Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 266: Back to being enemies
Esme’s lips tugged up, ’’Aleister Daven.’’
Luciana gulped, ’’W-Why is Leo so tiny?"
"Because he killed a witch by himself. From what I doubt, I feel like his powers were not enough to control her and as a repercussion, he somehow ended up sucking the witch’s age which turned him younger miraculously,’’ Part of it was her conjecture but she had read many books about the witches and gods in the recent days so she knew those creatures more in the recent days than she did in the past.
Luciana’s lips parted, ’’W-W-Were we always good friends?"
’’You want the truth?"
Luciana nodded like a frightened bunny.
Esme’s lips curled up in a hint of a smile as she leaned closer to the woman and whispered in her ear, ’’We have been a bitch to each other.’’
Luciana felt like both her ears were about to be discarded from her body. This prim and proper princess uttered a word like that?
In the past, Esme was that blatant only towards her.
’’And... and...’’ Luciana hesitated for a moment as she asked her last questions, still wanting to find a lie in her words. How could she remember everything and be fine? ’’What are the things I wanted from Visteria other than the gems? Why did I want them?"
She could not believe any of it was real. Esme would fail to answer this. She convinced herself.
Yet—
’’It was not any gem that you wanted. You wanted my man and Leo for yourself,’’ Esme said nonchalantly, ’’You wanted them because you found them beautiful and according to you, every beautiful thing should belong to you. You wanted them like your possessions.’’
’Rumble’
Luciana could feel herself being thunderstruck as she sat there quietly like a drenched rabbit with flopped ears and wide eyes.
But Esme tucked her hair behind her ear as she continued speaking, ’’I am not holding it against you anymore now that you have set your sights on his brother,’’ she lowered her voice in a conspiratorial tone again, ’’And you look at him differently, not like he could be your possession.’’
Despite her shock, Luciana found herself asking curiously, ’’How do I look at Cardan?"
’’Like you would belong to him if he asked,’’ Esme winked.
Luciana’s face flushed. That is not what they should be talking about.
She suddenly felt awkward.
Esme regained her memories. Then she must know how big of preteens she had been putting in front of her.
And if she was still sitting here, talking to her, it must be because she was pitying her for what her father did or just because she did not want to owe her anything.
Luciana disguised her complicated emotions behind a haughty expression as she waved her hand, ’’It is good that you regained your memories. It was getting hard to pretend to be your friend.’’
Esme raised her brow. When Luciana did not bother to look at her, she poked the woman’s arm, ’’Are we back to being enemies?"
’’Since you seem so reluctant, I will just do you this favor and remain as your friend,’’ Luciana said in disdain, ’’You poor little thing only have me after all.’’
’’Yes, Lucy is the kindest,’’ Esme pounced on the woman and hugged her tightly.
’’That I am,’’ Luciana pinched Esme’s hand. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
’’Ah, what was that for?"
’’For shocking me like that,’’ God knew her poor heart burst.
Esme cleared her throat.
’’When are you going to tell him about this?"
The ’him’ they were talking about was Aleister undoubtedly. ’’Not now,’’ Esme’s eyes darkened at the thought of it, ’’I cannot risk it now.’’
’’Why? What happened?"
’’Lucy, the person your father is targeting... it’s Al, isn’t it?"
Luciana pursed her lips and nodded, ’’He does not see you as a threat but he believes Aleister must be holding a grudge against him and he wants to strike first and take him down before anyone can threaten him.’’
’’You... Call him brother-in-law,’’ Esme glared.
Luciana smiled cheekily as she swayed her finger from left to right, ’’But you and I aren’t sisters.’’
Esme frowned, ’’You will marry Cardan.’’
’’Uh... No...’’ Luciana scrunched her face as if the thought was out of reach.
She knew something was growing between them lately. But it was dark and dangerous, filled with a rush and excitement. It was need and desire.
Not love. Not the one which ended with some beautiful wedding or children.
Luciana preferred it the way it was.
Putting names on feelings only made the feelings suffocating and short-lived.
It was better to not dwell on any of those constraints and live in the moment while it lasted.
’’And just the thought of his witch mother sucking my blood at night makes my blood run cold.’’
Both Luciana and Esme winced at the visual that crawled in their heads.
’’Then I take you as my little sister,’’ Esme glared at the unreasonable woman.
’’I am older.’’
’’You are slow and dumb.’’
’’You...!"
’’I will call you ’Little one’ from now on. So, you address Al as a brother-in-law. Good girl,’’ With a self-satisfied nod, Esme did not bother to care for the fuming woman’s expressions as she continued speaking.
Her tone lost its playfulness as she said, ’’As for your father, tell him that....’’
*Flashback ends*
’’I told her to tell Marcus Norwell that she can capture your uncle to use him against you but the truth is, it was a cover so that she can go to Visteria under the guise of it and look for Uncle who has already been abducted,’’ Esme whispered, ’’Nobody would doubt Marcus’ words when he said that his daughter is in cultivation.’’
’’No need to worry about Marcus. Cardan got him captured,’’ Aleister frowned. His Uncle had yet to recover from his state. He was sitting in the wheelchair but with Rowan around, he should be fine. Hopefully.
While Cardan took all the blame to his head, Aleister knew most of them were lies. Marilyn did not break the prison only once. She came to the mortal world every once in a while. She was the one responsible for his Uncle’s condition and the death of the eighteen virgin maids... virgin blood would do nothing for Cardan even if he had black magic coursing in his veins.
