Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 313: Baja california
Before setting off to Easter Island, they needed to find the most efficient path and it turned to be way more difficult that they initially expected but the main problem was that both Nika and Uriel refused to go anywhere nearby Chichén Itzá as the place brought them bad memories.
They also needed to avoid crossing any country borders without permission, and because of Nika’s past as a member of the revolutionary forces she didn’t want to make any scales in Mexico. As if that wasn’t enough, locating such a small island in the middle of the pacific was a difficult task without GPS, but after the arrival it didn’t work anymore.
The only solution they thought of was to use Baja California’s peninsula as a landmark and then head all south until, hopefully, they found the place they were looking for. Although Baja California was still considered part of Mexico, there were no megacities there, only small settlements.
The zeppelin soared the skies at a seemingly low speed to be as efficient as possible with the fuel while Medusa and Luna raked up their brains trying to find a way to teach Sam how to navigate without a compass and to find his way once they were in the middle of the ocean but it proved to be useless.
In the end, it fell upon Medusa’s shoulders to pinpoint their location since she was able to make calculations in her mind no one else was capable of. By keeping tabs on the speed and the course, she should be able to know their exact location at all times as long as Sam kept the ship steady.
It wasn’t long until Uriel realized he had absolutely nothing to do. He had no knowledge on navigation and couldn’t be of any help, but there was something he could finally do.
He sat at the poorly furnished lounge, sipping coffee and reading the book Mister Scofield recommended to him. Then, just out of curiosity, he looked for Baja California and started skimming through the pages until he found something that interested him.
"According to legend, Baja California owes its name to Queen Calafia, the most accomplished pagan warrior queen. The name of the kingdom was never mentioned but their inhabitants were all female and they were known as the ’black women’," Uriel hurriedly cloed the book and lingered for a few seconds wondering if he should keep it a secret.
Before his marriage to the Air Spirit Swallow woman, he would have insisted in searching for that place, but mentioning it now could only spell trouble. After deciding it was better not to say anything, he continued reading just to satisfy his curiosity. "Riding a flock of tamed griffons... Wow!

This is something Luna would definitely find interesting, but there’s no mention of any treasure so, let’s see what else is there about this place." Discover more stories at novelbuddy
Contrary to his expectations, Baja California had a rich mythology and lore, but what interested him the most was when giants were mentioned.
"Melchior Diaz, the forgotten explorer, was a captain whose achievements are only known to the most advanced students. The original translation of his ’Coronado expedition’ made by Winship has been lost, but from what remained one of the most remarkable discoveries made by Captain Melchior was the tribe of the giants along the west coast.
Little is known about them, or if they truly existed, but most recent studies have pointed that the most likely explanation was that he was referring to the Cocopah tribe. Mmm, Cocopah tribe, Cocopah tribe, aren’t they the river people? I thought they lived in Colorado. How strange."
Uriel was about to midnlessly take a sip of coffe, but a sudden turbulence shook him and the cup spilled all over him. Then, the ship began ascending even higher in the sky which was a much better alternative than the opposite, but he still rushed over to the bridge and check if everything was alright, only to find Sam vociferating unintelligibly.
"What happened?"
"Fucking giants, that happened," He replied as he calmed himself down and then continued. "They took me by surprise."
Uriel looked down through the transparent material and saw a bunch of people throwing rocks at the ship. Other than the fact that they were all dressed in tribalware made with animal skins, there seemed to be nothing off with them, but all that changed once Uriel compared the size of the tribesmen to trees.
They were about three to four times taller than trees and the rocks they were throwing at them had to be larger than a car.
"How did you miss them when they’re so huge!?"
"I don’t know, they came from a cave or something! I can see everything, but not at the same time." Sam was evidently upset and there was no point in scolding him since Medusa was probably going to do it later.
As the ship arose in the sky where the rocks couldn’t reach, the tribesmen retreated back into hiding and Uriel was left wondering if it was even possible to take down a cryptid so incredibly big. So far, the biggest creature he ever faced was a beast rank mud crab, but in spite of their low rank they proved to be a bigger menace than a regular monster rank cryptid.
Cryptid levels only indicated the amount of energy coming off from them which tended to be a tell on how strong they were, but some were more adept at combat or resilient than others making them a much bigger threat.
The Pegasus passed the shore and ventured into the vast ocean until the land was lost in the horizon. It was a beautiful day and the shimmer of the sea transmitted a sense of calmness that soothed both hunters, especially Sam that was now completely free from the constant sight of cryptids.
For Sam, knowing that monstruous creatures dwelled in the depths of the ocean wasn’t something to fear as long as he couldn’t see them. Looking at the distance and seeing nothing but the blue canvas of both the sky and the ocean felt like taking a much needed break from all the unspeakable horrors he was now accustomed to seeing.
