Uriel meekly followed Vivian to her apartment without uttering a single word. It was as though his soul had left his body leaving nothing but an empty husk behind. The apartment was pretty much the same as the last time Uriel was there, though the damages caused to the apartment had already been fixed.

"Hang on, I’ll go make coffee." Vivian said awkwardly, still unsure whether or not if inviting him over was a good idea. It didn’t take a genius to realize that he had been through a lot, but fixing something like that was beyond her means.

She turned on the coffee machine and headed to her room to change, when an idea came to Vivian’s mind.

"What if he agreed to come because... he expects something to happen between us? I do owe him... and..." Vivian made excuse after excuse, to both make a move on him and to refuse if he did try something with her.

Nevertheless, she put on make up and clothes that were more pretty than comfortable because, in the end, it wasn’t every day that a regular person like her had the opportunity to make a move on a hunter that was also a decent human being.

As soon as she came back to the living room she dimmed the lights and walked provocatively towards him, though when she reached him she noticed his eyes were closed and he was already fast asleep.

"What was I thinking? Stupid!" She hit her own forehead and shook her head before going back to her room. That night, Uriel slept like a baby. A baby that did a lot of crying the night before, that is.

The peaceful night gave way to a chaotic morning, because he woke up to the panicked screaming by Mary who had just arrived to visit her sister.

"What the hell is he doing here!?" Mary asked after emptying her lungs in a scream that might as well shattered the windows.

"He’s my guest! He stayed the night..." Vivian replied trying to calm her sister down, but only managing to make things worse.

"Sister! You can’t... you can’t date him." Mary started loudly, but finished with a whisper as though trying to prevent anyone other than Vivian to hear her.

"This is none of your business!"

"You don’t understand, he’s bad news! He’s being hunted by the Celes company, if Miss Tina finds out you’re dating him..."

"Enough! We’re not dating, he just spent the night here!" This comment made Mary completely lose her temper. The fact that her sister was hiding a wanted person was bad already, but just the thought of Uriel taking advantage of her sister was even worse.

"I’m sorry for causing you so much trouble, Miss Vivian. I’ll be on my way now." Was all Uriel said before exiting the apartment where the sounds of the screaming match between sisters leaked out.

Although Uriel didn’t appreciate being woken in such a rough manner, he felt better now after having some sleep. While it was true that he now didn’t have a clear objective on his mind, staying with Vivian gave him an idea. Find exclusive content at novelbuddy

Going out of the city was completely out of the question because the minute he set foot on a gate he’ll most likely be taken in as a prisoner by either the Mapple corp, the Celes company or even the army. He wasn’t a criminal, at least not according to public records, but Uriel’s mere existence was considered a threat now.

However, staying with Vivian brought back the memory of the cryptid he killed at her apartment which made him realize that he didn’t need to go far to seek for a way to make money. Summoning a bloody Mary was too risky, but he was certain there were lots of different cryptids within city walls.

His first move was to take out his smartphone and check the forums for anything that could point towards the presence of a cryptid in the city, though most of the posts he found were related to a phenomenon that took place after the dungeon break occured.

When hearing the words ’dungeon break’ most people would think of a horde of cryptids rabidly attacking the city, but the actual consequence of such event was the complete opposite. Most cryptids disappeared from the lost city and were now scattered across the barrenlands, but the more dangerous ones infiltrated the city.

This came as no surprise to Uriel, who figured something like that happened as soon as he learned that Mark was turned into a vampire. There were many sightings of creatures of the night, mostly vampires and other forms of undead, but the most worrying ones were the shapeshifters.

’Man charged with grand theft claims he was impersonated.’

’Woman accused of killing her husband in cold blood says she was at her sister’s when the murder happened.’

Uriel had many encounters with the shapeshifting creatures called ’skinwalkers’, but he never thought there could possibly be a hybrid form of them and decided to stay clear of those creatures for the time being.

After scrolling down some more, he found some information about a ’slums heroin’ who had been saving people from mysterious accidents and Uriel quickly realized it had to be related to cryptids.

It was on the west gate slums and he dismissed it, thinking that it was probably Nika or Luna hunting inside the city, but he was thankful that whoever it was, he or she remained on that district alone and he had the whole east slums as his hunting grounds.

His first stop was a MacDolan’s where he grabbed some breakfast. After all, he needed to wait until night to start his new adventure and he had a lot of time to burn and he dedicated what was left of the morning into researching his new prey, not knowing that things wouldn’t be as easy as he initially thought.

"This might be worth looking into..." He muttered as he saw a post about a hunter gone missing.
