Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 574: Out of serum
Despite his poor health, Jon Hunter was still capable of harnessing vast amounts of flux energy and if not for the Pegasus insulated alloy frame every cryptid in the surroundings would have been able to sense it.
But that didn't mean they were safe, in fact, when Luna asked Jon to channel his flux energy she didn't take into consideration that, as an ascended, she was bound to suffer the side effects caused by the rampaging energies in the room.
Lamar quickly grabbed her and took her to a sealed room in another corner of the ship under the blinking red lights Phlox turned on after noticing the strange phenomenon.
This unfortunately meant that Luna couldn't see the effects taking place in Jon's body, but because of Uriel's rank and his acquired resistance to foreign flux signatures after spending so much time with Water warlock he was able to see everything in full.
As Jon's energy exploded outside, tiny sparkling particles of golden color showed up in Jon's flesh. At first it was nothing but a few here and there, but the more energy Jon channeled the more they appeared until he looked like someone who was bathed in gold dust.
"Is it working?" Jon asked, but the answer to his question came in the form of an immense pain coursing through his body. Had Luna been there, she would have pointed out that the gold dust had kept his nerves from working properly which numbed the pain. It could have been considered a good thing, but it also nullified Jon's holy rank regeneration.
No matter how much serum they gave him or what treatment they attempted, as long as the gold dust remained inside his body he wouldn't be able to recover.
"It is, keep going." Uriel said as he popped open an energy drink can and emptied it in Jon's screaming mouth hoping at least some of it would end up in his system and help him channel his flux even if for a minute longer.
The process of purging the gold dust couldn't be described as anything but torture and the worst part was that Jon had to do it all himself. He knew that if he fainted or if he stopped channeling his energy, he would most likely need to wait even more to recover enough flux to attempt it again only to repeat the same process.
For a brief second Jon was amazed by Uriel's nonchalant attitude in front of the massive energy running wild in the room, it was so immense the lights popped like balloons and electronic devices turned themselves on and off until smoke arose from their capacitors, it was so boundless even evolved hunters would die in its presence and yet, Uriel was fine.
On the other hand, Uriel wasn't impressed by Jon's tolerance for pain. The holy rank hunter screamed and kicked with his remaining leg and the stump where the other leg was supposed to be while battering his arm in the air like he was attempting to fly. The med bay was reinforced, but his movements shook the entire ship causing it to move like a mechanic bull.
Uriel had gone through far worse on many occasions without making such a fuss, but he knew the worst part had yet to come and the true pain would only take place once his pain receptors regenerated.
'What am I supposed to do now?' Uriel asked himself after emptying the seventh can of energy drink on Jon's mouth. He thought back at the first time he experienced that kind of pain, his childhood memories with the changeling that fed on him for years were fuzzy, but Uriel knew nothing that thing had done to him could have been as painful as having his own heart eaten in front of him.
It happened in the mystical realm and he was only able to remember that after Medusa used her trait on him, but now he remembered everything. He remembered thinking he would give anything for the pain to stop and would have much rather died than suffer through that, however, he also remembered how at that time he wished he wasn't alone.
"Everything will be okay." Uriel grabbed Jon's hand to reassure him. For a brief second Jon was gobsmacked by his caring display, but that only lasted until his pain receptors regenerated and roared in pain muffling the cracking sound of every bone in Uriel's hand cracking.

"How is the patient doing?" Luna asked Lamar after hearing from Medusa what happened while she was unconscious.
"It seems there was residual flux energy within his body which interfered with his ability to heal. I must commend you for suggesting him to purge it, the process was painful but now he just needs fluids, but the full recovery will last for a month probably. Unfortunately, because of the patient's energy outburst we couldn't gather any data with our medical devices." Lamar adjusted his glasses.
"That's uhm... nice to know, but I was asking about Uriel."
"Oh, he's right there." By the time Lamar pointed the direction Luna was already there.
Luna knew of Uriel's abnormal pain tolerance and knew that just having his hand broken wouldn't merit sedation, but after she slid the curtain she noticed he was sleeping. The medical bed, commonly called a cot, was meant for a single person and wasn't comfortable at all, but that didn't stop Luna from climbing up to him to snuggle.
Since Luna was passed out, she was the last one to see Uriel as the lingering smells of different people from the company told her. There was also other pieces of evidence, like a bowl with dried fruit instead Medusa left for Uriel. She knew fresh fruit would have been better, but they were floating in the middle the barrenlands and there weren't any grocery shops open or at all.
Miss Dragonfang made him a get well soon card drawn by her, it depicted something that wanted to be a bunny. It was a means to remind him of the first cryptid he killed and the one that allowed him to get his trait, however, it was so poorly drawn no one could have known its meaning.
Nika didn't left him anything, in fact, she didn't leave his side the entire time.
"You saved Jon Hunter, this isn't your fault." Nika whispered after climbing out of Uriel's shadow to which Luna replied by shaking her head. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"It is, I should have taken measures to restrain the patient."
"Like what exactly? I think only a dungeon would be able to restrain a holy rank hunter. I don't know what went down, all I know is that whatever happened here was enough to leave Uriel unconscious. That means any of us would have most likely ended up dead."
"He doesn't have his regeneration ability anymore. He's just..."
"A heavenly rank hunter with people who cares about him, a hand wont make a difference." It was Nika's turn to shake her head.
"You guys, stop talking like I'm a cripple," Uriel grumbled as he opened his eyes. "I just need to get my hands, well, my remaining hand into some serum and I'll be fine."
"Uhm... we don't have any serum." Luna hid her face on Uriel's neck, her cold nose felt ticklish.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go buy some." Prompted by Uriel's words, Nika and Luna exchanged a look Uriel couldn't understand but he somewhat guessed that if it was so easy they would have done it already. "Come on, tell me what's going on!"
"I will, but promise you won't be mad." Nika said taking some distance from Uriel.
"Fine, just spit it."
"That's what she said, Hah!" Nika's laughter annoyed Uriel to no end. "Hey! You said you wouldn't be mad!" She pouted.
"Uhm, we," Luna lingered for a couple seconds then corrected herself. "Lamar spent all our serum in treating Jon."
"Professor Lamar, is that true?" Uriel raised his voice so the man that was blatantly trying to exit the room to avoid any consequences could listen to him.
"One patient was on the verge of death, the other was just missing a hand. Medically, it was the right decision and I stand by it." Lamar replied with his professional tone of voice, but the cold sweat that trickled down his forehead was a sign he was afraid.
It wasn't just that Uriel was glaring at him with what could only be described as a murderous glare, but that both Nika and Luna shared it. Being stared by them made him feel like he was some sort of prey animal surrounded by a pack of apex predators.
"Luna, you coerced me to get involved in that jerk's treatment without so much as telling me what it was about. For doing things on your own without even consulting me, I'll mark a strike on your otherwise perfect record on this company." Uriel said making his best impression of a CEO.
"Please, no." Luna said in monotone. Anyone would think she didn't care, but her frowned lips were evidence to the contrary.
"As for you, Nika..."
