Descending Into A Novel-Chapter 117:City of Creatures(15)
Both of them stood outside, mentally preparing themselves.
Past these doors was a killing monster, something that had killed millions of humans. To the point it was given the name Bloody Fang Dragon.
But it was currently in its childhood, vulnerable and weak. It needed to be killed while it still could.
Raymond had used up more mana then he would’ve liked to. But Ellen could take over for him, she still had a decent amount left over.
"...should we have taken her access card?"
They were also standing outside because they couldn’t open the door to the enclosure. Colleen had taken her access card with her to help Lucy. Which in hindsight, wasn’t necessary.
Ellen frowned, with her newly healed leg. She drove her heel right into the door. Merely making it shake a little.
"Even Lin’s front kick is useless."
Raymond even got to witness the technique that bust his door down. But it was useless as well.
He sighed, mentally running the calculations in his head. With how much mana he had, using this spell would drain him even further.
"Time rewind."
It was the same spell as what he used to heal Ellen. Except rather then simply reversing time by an hour, Raymond was rewinding time at a constant rate. Searching for a specific time.
The door had to have been open sometime in the past, so he just had to find the moment when it was.
Basically, it was like playing a video in reverse, and then stopping at a certain frame.
His grip on his wand shook, feeling his own time-attuned mana running dry after rewinding time on the door by only an hour.
Seeing the door still closed, he swapped to his other attunement. Feeling it drain at a much faster pace just to maintain the same rate of time reversal.
Raymond briefly contemplated the option to forcefully speed up his mana absorption, when he felt a hand grab his wrist. Her stern voice loud as she condemned him.
"Don’t do that."
How she even knew what he was about to attempt was a mystery.
"I know my limits."
"And what if you get into a coma again?"
Faced with that sharp rebuttal, he could only meekly repeat himself.
"...I know my limits."
"Just wait for your mana to replenish."
Her eyes seemed especially more mystical today, staring deep into his soul. Raymond felt like his very soul was being laid bare in front of her. He had forgotten how intimidating she could look when she wanted to.
So he listened to her and waited an hour for his mana to recover partially.
He wasn’t trying to test his limits or Ellen’s limits today.
While they waited for their mana to recover. To pass the time, the two of them began chatting as they sat on the floor.
"We’ve been in Mirovia City but we never even got to try the transformations. Or the Animal World Theme Park. Or any of the fighting rings."
She mused, "We still have until tomorrow in the evening before we go. But I don’t think we can go to the theme park, it’ll take too long."
"We don’t even have the money though."
"I’ll find a way to get some from dad. Should we invite the others?"
At the last question, a strange sensation arose in his chest—his mouth opening without even realizing it.
"Why do we need to invite the others?"
There was a brief pause, a pause which made him feel keenly aware of his own shameful behavior. But he couldn’t help it! He didn’t even know why he had said that either!
"Just the two of us then...sure."
He was probably mistaken, but Raymond thought he could see an extremely faint blush form on her cheeks.
He was pretty sure his own fushed face was also just his imagination as well. Just. His. Imagination.
"...I think enough of my mana has recovered now."
"...okay."
It had only been about an hour, so he was still far from fully recovering his mana ( which was the only side effect of his high mana purity!).But he had reckoned enough had recovered now.
Luckily his progress was ’saved’ so he didn’t have to waste extra mana on rewinding time ok the door.
Rewinding time on an object or injury simply reverted it to its past state after all. He remembered once when a mage he was teaching refused to use it because he believed the injury would return. Despite the very creator of said magic explicitly telling him it wasn’t like that. He still stuck firm to his belief.
After rewinding time on the door by about five hours, it slid open with a whoosh. Making him instantly release his magic on the door.
Walking through, they found themselves in a white room similar to what the demon was in. This enclosure was actually smaller however. As well as the fact that rather then having fancy furniture there was...
Toys? And lots of papers with crayon drawings on them.
The two of them looked around the enclosure, which was more like a child’s room then enclosure. Still in disbelief, in the middle of the room—a small child with red hair stared at them. Two suspiciously dragonic looking horns sticking out of her head. As well as a pair of red wings and a tail sticking out from her back.
"Are you two my parents?"
***
Raymond sat down opposite her, Ellen joining him at his side. Seeing the familiar figure, the red-haired child ran up to her and sat on her lap.
He got straight to the point, asking Colleen. "What’s up with her?"
Collen covered her ears with her palms.
"RD is a bit...naive."
Seeing the giggling smile on her, Raymond didn’t find that hard to believe at all. Plus the fact she had so easily followed them just by asking politely.
"When we first found RD, we struggled on how we should take her into the lab. Turns out, by simply claiming to be sent by her parents to take care of her. She believed it, and just followed us."
"So you tricked her?"
"It was unbelievably easy. She believes damn near anything you say to her. Watch."
Colleen moved her hands away, letting her hear. "Did you know it says gullible on the ceiling?"
Her head tilted upwards, and seeing that the ceiling obviously did not say gullible. Hesitated slightly.
"I can’t see it?"
"You need to try harder. It’s very hard to see."
Her head tilted upwards again, her red eyes abruptly transforming into something more snake-like. With vertical slit pupils and yellow sclera, she winced.
"I can’t see it!"
Pat~
Colleen merely patted her on the head, before covering her ears again.
"As you can see. She’s quite slow." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Raymond couldn’t help but think about how awfully rude she was, all children were like that. This one was just a bit more unique was all.
Unique as in the fact that she was a dragon. A race that was unbelievably rare on Terra. Not a half-dragon, but a real completely full-blooded dragon.
"Why is she like this?"
"We told her she’s a human, and she believed us."
"..."
Wasn’t that going too far?
These things can kill you with a blink and you’re gaslighting them like this? Where was the pride of the magnificent dragons?
He rubbed his forehead, feeling a slight headache building up.
Seeing Raymond wasn’t going to ask anymore questions. Ellen took the opportunity to ask hers.
"Has she ever killed or done any bad things?"
"Obviously not. She doesn’t even want to harm an ant if she could. But we also told her that if she ever kills anything then the ghost of it will haunt her."
"..."
Now it was Ellen’s turn to be speechless.
Wasn’t this a killing monster? Bloody Fang Dragon was such a dangerous monster, they had to return from the frontlines during the third Human-Demon war just to kill it. Its rampage destroyed two entire vital cities, killing millions and causing billions in damages.
It was especially bad due to the independent state of cities, with the cut off of food and basic supplies. Although most cities were usually independent enough to produce their own food, many couldn’t do it sustainably for everyone.
"How is she still so...tame? I assume that there’s been many experiments done on her, that couldn’t have been good for her."
"For starters, I prevented my colleagues from doing anything too out of hand. Especially to RD here, but we also had to use a lot of candy and sweet talking."
Ellen was beginning to get a pretty clear idea of what went down now in the previous timeline.
Colleen was someone who treated other living creatures well. Being born in the City of Creatures tended to give you that kind of trait.
Naturally, Colleen made sure that she was never mistreated or harmed too badly. Until she was fired that is. Quite literally only a few hours ago as well.
So without Colleen breathing down their necks. These sick freaks finally had free rein again over what experiments they could conduct, and she was naturally a prime target.
Sometime after in the previous timeline, she had managed to escape from the experiments. But the pain had left her hating humanity, so she vowed to kill all of them...
Something like that... Ellen was filling in the blanks for quite a bit. But she figured it was extremely likely. She had shown an extreme hatred for humans in the previous timeline bar a single cloaked person.
Now the question was.
What to do with her?
