Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 381: Promotion
The skinwalkers ran towards the cornered hunters in a horde and since the lights were off, for a few seconds all that could be heard was the sound of battle, shots fired and the roars of the creatures with uncanny abilities. Needless to say, the hunters were at a severe disadvantage both in numbers and power since every single skinwalker was of the entity level.
They also had the advantage of being the ones who planned the whole event. It was their 'mother' after all the one who summoned the strongest hunters to face the current champions of the ladder offering an incredible prize, only to ambush them, imprison them and steal their abilities.
Everything was set ahead of time and all the skinwalkers needed to do was to wait in the crowd, act normal and capture the hunters after the tournament.
Uriel's presence threw a monkey wrench in their plans, but that did nothing to change the fact that they had the upper hand. However, what should have been an easy meal, instead was a long lasting battle for survival. Discover hidden stories at novelbuddy
The first hint of their plan going wrong was the supposed doppelganger siding up with the hunters, then gas lanterns and glowing sticks that appeared seemingly out of nowhere and finally, the presence of a particularly strong hunter that seemed to have taken Uriel's place.

Even after being cornered by the many entity rank level cryptids, even after the lights went out, Uriel couldn't keep himself from smiling. And the reason for that was a single system prompt that appeared when he crushed the last entity orb he acquired.
Would you like to consume the entity rank flux orb [Y/N]?
"Yes..." He muttered and a sudden pain took over his body. His bones cracked, his skin became tighter making him feel as though he was moth trying to burst out of its cocoon, his muscles throbbed, but it was all worth it.
[System notice] Heavenly rank successfuly acquired.

[Summon spirits] Passive: Stores the souls of the dead. Active: Summon the souls of the dead.
[Repentance] Unknown.
Even with Dash active Uriel barely had enough time to check his skills and he was greatly surprised by the last one. He felt tempted to use it, but both the effect and the cost were unknown so he decided to stick with the basics and summoned his Magnum to open fire at anything that came close to him.
He couldn't see anything, but because of their numbers Uriel didn't miss a single shot until the chamber was empty. Then, he stored the revolver to recover some ammunition and bought enough light sources to pass around, revealing the aftermath of his own doing.
Although his bullets would bounce off horror and most entity level cryptids, skinwalkers were only as resilient as the creature they mimicked, but that couldn't explain the massive damage his shots now caused. Guts were spilled all over in front of him and there was a red mist created by pulverized blood.
But Uriel wasn't the only one who succeeded in resisting the first wave of attackers. The scene in front of Luna was much more gruesome and even Nika had maimed a few of the attackers. Phlox was the ony one who remained in a crouched position, covering the back of her head with her eyes closed, still waiting for a hit that never came.
The former champions of the ladder were attacked too, but since most of them were ascended they didn't do as well as Uriel's group. Fortunately for them, though, the skinwalkers still wanted to capture them and instead of killing them, they just knocked them out.
"I'll kill you! I'll kill you all!" Shouted Dreadfist, the current champion of the ladder, as he activated his trait. His huge hands were surrounded in a strange gaseous substance and as he waved his fists he left a faint trace of it. Uriel didn't know what kind of trait he possessed, but it seemed to be very effective since even the skinwalkers showed a great deal of pain after inhaling the gas.
With every punch he landed, the gas became more dense until his fist couldn't be seen anymore. Any creature that dared to come near him was thrown several meters away. Had they been humans or even doppelgangers, they would have been killed by the sheer power behind his fists, but those were entity rank cryptids and their innate regenerative abilities made all of his efforts useless.
"Aim for their flux orbs!" Uriel shouted at the man trying to help, but the man paid no heed to his words. He had seen Uriel fight before and deemed him unworthy of even talking to him.
But that wasn't the case of the huntress with the long legs, the one that previously cut his mask in half. She not only respected Uriel for his strength, she also noticed how those who were along with him were able to kill a couple skinwalkers right in front of her eyes.
But knowing what she had to do and succeeding in doing it were two differnt things and she struggled to fight as many opponents on her own until she had no choice but to join Uriel's group.
That proved to be the right decision, as all the former champions screamed in pain until their sounds became muffled and several cryptids emerged from the platform looking exactly like the champions they just defeated.
"Just when it seemed we were going to make it... Anyway, good luck guys!" Nika sighed as she disappeared on Uriel's shadow.

"Nika, you bastard!" Uriel growled.
"Uhm..." Luna gazed at Uriel as if asking permission to which Uriel simply nodded and Luna began her transformation. It was a painful process, but it was necessary if they wanted to come out of that place alive.
"Miss Phlox, would you mind using your trait on Luna?" Uriel asked when he noticed that a few doppelgangers entered the scene, making this an even more unbalanced fight.
