District 42-Chapter 348: Eighth Aesir
The White warrior kept talking for a while with Freygar inside that storage tent. He felt like an idiot needing to vent with someone that was his enemy before, and that fought against him. However, he didn’t let this awkwardness get the better of him and kept talking.
He told him about the responsibility that he was feeling towards the people of that district, also how he wanted to protect Vick, how he wanted to change something, and his complicated situation regarding Camilla’s threat from some hours ago.
As he kept telling that story for Freygar, the other Aesirs began to appear. He was already so absorbed with his own inner feelings, that he didn’t even pay attention to them and just talked and talked for nearly an hour.
Ivar was the first one to arrive and leaned on the canvas of the tent, closing his eyes and hearing attentively what the White warrior had to say.
Afterward, Rurik entered the tent. He seemed to be missing those three. People were needing help outside, so he went to search for them. He was going to say something but got silent once he began to catch up with Casper’s story.
Canute and Ari came afterward. Those two were recovered already. They weren’t in top condition, but it was enough for them to start to help the others in their tasks and also accomplish their own goals.
They were there just because Rurik entered that place hastily and didn’t come out afterward, which was quite strange.
Canute didn’t like to see that Casper was holding them there, talking about some bullshit. He wasn’t going to hear anything from that guy but got interrupted once Ari seemed to be willing to do so.
He didn’t intend to leave his friend behind, nor force him to get out, so he swallowed his pride and stayed there. After all, if someone as smart as Ari found what Casper was saying to be worth his time, they probably could take something from that blabbering.
When the soldier finished everything he had to say, he realized that nearly all the Aesirs were there to hear him.
He didn’t get timid or anything, not even angry because the others decided to put their noses on that matter. In truth, he felt that they would not be able to win against the Frelsis if they didn’t begin to develop trust in each other.
’Wrong. They already trust each other. However, I need them to trust me this time.’ He thought, feeling a bitter taste in his mouth.
It wasn’t easy for him to think that he was alone all that time, but it was the truth. Casper barely had the quality of a leader that he had before. Compared to how he was back in the Yanke Forces, what he did in Halden when leading all those prisoners, or when acting with the Sgails, didn’t even compare.
He was much more skillful and cunning.
Nonetheless, he couldn’t bring himself to be a leader anymore. Whenever he tried to do so, he just ended up killing and disappointing people. And it all started after the slaughter on Black Widow.
The Aesirs kept quiet for a while, reasoning about what Casper said.
They didn’t know how to react to that information. It was hard for them to do anything about it.
Of course, they had split opinions about that matter. They didn’t have time to keep discussing, though.
As far as Casper told them, Camilla, one of the actual leaders of the Frelsis, was quite assertive when talking to him. She seemed to be confident that the Frelsis could pull through their defenses and destroy that support base. If not in the first attack, in the second, or third, or fourth... no matter how many tries it takes. That is, until Casper decided to cooperate with them.
"Everyone agreed with me when I say that Casper mustn’t go to their side, right?" Ivar said, crossing his arms.
The others nodded their heads. Even Canute did so.
"I think we don’t have any other way to soothe this situation other than letting Casper go there. However, if we are choosing the hardest path, then we must be prepared to fight against them soon or later." The Fenrir added, sighing.
He wasn’t sighing because he would need to fight. Actually, when thinking about revenge, the hair on his neck stood on end. He was more concerned about all those people still inside the support Base, also as Vick.
They couldn’t trust her life to any Jarl. She needed to stay with them. But it wasn’t completely safe either way.
"You are right. We can’t let Casper go, but we have huge consequences if we try to make things this way." Freygar said.
"I honestly can’t bring myself to think in a bluff right now. We could make him pretend to be acting by their side, but it would be too risky. Who knows what kind of thing they can do with Casper if they put their hands on him this time? You know, they can brainwash him or something." Ari pointed out.
"Tsk, in my opinion, we shall just put him into jail with maximum security. This way, they won’t aim at us. The problem here relies on the fact that the White warrior remains among us, but..." Canute was saying, and interrupted himself for a while, getting pissed off when needing to say so. "Well... he is one of us right now. We can’t do this kind of thing."
Rurik chuckled.
"Are you finally admitting it, Canute?"
"Yes." He sighed, massaging his temples as if he had a strong headache. "I need to be honest when saying that Casper may be the eighth Aesir. The first one on history, by the way, since we never went above the seventh."
"Well, I do prefer pair numbers, so it isn’t bad for me. Anyway, the real question is..." MMA appeared walking inside the tent. He was hearing the conversation all that time, "what are YOU going to do, White warrior? I think that, since you are the one with more pressure on yourself, then it should be ok for you to make a decision."
MMA stopped in front of him.
"Will you defend this base till death, fight back and try to conquer the Castle until your body crumbles, or go to their side?"
