Chapter 108: Two Fronts, One War

Lightning exploded from Bel’s body.

He blinked.

And the world froze.

Everything was still. He took a step, and the land below shifted. Another step, and another patch of land. A leap, and suddenly, everything was behind him.

He landed lightly on the branch of a thick black tree.

Below him, golden eyes glowed in the shadows.

Then more.

In the bushes, between trees. Creaking branches. Clicking fangs. A growl from the left, a hiss from the right. The forest below moved with snarling shapes.

Storm-Fanged Basilisks. They were scaled, six-legged beasts with long necks, flickering tongues, and tails shaped like bladed whips.

As for the Ruinwood Wardens, they were tall, gnarled, humanoid trees with glowing amber cores inside their chests. Their limbs creaked like old branches, and moss hung from their jaws like beards.

Bel sighed and massaged the wrist of the hand holding his sword.

"... There aren’t 2,000 of them here. They’re scattered. That means..."

He did the math in his head.

"Bolt mode is risky. And the draconic form... no, not yet."

He raised his blade.

A blue light shimmered in the shadows.

It swirled around the blade like smoke, then caught a blue fire, curling along the edge of the sword.

The forest rumbled. The monsters roared, and they charged.

Bel took one small jump, barely lifting himself above the branch.

His body glowed.

Then...

A wave of blue fire burst outward.

It spread like a mini explosion, a swirling dome of heat and light.

The Ruinwood Wardens screamed as they were incinerated instantly.

The Storm-Fanged Basilisks scattered, some charred to ash, others retreating behind water domes that hissed and steamed as they smothered the fire.

Bel landed silently behind them.

Sword drawn. Arm outstretched.

A spark cracked.

A chain of lightning exploded across the air, following a zigzag path from above to the ground, jumping from one beast to another.

With the water as a conductor, the electricity danced in all directions.

[Monsters Defeated]

Storm-Fanged Basilisks: 43/1000

Ruinwood Wardens: 44/1000

[Materials Collected]

Tempest Iron: 43/1000

Heartwood of the Shardroot Tree: 44/1000

Bel glanced back and nodded.

"Yeah. Good call."

Four blue spheres appeared around him, floating and humming.

He raised a hand.

[Primordial Drench]

The spheres pulsed, then blasted forward.

A wave of oceanic energy surged like a tidal cannon, crashing into the forest in a roaring wall. Trees broke. Earth cracked.

Monsters got pulverized by the pressure, and those who had the bad luck to survive found themselves trapped in a gigantic torrent, drowning slowly.

Bel lifted his sword again.

Crackling lightning crawled along the blade.

He slashed.

A violent arc of lightning split through the water, sending shockwaves that flashed like stars. Screams echoed beneath the surface.

The entire island sank into a churning storm, a battlefield of thunder and tide.

Then, in the distance, the sound of more.

Dozens of eyes, hundreds, maybe more.

Beasts on other floating islands had sensed the chaos.

And they were coming.

A stampede of twisted monsters began moving across the floating bridges of stone and wood, toward the storm.

Meanwhile, further away, far from the capital, in a wild, open land where the trees grew sparse and the wind carried the scent of soil and dust, the demon slowed in the sky.

Beneath him, a barren field stretched wide. Empty and quiet.

He descended.

Behind him, Lloyd followed, gliding with his red energy. Both landed softly on the dirt, a small crunch beneath their boots.

The demon looked around, arms behind his back.

"This should be enough," he said.

Lloyd raised an eyebrow.

"I was starting to think you were challenging me to an all-night race. If you needed a scenic spot, you could’ve just asked."

"I prefer doing business my way," the demon replied.

Lloyd tilted his head.

"Is this how you handled Darwin? Found a quiet spot and came back to leave his body?"

He said it lightly, but his gaze sharpened, watching.

The demon chuckled.

"A clever question. I see you’re trying to measure me."

He took a step forward.

"The reason I chose this place," he said, "is because it’s the best way to deal with someone as arrogant as you."

His expression darkened.

"And because... the people you called won’t make it in time."

Lloyd’s eyes widened slightly. Then he smiled.

"So you knew."

"I had doubts," the demon admitted. "But they grew when I saw how long you prayed. The great Sage Lloyd, mourning more than a minute? Not likely."

He narrowed his eyes.

"But you gave yourself away when you said something you shouldn’t have."

He turned, now facing Lloyd fully.

"You’ve been communicating with your allies since the beginning. Your plan is to assess my abilities. Pass it along. Help them prepare. And..."

He looked toward the sky.

"...one of them is probably watching us even now."

At the same time, in a room, the King sat at a crystal table with his two sons and Aurus.

Aurus clenched his jaw, his eyes glowing faintly.

The King leaned forward.

"What happened now?"

Aurus’s voice was low.

"He knows. He knows I’m watching."

Back on the open plains, Lloyd frowned. The demon adjusted his collar casually.

"That’s a second debt you’re overruling," he said. "You humans are all the same. Trickery, lies."

He sighed.

"Is it human nature to lack honesty, or just yours? You understand that you’re even more indebted than before, do you?"

Lloyd gave a slow smile.

"Is it so important for you to hear me say it out loud? Or is there a more strategic reason I should feel indebted?"

The demon returned the smile.

"I guess you’re not the Sage for no reason."

Lloyd took a step forward.

The wind around them was light, almost lazy. The grass swayed gently under his boots. He tapped his cane once against the ground.

"It’s been a while since I last fought seriously," he said casually. "My knowledge has only grown... but I’m not sure my body will follow."

He looked up.

His eyes, calm just a moment ago, locked on the demon with new sharpness.

"But then again," Lloyd continued, "you don’t need to be at your peak to crush an insect."

Golden light shimmered from his back, at first like sparks, then glowing steadily.

Its pressure in the air changed. It wrapped around him like threads of heat and gravity, pulling everything toward him.

The demon’s smile faltered. His eyes narrowed.

Lloyd took another step. Then another. His cane didn’t even click against the stone anymore.

"You picked the right place to die," Lloyd said, almost whispering.

The air trembled.

His golden aura intensified, spiraling upward like a calm storm ready to break.

"I expect a fatal fate," he said. "But before that comes... I’ll make sure to leave a corpse your ranks."

He looked straight at the demon’s eyes, his voice rising. fгeewebnovёl.com

"Open your eyes wide, Darwin."

And the light exploded around him.
