Divorce, Please: The Young Master Does Not Love Me-Chapter 132: Perfect
’A summons? We’re already divorced. How could we possibly get a summons...’
Tristan Grayson found it all deeply ironic. Just ten days ago, he had been desperate for this woman to disappear completely from his life. Yet now, he was terrified someone else would snatch her away.
A mere ten days had passed, and yet the thought of their divorce certificate filled him with such heartache and fury.
’If it weren’t for that divorce certificate... if it weren’t for Maggie Monroe... maybe, just maybe, he and this woman really could have been happy...’
The thought startled Tristan Grayson. ’Why am I thinking like this?’
’When did I start to resent Maggie Monroe for disrupting my life?’ 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
’Maggie Monroe is a dying woman. Can I not even make room for her in my life? If I can’t, what reason does she have to go on living?’
’No, I can’t think like this...’
’Maggie Monroe is innocent. I can’t think this way...’
"Brother..." she murmured, her voice laced with worry as she looked at the dark expression on Tristan’s handsome face and remembered his threats.
"Hm?"
She lowered her gaze, suppressing the storm of emotions in her eyes. She did her best to keep her voice steady as she spoke. "Brother, I’m sorry. I can’t divorce Tristan."
"Mika, do you have any idea what you’re saying?" Archie Summers snapped, his voice sharp with disapproval.
"I know, Brother. But it’s not just about me anymore. Surely you don’t want my child to grow up without a father, to live in an unhappy, broken home, right?" As she spoke, she placed a hand on her stomach, a faint sorrow clouding her features.
’Besides, she couldn’t think of any other reason to convince her brother.’
Archie Summers’s brow furrowed, his expression growing complicated. "Mika, how can you say that? Mom, Dad, and I... all of us will adore the child." ’He should have known,’ he thought with a sigh. ’He should have known Mika wouldn’t really divorce Tristan Grayson. That was just like his sister—the moment someone said a few kind words, she would immediately soften.’
"But a child would be heartbroken without a father. And I’m sure Mom and Dad wouldn’t want to see me get divorced right after becoming pregnant." ’She was certain of this. Her parents were quite traditional; if they knew she was pregnant, they would absolutely forbid her from getting a divorce.’
’Even if she was miserable, her parents wouldn’t want her to get divorced. Back in their hometown, divorced women were usually the subject of whispers and scorn.’
"Mika, you don’t have to sacrifice your own happiness for the rest of your life for the sake of a child." Archie didn’t know what else to say. It was her life to live, and he couldn’t force her to get a divorce. Besides, Mika had a point. A child shouldn’t have to grow up without a father or live in a broken home.
Even though he despised Tristan Grayson, and even though he believed the man was dangerous, Tristan was still the child’s biological father. Archie had known since he’d arrived yesterday morning that Mika wouldn’t actually listen to him and go through with the divorce. Still, he couldn’t help but feel disappointed and a little hurt. After all, just an hour ago, Mika had told him she’d agreed to the divorce and asked him to come take her home.
"Hah..." Listening to the siblings’ conversation, Tristan Grayson suddenly found the situation laughable. The mocking smile on his lips grew wider. "Rest assured, Mr. Summers. I, Tristan Grayson, would never mistreat my own wife and child." ’Was being with me such a terrible sacrifice?’ he thought. ’Countless women out there were dreaming of the chance to have him for a lifetime.’
A flicker of dejection passed through Archie’s eyes. He rose to his feet, faced Tristan Grayson, and warned in a sharp voice, "Tristan Grayson, you’d better promise me you’ll treat Mika well from now on. Otherwise, I will make you understand the consequences of failing her!"
"This is a matter between my wife and me. We won’t trouble you to concern yourself with it, Mr. Summers," Tristan Grayson said, his voice cold and dripping with disdain.
