District 42-Chapter 374: Tein
Casper leaped to the side again once Tein waved his hand and another wave of flames came toward him.
’Yanke, keep me updated about the situation around me, please. Couldn’t you notice Tein coming?’ Casper was a bit frustrated.
[ He wasn’t here a minute ago, master. The same goes for the other Vanir. There is something wrong with it. Maybe they are teleporting in strategic points. It’s safe to assume that they are monitoring us and all the steps we make. They don’t want that we break apart from the group and keep going with our plan. ]
After Yanke’s explanation, Casper clicked his tongue.
In the end, his new system wasn’t all-mighty. Not that he expected Yanke to do everything and have counter-measures to anything, but he still had the delusion that such weaknesses wouldn’t appear so soon.
’Anyway, I am not backing away. I am not weak anymore. I just need him to think that I am. That’s why I am just dodging.’
Casper avoided swiftly several waves of flames that came in his direction. Each wave was faster than the other, and it was starting to push the White warrior really hard, but he had everything under control.
’Yanke, these flames have Indigo on them, right?’ He asked
[ Analyzing... ]
[ That’s right, master. Maybe it is one of the reasons why he can control them like this. ]
The flames around Tein’s body began to burn again at full force, he was going to deliver an attack above de standards of the previous ones now.
Casper smiled.
’If that’s really the case, then it’s quite cheap!’
In the next burst of fire, the soldier didn’t back away but stomped the ground forward instead.
The Vanir was only relentlessly attacking him with an indifferent expression as if he was disappointed or bored by fighting against Casper. That’s why he couldn’t notice his intentions right away.
Casper poised the bright white shield in front of him, defending those flames.
He wasn’t expecting that the impact would be so strong, but he could stay steady on his feet and keep going forward.
As the shield absorbed the damage, it also absorbed the Indigo energy within those flames, its brightness getting more intense every time.
Tein finally noticed that there was something wrong with that shield and backed away as quickly as possible, but it was too late.
Casper aimed the shield towards him. Yanke helped him to lock his aim on the Vanir. His skill Enhance Weaponry applied on the shield, increasing the energy into it threefold.
The Vanir’s eyes widened as he saw a beam of bright light crossing the air toward him and striking his body, launching him several kilometers away.
’Ugh!’ Casper grunted as he placed his hand on his right shoulder.
[ Master, the recoil of the shield’s beam is way too strong for your body. You might be able to withstand it sometimes but, if you push yourself too much, you will mess with your shoulder or injure your back. I will keep you updated about your physical condition. ]
’Thanks, Yanke. It will help a lot.’ He thought as he moaned in pain.
Casper already needed to bear the recoil of different weapons in his previous world, and even inside District 42, but nothing was so harmful as the one of that shield.
"I think I will keep it just to extremely dangerous situations... Man, how Vick could bear this recoil with that weak body of hers?" He muttered.
"Wow! You are better than I thought you would be!" A shout echoed.
Casper gasped upon seeing Tein appearing again in front of him, walking as if nothing happened. He had a wry smile on his face and no harm was made in his body.
"I guess that our battle won’t be so boring, after all! No wonder Camilla always keeps an eye on you..."
’What should I do, buddy? This guy is crazy strong. He could fight on even ground against Ivar. I think that, even in my current state, I am no match for him.’
[ With a bit of struggle, you could beat him with my support, but it would be pointless. Master probably would destroy your body while trying to do so, and the least we want is you to get severely harmed. Fighting isn’t our objective here. Remember this, master. ]
The soldier nodded.
’Yes. I didn’t forget, by the way. But, when seeing someone like him, I can’t prevent myself to think that I need to eliminate him as soon as possible. He represents too much danger.’
[ You don’t need to worry about it, I already sent a signal to the nearest Aesirs, so they can come here to help master. It’s just a matter of dragging this battle as much as possible without getting wounded. ]
Casper backed away several steps while conversing with Yanke.
Tein didn’t do anything to stop him. On the contrary, he just kept walking casually toward him.
The soldier knew that he was the type of fighter to attack until he overwhelmed his opponents completely, so it was a good thing that he didn’t advance until then. When he felt like doing it, he wouldn’t stop anymore.
’Keep any of the skills you have to power up my body and mind to its peak, Yanke. I don’t know how much time this guy will keep acting so passive like this.’
[ Right now, he is clearly analyzing you, master. He doesn’t know how powerful you are, nor if you have another attack prepared of that same caliber as the shield’s energy beam. Anyway, I have all counter-measures prepared. ]
Casper nodded to his partner.
"What now? Do you want to trap me? Or are you depleted of any tricks up your sleeve?" Tein asked as he grinned at Casper.
The White warrior suddenly stopped to walk backward. A smile was appearing on his face, which couldn’t be seen through the mask. His eyes shone in a mischievous gleam as he answered:
"Why don’t you come here and discover by yourself, Vanir?"
