Empire Building With Infinite Warehouse-Chapter 77: Sword of The Fallen Knight
Julien looked up just in time to see a massive block of concrete flying straight at his head.
The monster had ripped it right out of the building.
Julien did not panic.
He just relied on his new spider instincts.
He jumped backwards off the edge of the roof and shot thick ropes of white web from his wrists.
The sticky threads caught the heavy block mid-air as the sudden weight pulled hard on his shoulders, but Julien spun his body and used his falling momentum to throw the chunk of building right back.
It hit the beast right in the face.
But the monster barely blinked.
It just shook its heavy head and kept coming.
So Julien decided to retreat.
He dropped all the way down the glass wall and hit the broken street.
He scrambled over the ruined roads to where Chris and Alice were hiding behind a flipped car.
Julien was panting hard.
His legs clicked against the road as he tried to catch his breath.
"This is really bad," Chris said.
His voice was rough and weak.
He was leaning heavily against the twisted metal of the car.
"We cannot defeat all three of them. Those monsters have us completely tapped out."
Julien knew Chris was right.
He reached out with his mind and tried to pull up his inventory window.
He just wanted to grab a few basic mana potions.
If Chris could get his energy back, they might have a chance.
But nothing happened.
The system block was still active.
He was locked in a boss fight, and his pockets were empty.
Julien had never tested this rule before.
He had always relied on his endless supply of crafted items to get them out of trouble.
Now he was just a giant bug with empty hands, and it was a terrifying feeling.
He felt totally vulnerable.
Things were falling apart all over the district.
Julien peeked over the car and saw the chaos.
Down the street, Kyle and two other hunters were trying their best to distract one of the other beasts.
They were running between ruined shops and shouting to keep its attention on them.
They stayed spread out in different positions so the monster could not pin them down or trap them in a corner.
It was smart, but also dangerous.
But the lower-level hunters were not doing so well.
They were just running blind in total panic.
They had no plan and no coordination.
Julien watched a group of them trip over piles of rubble in the middle of the street.
The third monster did not even look down at them.
It just stepped forward and crushed them flat under its massive feet.
A few of them died instantly without even making a sound.
The difference in power was just too big.
Then the situation got even worse.
The beast standing right in front of Julien started to twitch.
Huge chunks of its thick grey skin peeled back and fell to the road with disgusting sounds.
Two massive arms started tearing their way out of the monster’s sides.
The new limbs were fully formed and covered in long, sharp claws as the monster was adapting to fight them better.
’Fuck,’ Julien thought to himself.
He checked the system timer floating in the corner of his vision.
Three minutes left until the timer ran out.
What happens when it hits zero? Julien had no idea.
Chris could probably activate his limit breaker skill one more time, but then what?
His body would completely shut down after that.
His mind was racing as the three of them started running away from the mutating monster.
A few seconds later, the beast had stopped moving.
It stood perfectly still and stared right at the three of them running down the road.
Then it crouched down low as its heavy new legs dug deep into the cracked road, breaking the ground into dust.
The monster leapt.
Julien looked up and saw the sky disappear.
The shadow covering them was way too dark and moving way too fast.
He did not have time to think or plan.
He just shot out two strings of web and stuck them right to Chris and Alice’s bodies, planting his legs back and throwing his friends as far forward as he possibly could.
A split second later, the monster slammed into the ground.
The impact was deafening.
It hit the exact spot where Julien had just been standing.
Julien had tried to dive away, but he was not fast enough.
He missed getting completely crushed by a hair, but a heavy chunk of the monster’s foot smashed right into his hand.
Julien rolled across the road and clutched his arm.
Blood was pouring out of his crushed hand.
It hurt more than anything he had ever felt.
His passive skills kicked in right away, and the wound started knitting itself back together, but the healing was way too slow.
He was limping badly and could barely stand up.
Chris pushed himself up from the ground and raised his heavy sword again.
It started to glow with a weak blue light.
But Alice saw how bad things really were.
Julien was hurt, and Chris was shaking on his feet.
She looked at the dead hunters scattered all over the street and activated the ring on her finger.
Her pale eyes turned bright green.
All around them, the dead bodies started to twitch.
Hunters with missing limbs and broken bones slowly pushed themselves up off the pavement.
They did not have weapons, and their armour was ruined. But they formed a tight group and marched straight toward the giant monster.
They moved together like an army of ants protecting their nest.
The monster swung its new claws and smashed a dozen of them aside.
But the undead hunters just kept crawling back and grabbing onto its legs as they climbed over each other to weigh the beast down.
They were buying precious time.
Alice dropped to her knees.
Blood started dripping from her nose from controlling too many undead. The spell was taking a massive toll on her body, but she refused to stop the magic.
While the monster was distracted by the dead, something changed with Chris.
The blue light on Chris’s sword flickered and died completely.
Then a golden light burst from the blade.
Chris blinked in surprise.
"Wha?"
A new message flashed right in front of his eyes.
[Ruined Sword of the Fallen Knight.]
[The knight, on his last legs, used a single slash to defeat a horde of monsters. He died wielding this weapon, but he protected his home. One true slash will cause fatal damage to the hands.]
The golden glow grew brighter and brighter, lighting up the dark street.
Chris understood exactly what the system was telling him.
He only had one shot at this.
There is no time to wait for backup or a better plan.
The other two monsters were still destroying the district, and this one was ready to kill them.
He looked at Julien limping on the road and saw Alice bleeding on the ground.
It was up to him right now.
He had to end this.
Chris clutched the heavy hilt with both hands.
He let the warm golden mana flow completely through his tired body.
It felt like standing in front of a warm fire.
It chased away the deep exhaustion in his muscles and gave him a final burst of energy.
As the light washed over him, solid pieces of armour started attaching themselves to his body.
They clamped onto his arms and chest out of thin air.
It was a full set of medieval knight armour, shining brightly in the ruined city.
A heavy helmet formed over his head and locked into place, completely covering his face.
He raised the sword high into the air as the golden blade started to stretch and grow.
Julien sat on the ground and just stared at him in awe.
He had bought that sword.
But it was changing and evolving all on its own.
Every weapon he pulled from his inventory seemed to outdo itself when it mattered most.
The golden sword kept growing until it was just as huge as the monster standing before them.
It looked like a massive pillar of solid light.
Chris let out a long, heavy breath.
He planted his feet on the broken road and brought the massive blade down.
