Chapter 347: Moving

The moving of the support base was quick enough for them to finish it before sunrise.

After Casper could reach Rurik and Freygar, warning them about what happened, they focused on trying to get all the people who were still being treated to another settlement.

After all, the most difficult part of the work when trying to move the location of the support base was transferring all the patients. Some of them couldn’t get moved in a fuss, some devices needed to continue helping their bodies. Mostly, they couldn’t stay long periods of time without those devices, or else they would surely die.

However, MMA was quick to find somewhere good enough to put the support base and stay away from the Frelsis. It made Rurik and Freygar start to work just as soon in moving the patients to that place without any harm.

The second issue was the supplies that they needed to transport, also as the tents and the rest of the citizens. Although the latter could take care of themselves, it was difficult for them to have such a trip on their own. They were encharged to help to carry all those items from the support base, so it wasn’t exactly easy for them to go to their destination.

Anyway, the Boss was masterful when choosing a near location that wouldn’t be of difficult access for them, but surely troublesome for Frelsis to enter.

He found somewhere where a huge river was located, and on the other side of this river was a city that was mostly dominated by Jarls who lived out of the Castle.

MMA asked them for help, so they would be able to cross the river with all their supplies and people. Nonetheless, for anyone who tried to do so without any relationship with those Jarls, it would be very hard to pass for that river unharmed.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t settle in that city. Frelsis were everywhere, and they couldn’t let the lives of the wounded people and the Aesirs get threatened in any way.

A city was still a city. It wasn’t that hard to commit a crime there. Even more in an average-developed city.

After several hours of working hard to get things done, they could, at least, bring everyone to the other side of the river together with all the supplies.

The Jarls who helped them didn’t want that a civil war emerged in their city, so they kept their arrival a secret. It was unknown how many Frelsis were settling there, after all.

Nevertheless, it was good that those were the only Frelsis that they needed to worry about. The others would be dealt with easily if they tried to reach them.

The group would have a lot of time to take care of their own business before they needed to move again. If they were to look at the deadline, maybe it was the last time that they were moving. In one week they would counterattack, after all.

There were some Ridires and citizens still in rehabilitation and being healed, but that week would be enough to get their bodies, at least, in an average body condition.

However, while everyone was rushing to get better results until the end of the deadline, Casper was worrying about whether they would be able or not to wait until the prompt stipulated by MMA.

It had been just some hours that Camilla had said all those things to him. However, he could absorb it well. He accepted that fact.

’In less than a week, we will be gone, and it will be my fault if I don’t do anything to prevent this catastrophe to happen.’ Casper was helping to carry some boxes filled with food to the improvised storage that they made.

They were given priority to store their items first before assembling the tents. Even outdoors, the healers could still hold on and keep the patients in a safe state but, without food or medical supplies, it was impossible to do anything at all, so they needed to focus on storing it first.

’I wonder what do I do in this situation? Should I take her words lightly, like a bluff or something? Or should I just throw myself into it and do what I think that will save everyone here?’

From time to time he would look to all those masked people working to organize the support base. He tried to find any trace of antipathy or indifference within himself, but he couldn’t do it at all.

After so much time living with them, he learned how to see them as similars, as human beings like him.

They cried and got angry, after all. They had feelings. They had their routine, their own life. They dreamed, failed, and succeeded. Casper could see every trace of humanity in their daily life, except those masks.

’I can’t just bring myself not to care anymore about them... It seems off to me. You know, it would be the same thing as deserting the Yanke forces back when I was still doing military service.’

In the end, a soldier would always be a soldier, no matter how much time passed.

"I think that you seem very aloof, Casper. Is everything okay?" Someone called out for him.

He put that heavy wooden box of food on the ground. He turned and spotted Freygar looking at him.

"Haha, I can’t remember exactly when we began to care about each other this much." Casper mocked the Aesir.

"I don’t know as well, but the fact is that you are helping a lot here, so it’s a must that you keep at your peak condition," Freygar admitted.

Casper’s heart throbbed for a moment. No Aesir had acknowledged him so openly before. Actually, no one except Vick did so.

Recollecting now, Casper couldn’t think of any time when someone was honest about his utility. Maybe when he was in the Sgails, but even there he had his doubts.

The White warrior chuckled, sitting on top of a box while crossing his arms.

"You know, Freygar, it is a long story..."
