepped in front of him, drawing everyone's attention.

"You think he lacks his father's talent? Well, I'd love to prove you wrong. He started necromancy just two weeks ago, and do you know what he has accomplished?"
"As his first skeleton, he summoned me. And in just two months, he built a forty-member army. I understand that they're just skeletons, but Itai managed this with only two weeks of necromancy."
"Now, as for me—you're probably wondering why some random Bone Hunter is in the palace? Well, as you've surely noticed, my intelligence far surpasses that of other Hunters. And I have something else to show you."
Flain then cast Fire Ball, used Swiftlash, and summoned and recalled Aran.
"You're wondering where I got this? I was born with it. But you're all correct—Prince of Death is not yet ready to be king. So, everything will remain as it is, and the Prince of Death will ascend the throne when he is ready." Flain concluded his speech. Of course, there was a bit of truth and a bit of deception in his words—classic Flain.
The room fell silent, and then whispers began to spread again. Nexosaron shot Flain a rather dangerous look.
"You just stripped the Prince of Death of his throne," Nexosaron whispered.
Still captivated by Flain's speech, Itai turned to Nexosaron. "Everything Flain said is true. I'm not ready to be the king of this kingdom. I'm sorry, Nexosaron," Itai said.
"I will obtain my inheritance and return stronger. That, I promise you," Itai declared with determination.
"Very well then, Prince of Death. Though I disagree with your decision, I respect it," Nexosaron finally said.
"THE PRINCE OF DEATH IS AWARE OF HIS POWER AND HAS CHOSEN TO TEMPORARILY RELINQUISH THE THRONE TO ME!" Nexosaron proclaimed.
He then led the two through the crowd. "An interesting Bone Hunter," the first noble was heard saying.
They passed through three rooms before finally arriving at a set of doors. Nexosaron opened them, revealing a small yet luxurious-looking chamber.
At the center stood a gold-and-black table with two pedestals, each holding an item—a long gold-and-black gauntlet with claws at the fingertips and a book.
"That's it?" Flain muttered.
Nexosaron gave him an irritated look. "The King of Death wanted the Prince of Death to obtain almost everything on his own. He even forbade me from giving him any additional spells or techniques that he himself did not master," Nexosaron explained.
He then approached the book, lifted the glass cover, and handed it to Itai. "This book contains the Spell of Death Concealment. It allows you to hide your skeletons underground at will and summon them as needed. It is a fundamental spell for any necromancer," Nexosaron said.
Flain found it quite appealing. It was essentially the same as recalling his thralls into his soul, just functioning differently.
Next, Nexosaron picked up the gauntlet and handed it to Itai. "Honestly, I don't know what the gauntlet does, but I remember it being part of most of the King of Death's experiments."
Itai examined the gauntlet before putting it on his right hand. It reached all the way up to his elbow.
[Your master has equipped the Gauntlet of the God of Death.]
[Gauntlet of the God of Death: Allows the user to summon any corpse without needing to know the spell required for it. The gauntlet doubles the user's mana. When one of the user's Undead kills a being, the user gains 10 mana. The gauntlet allows an unlimited number of Undead to be controlled at once. This gauntlet can only be worn by the son of the King of Death.]
When Flain read that, an unreadable expression appeared on his face—this was way too overpowered. If it weren't for the restriction that only the son of the King of Death could wear it, he might have considered persuading Itai to give it to him, along with the basic necromancy book, and turning himself into a Lich. Unfortunately, he couldn't use it.
As soon as Itai put it on, his entire body began to tremble, and he collapsed to his knees. His eyes turned pitch black, and dark veins spread from them across his face. Nexosaron remained still, watching Itai. If anyone else had given him the gauntlet, he would have been concerned, but it was given to him by the King of Death.
The cracks and impurity in his eyes disappeared, and Itai stood up, staring ahead for a moment before looking at the gauntlet. "That was a strange feeling," he murmured.
"Well then, I'll be heading back to the normal world. But I can't summon the Gate of Death here—it's about 10 meters tall," Itai said.
"A shame. I was hoping you'd stay a bit longer," Nexosaron replied.
As they passed through the hall, the crowd had mostly dispersed, but two nobles and a few onlookers remained.
"Anom, I can feel a much stronger magical energy from him," murmured the noble with the pulsing sigil on his chest, a devilish grin on his face.
"He must have obtained his inheritance. We'll see how long he lasts," Anom muttered, his pink eyes locking onto Itai.
Nexosaron then escorted them out of the kingdom in a carriage. When they finally stepped out, Flain turned to him.
"Nexosaron, can I ask you something?" Flain asked.
Nexosaron fixed his gaze on Flain. "Yes."
"What is magical energy, and how do you detect it?" Flain asked.
"Magical energy is the general power of a being—it's essentially their aura. The stronger the magical energy, the stronger the being. It's mostly perceived through instinct, but yours is still too weak to sense it properly. Stages are essentially power levels that can be read from one's magical energy."
"For example, you are Stage 2, and the Prince of Death is Stage 1. When Undead reach a higher stage, they evolve into stronger beings—just like how you were a skeleton, and now you're a Bone Hunter. However, only a few types of beings have evolutionary paths. For example, the Prince of Death is human, and humans have no evolutions. So, when he breaks through to the next stage, he won't evolve into anything else," Nexosaron explained.
"Thanks for the explanation, Nexosaron," Flain said with a smirk, patting him on the shoulder.
Nexosaron locked eyes with him again. "I hope you get destroyed," he whispered coldly.
Flain's smirk didn't fade. "We'll see who stands last," he replied.
Itai had already chosen the gate, and the two of them stepped through it.
"Thank you, Nexosaron," Itai said before disappearing.

They reappeared at their base, surrounded by Flain's skeletons.
"Let's get out of this dungeon," Flain said...
