Chapter 252: Capture him

Hearing that, Marcus looked around to ensure that no one was eavesdropping on them.

His gaze deepened, ’’And it is?" he asked her.

"His Uncle. Duke Maverick,’’ Luciana whispered, ’’From what we know, that man is truly his uncle from his mother’s side. And there are very few things Prince Aleister cares about but Duke Maverick is one of them. We have seen him losing his life just to save his Uncle before.’’

Marcus could not agree more, ’’How did I not think about it?"

’’Duke Maverick is still in the mortal world, possibly in the Daven’s Castle which has been in a dilapidated state for so long. We can capture him and if a time comes where we feel like Prince Aleister is a threat to us, we can use him against the man.’’

’’No. there is no need to wait for the time. Once I get my hands on that man, I would use him to trap this Prince. I do not want to take risks. This man is unpredictable,’’ Getting his hands on Esme was hard so he could only rely on his daughter for this to get that Duke.

Marcus has always been a paranoid and greedy man. Since he has offended Aleister in the past, just his existence was like a sword hanging above his head which might drop on his head anytime.

He did not care about Esme, that weak and gullible girl but Aleister was different.

Luciana’s fingers curled involuntarily, ’’I understand,’’ she whispered.

’’Set out for Visteria tonight,’’ Marcus commanded her in a low voice, ’’I will tell everyone that you are in closed-door cultivation in the manor. The horse will be ready before dinner time near the back of the castle.’’

Luciana nodded again.

’’I might not be able to meet you there but be careful,’’ Marcus said to her, ’’Once you are back, I will let you go inside your mother’s room. You can look through all her belongings.’’

Luciana’s eyes teared up at the mention of her mother, ’’I am grateful, Father.’’

Marcus let out a soft sigh when he saw her obedient face, ’’If you were always this good, I would never have raised my hand on you,’’ he patted her shoulder, ’’When you were young, you were fond of all the shiny things, from gold to gems to beautiful pearls. Your mother got a treasure chest filled with them and she handpicked all those things to sew you a beautiful wedding dress. It was marvelous.’’

A lone teardrop rolled down Luciana’s eyes, ’’I did not know.’’

’’We never talked about her before,’’ Marcus said, ’’Do what you are told, daughter and you will get anything you lay your hands on,’’ With that said, he turned around and left, leaving her standing there alone.

Luciana glanced at his retreating back before she wiped her tears and turned around.

Her eyes widened when she saw Cardan standing near a pillar. She masked her expression in the next moment, ’’When did you come?" How much did he hear?

"Just when you beautifully widened your eyes,’’ the man said casually.

Luciana heaved a sigh of relief in her head before she rolled her eyes, ’’You have a way with words.’’

’’So, do you think I can use them to trap you?" Cardan tilted his head smugly.

Luciana’s lips twitched. What was she thinking at that time? Was she blinded by the wounds?

To think that she was admiring this cocky man.

’’How do you feel now, Lucy?" The teasing intent in Cardan’s eyes was long gone.

Luciana looked at his face and for a moment, she was spellbound. She blinked, ’’I... I am good...’’

’’Did you have something to say to me?" Cardan asked her softly.

Luciana tilted her head, ’’How did you know?"

’’You were looking at me with pleading eyes when I left you alone in the room with your friend.’’

Luciana felt her face heating up. Was she that obvious?

She awkwardly tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ear as she whispered, ’’I just wanted to tell you not to mind my actions earlier. I should not have acted like that when you do not belong to me...’’ she paused, realizing how wrong it sounded, ’’I do not mean it like that. I mean I...’’

’’I very much belong you, Lucy,’’ Cardan interrupted her with an amusing smile on his face, ’’If that is bothering you then let me tell you that I have never belonged to anyone else before you,’’ he grabbed her hand and placed it right where his heart was, ’’This... belongs to you.’’

Luciana’s eyes widened again, her breathing ragged as she avoided his gaze.

’’Since the first day I talked to you, I never ever thought about any other woman because you possessed my mind—’’

’’I...’’ Luciana snatched her hand back as if it was scalded, ’’I feel weak and sleepy. I will talk to you later...’’

She was afraid that she would be stained red from head to toe if she stood there with that man for another moment.

His sweet nothings, his searing gaze, his playful smile, his warm touch... everything about him was doing something to her and she was afraid it would show up if she kept standing there.

As Luciana rushed away, she heard his deep laughter reverberating behind her but she did not stop. Not even when the maids watched her like she was a finless fish. After all, they had never seen her this flustered before. She must be looking silly.

Luciana wanted to bury herself in a hole.

Once she was out of his sight, Cardan’s laughter died down. The playful smile was wiped off his face.

He snapped his fingers and two shadow guards immediately revealed themselves in front of him in the quiet side of the hallway.

"Capture Marcus Norwell after the sun sets tomorrow,’’ Cardan twirled his index finger around his wrist, ’’And take him to the dungeon in Dark Castle.’’
