Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 698 - 697: Coming for the Lu Family
Chapter 698: Chapter 697: Coming for the Lu Family
Lu Da secretly didn’t want Mayor Ma to get involved in his family’s affair, as he could cover things up if anything went wrong. But if the other party was involved, he would be restricted in his actions and would find it inconvenient.
"Old Lu," Mayor Ma said, "this is no trivial matter. I think we should go take a look together, so we can discuss whatever comes up."
If it had been anything else, Mayor Ma probably wouldn’t have bothered. But the pig farm was tied to his own vested interests, and after Lu Xinlong’s actions, he no longer trusted him.
A slight dread settled in Lu Da’s heart—this meant a lack of trust.
When he caught sight of Lu Xinlong’s quail-like demeanor and saw Mayor Ma’s distrustful gaze, his anger flared. He lashed out with a kick at Lu Xinlong.
"It’s all your fault, you worthless fool! Tempted by a woman, I’ll beat you to death!" Lu Da said, fuming.
"Stop it." Old Lady Lu’s voice rang out from the entrance. As she sprinted over, she yelled, "Nobody lays a hand on my grandson!"
"Grandma." When Lu Xinlong saw Old Lady Lu, he lunged toward her as if she were his savior.
Lu Xinlong’s cowardly posture was truly despicable to behold.
Lu Da’s temples throbbed with bulging veins as he suppressed his anger and turned to his mother, "Mother, why are you here?" Then he glared coldly at Eldest Sister-in-law Lu.
Eldest Sister-in-law Lu avoided his gaze and didn’t dare to utter a word.
"If I hadn’t come, would you have beaten my grandson to death?" Old Lady Lu scolded, standing her ground.
"Mother, nothing of the sort. We’re in the midst of something important. Go rest, and I’ll explain later." Lu Da glared at his wife and ordered, "Why haven’t you helped Mother back yet?"
Just as Old Lady Lu was about to speak, someone came running to the doorway, shouting loudly.
"Father." Ma Guang rushed in, yelling, "That wretched Chunhong has run away early."
Lu Da’s heart sank.
"Impossible." Lu Xinlong’s voice was shrill. "She was with me just yesterday; how could she have run away?"
"You know nothing. That woman has been gone a long time, and the gambling house is someone else’s now," Ma Guang scoffed.
"It seems this was indeed targeted at us," Lu Xinxing said grimly.
Lu Xinlong’s legs gave way, and his face turned deathly pale.
How could this be possible?
Chunhong bore no grudges against him, so why would she harm him this way?
"You, you idiot!" Lu Da pointed at Lu Xinlong and cursed, ready to rush over and beat the life out of him. How could he have raised such a fool?
Old Lady Lu stood in his way: "Eldest, it’s just a few pigs; is it worth beating your son to death for them?"
"Mother, that’s over one hundred taels of silver at stake! If something happens to that silver, people will suffer, and we could lose our lives!" Lu Da stamped his foot, his face expressing profound distress.
"Father, let’s not talk about this now. We have to deal with those pigs quickly; we can’t sell them." Lu Xinxing felt that things were increasingly getting out of hand and believed they should cover this up quickly; otherwise, the consequences were unthinkable.
"The nephew is right, Old Lu. The top priority now is to take care of those pigs," said a family member, agreeing with Lu Xinxing.
"Let’s go, to the pig farm." Lu Da stepped forward, making sure to bring along his damned son.
They had barely stepped out the door when someone staggered toward them, face and head covered in filth. Upon seeing Lu Da, he stumbled and collapsed at his feet. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
"H-host, it’s bad, the pig farm, the pig farm..."
"What about the pig farm?" Lu Da grabbed him by the collar.
"The pig farm, government officers have arrived!" the man said, his face ashen.
