Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 611: Fight for your right Part 1
The moment detective Anvil gave the order to fire was also the first time he was taken by surprise in his life. Because of his physical appearance more fitting of a brawler than a scholar, most of his enemies underestimated his intellect and would make mistakes that made it easy for him to arrest them or take them down.
When the snipers appointed on all the surrounding buildings failed to fire a single shot he realized he was now in the other side of the scale. He underestimated his enemy, probably at the cost of the lives of all his rangers that now weren't even replying on the radio channel.
"One of them must have a long range trait," The detective clicked his tongue before issuing his next order. "Combatants, advance."
Prompted by his words, six teams of hunters with a mixture of physical enhancing boosts and short range traits jumped from behind the defensive line of shields. They brandished different weapons, all of intermediate level and made with hunter grade alloy that could pierce even through a heavenly rank's tough skin.
With this move, Anvil expected to take Uriel, Luna and Medusa out before they could cause more damage, unaware that the one who took out the snipers was actually Nika who used Uriel's countdown to take down all the rangers by blinking from one shadow to another. Most rangers possessed weak traits which is why they relied mostly on firearms to provide support, but that didn't mean they were weak.
Their bodies experienced the same mutations any hunter of their respective rank would, but they were no match for Nika's speed or field experience and she was able to knock them out with time to spare.
"What now?" Medusa asked when she heard the quaking sound of the enemies footsteps.
"This is as far as my plan got. We'll have to play it by ear." Uriel shrugged.
"Good." Luna growled in a deep voice as her body shifted into that of a beast. Her limbs stretched and her thorax grew wider bulging with muscles. Her snout prolonged as it transformed into a wolf's maw and her previously cold eyes now brimmed with predatory hunger which paralyzed the combatants that came near her.
Some enemies even fell in their butts as though they had been pushed by an invisible force, though it was only an effect from the dread overtaking their bodies.
Thinking Medusa to be the easier target due to her apparent disability, some combatants made their rush towards her, but they fell on the ground before taking notice of the fist that knocked them out which forced Anvil to retreat the rest of the combatants.
"The midget was supposed to be an ascended and the tall girl was supposed to be blind. Medics, any explanation?" Anvil asked as calm on the outside as he was furious on the inside.
"Shapeshifting traits are always a wild card, some become stronger than their rank while others become weaker but get new abilities and judging by how powerful that beast form looks she can't be responsible for taking out the snipers. The tall woman must have a spatial awareness trait that allows her to fight despite being blind.
That only leaves one possibility." The field medic detective pointed his finger at Uriel who for some reason bobbed his head in a strange manner, then stopped, then continued.
Needless to say, the field medic was completely wrong. It was a textbook example of logic thinking being completely wrong due to not having all the necessary data. They didn't know about hybrids like Luna nor did they know that senses could be enhanced beyond the heavenly rank level just with practice like Medusa.
"You didn't even help us!" Medusa pouted as she gathered her breath. Moving so fast took a toll on her body, but knocking another hunter in a single hit was difficult and she was forced to use her strength in short bursts that drained her stamina.
"I still can't decide what song to play." Uriel's body was outside, but his ethereal presence moved around his museum while flicking on the smartphone to find a proper sound track for the fight.
"Absurd." Luna bellowed in a fashion that only those who knew she could speak in her werewolf form could understand.
"Relax, Nika is taking them out from behind as we speak," Uriel shrugged with a relax attitude that soon shifted into a pale grimace when he noticed that Nika's statue appeared back in the museum. "Or maybe not. It seems she overdid it and ran out of flux."
"What!?" Medusa tilted her head in her usual gesture of confusion casually dodging a bullet that would have otherwise hit her in the forehead. The lead detective had just issued the 'fire at will' command and the gunshots muffled their conversation.
"Don't worry, I got this." Uriel cracked his knuckles and started walking towards Anvil as if there wasn't a defensive line of shields and many combatants in his path and bullets weren't raining upon them from all directions.
"Ja... guar." Luna heaved, steam coming out of her wolfish maw as she endured the many shots being fired at her. Due to her size she drew most of the enemy fire. Despite her brutish appearance, even in her werewolf form Luna's defense was still at the ascended level and could only remain on foot due to her regeneration ability.
"No, I can't be sure if he already completed his mission. Just give me an opening and I'll take care of the rest." Uriel exuded confidence because he knew that as soon as the jaguar returned the tides would change. Not only would it give them an edge in battle, but it would also mean that Ciara was back to safety and would use all her resources in the criminal underground to locate Sharp.
He didn't know how long would it take them to locate the former ranger, but he assumed that if no one knew of the presence of another holy rank in the city it could only be because Sharp kept the wild girl hidden in plain sight which played in his favor. Thanks to her ability to hide her presence she could mix in with people and that should make things easier.
But even if that failed, he knew that Ciara would at least send some hybrids as reinforcements.
"Last chance, surrender or we'll be forced to use deadly force." Anvil said after lifting his hand to stop the barrage of bullets, yet Uriel didn't so much as acknowledge him and knelt as though he was about to tie his shoes.
Before detective Anvil could issue his next command a hulking mass of fur and muscle broke through the engineer line of defense, allowing Medusa to infiltrate behind and deliver blows to the unsuspecting enemies that thought themselves to be safe.
Blue sparks burst from around Uriel as he activated his dash skill, but he didn't take a step forward and instead dug his heels on the ground to gain more leverage. Only when Medusa retreated back and he had a clear line of sight towards anvil did Uriel make his move. freēwēbnovel.com
He darted forward passing by the bruised Medusa and the whimpering Luna who were now victims of enemy fire from all directions. 'They'll be fine.' He reassured himself and focused all his attention towards his enemy while he made his way on the carpet of unconscious people left on the ground by Medusa.
Anvil seemed to move in slow motion, but Uriel noticed how he braced himself for impact right before he bashed at him.
"A speed boost trait." Anvil muttered while raising his brows in shock.
"What the heck!?" Uriel too was shocked because the hulking man managed to block his attack with ease. Only then did he notice the glistening coat that surrounded him and the faint trace of many different energy signatures coming out from Anvil.
To make matters worse, before could make sense of the situation a pink mist burst out at his feet. Thanks to keeping Dash active Uriel could see the strange cloud moving in slow motion, but there was nothing he could do to prevent the gas from reaching him and instead reacted by holding his breath and continuing his onslaught.
Unfortunately to Uriel, his opponent seemed to be able to read his mind and performed the blocking motion anticipating Uriel's strikes. 'If speed doesn't cut it...' Uriel inwardly thought as he mustered all his strength on his right hand. In response, Anvil crossed his arms to protect his solar plexus which was precisely what Uriel counted on.
Before landing his fist, Uriel opened his palm and summoned the Red thread of fate piercing through both arms like they were nothing but twigs and Uriel saw the pained grimace slowly forming on the detective's face with satisfaction.
"You can summon weapons too!?" Anvil gasped. What Uriel mistook for pain was actually the detective's shock after finding out someone with two skills completely unrelated to each other. A hunter with two traits was something unheard of, but he couldn't deny what he just witnessed. "All units, provide support at a distance. Kill the rest, I'm taking this one alive."
