Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 386: Tina’s engagement
Mary walked out of the taxi wearing her high end clothes, nice make up and a lovely designer bag gifted to her by Tina. It was her first day coming back to her 'Tina's best friend' role after she was blinded by the cryptid on her sister's apartment. Had that been all, maybe she could have resumed her normal life without thinking much of it.
Being blinded for a short period of time was not unusual for hunters, especially heavenly rank hunters like her.
The problem was that she was also captured by the skinwalkers and she had no one to talk to about it. No one would have believed her if she told them about Bloody Mary, let alone about cryptids and hybrids infiltrating the city and overtaking a whole district.

Because of that, even though she looked just like usual, her facial expression was bitter and she couldn't muster a genuine smile which was a problem considering an important part of her 'job' as Tina's best friend was precisely to keep a smile all day.
She walked towards Tina's apartment like she was heading to the gallows, knowing full well that she might get kicked out by her, but she couldn't back down. However, as soon as she entered the apartment she found a scene she didn't expect.
There was Sophie trying to comfort Tina who kept her face buried on a pillow. Tina was so upset she didn't even hear Mary entering the apartment in spite of her keen hunter senses.
"It's going to be fine, just calm down." Sophie said as she rubbed Tina's back.
"What's going on?" Mary asked, the puzzled expression on her face somewhat appeasing her bitter mood.
"Mary! You're back!" Tina's hair was disheveled and she looked nothing like the wealthy heiress to the Celes company she knew. Mary also thought she perceived a certain warmth in her tone of voice, but that might have been her imagination. After all, she knew she was no one to Tina, not really. Being her friend was an actual job, a very strict one at that.
"Yes..." She awkwardly replied.
"My father, he's having me marry Mark... this time for real and there's nothing I can do to avoid it. I'd rather end myself than marrying that piece of..."
In other times, Mary would have been shocked by Tina's words. After all, Mark was handsome, rich and strong. He was among the most popular students on the whole college and his background was flawless. But now she knew it was all a facade, she didn't know he was a vampire, but she was aware that he was a proper jerk.
Both Mary and Sophie did her best to calm Tina down, but nothing worked. All they could do was to offer shallow words that seemed taken from a script rather, but they couldn't be blamed for that since they really didn't know her.
Then, Tina's face lit up with a strange expression, one they've only seen on rare occasions.
"What if... what if I went ahead and married someone else?"
"That won't work, your father would be furious." Sophie, the wisest among the three replied, but Mary had a different idea.
"What about Uriel?"
"Uri?" Tina sobbed.
"He's a strong hunter, reliable and he's also the CEO of the..." Mary covered her mouth after realizing her blunder, but Tina's eyes sharpened.
"What are you talking about?" More than asking a question, Tina was demanding an answer and Mary was left with no choice but to tell her everything she knew about Uriel.
Of course she couldn't tell her that he defeated an entity level cryptid because it happened inside the city, but she told him pretty much everything she knew about him which unfortunately for him, also included the location of the Dungeon Raiders headquarters.

"Can someone please get that door!?" Uriel shouted from the meeting room where he was currently reading all he could find about the Navajo tribe in hopes of finding a way to defeat the skinwalkers.
He knew he read somewhere a tale about skinwalkers, that was where he learned they were weak to silver in the first place, but he couldn't remember the exact book and the knocking on the door was driving him crazy.
"Not it." Said Nika without taking her eyes from the TV.
"I'm busy... this is important." Luna replied with her face pretty much stuffed in a book of her interest.
"Fine, I'll go, but only this once," Medusa stood up with a disgruntled expression, which only worsened once she saw the person on the other side of the door. "You! How dare you come here uninvited!?"
"Please, don't shut the door... I beg you." Charlie pleaded.
"You have no right to knock on our door after you abandoned us!"
"I can explain... please, let me in." Charlie looked back as though she was being pursued by someone or something.
"Don't play me for a fool, I know who you're allied with..."
"Please, let me in. I swear I mean no harm! I also brought this." Charlie showed Jon's Fedora.
"This is uncle Jon's! Where did you get it?" Medusa asked as she stepped aside to let Charlie in, but Charlie didn't move.
"Won't you invite me?"
"Geez! Come in!" Medusa scoffed and Charlie hurried inside letting out a sigh of relief as soon as she stepped inside.
"What's all this fuss about?" Uriel asked as he walked down the stairs. "Hey! That's my hat!"
"It's uncle Jon's!" Medusa puffed her cheeks, but Uriel ignored her and took the hat from Charlie's hands. "You can go now."
"Please, I need your help!" Charlie begged as she fell on her knees. She was dressed in her usual clothes, but something about her was different and now that Uriel was a heavenly rank hunter he was able to feel it.
"I can't believe this, you dropped us like a bad habit because we were 'siding with cryptids' and now you became one yourself." Uriel mercilessly laughed at Charlie, but Medusa was taken aback by the revelation.
"She's a cryptid!?"
"No, I'm what you call a hybrid... Mark turned me into this, but I can't take this anymore. All I'm asking you is to hear me out and then you can do whatever you want with me." Charlie sniffled and then added. "Mark is engaged to Miss Tina Celes... and if that marriage takes place, this city will be wiped out."
