Chapter 267: Friend

To shield his mother, Cardan lied that he slept with them and discarded them.

But if he did sleep with them, they would not have been found virgins. For someone as sly as his younger brother, he was bad at lying.

And Marilyn controlled Cardan’s mind most of the time when he was reluctant to obey her.

Cardan never confessed to Aleister about it but it was not hard for him to read along the lines of his lies. After Aleister learned more about the heavenly powers, it was easier for him to get past such deceptions.

’’I did not see him around,’’ Esme’s first impression of Cardan was that she wanted to kill him for his audacity but it looked like, there were misunderstandings involved. Moreover, she had seen him lurking around Luciana like a pesky fly so putting the past behind would not be bad if he truly was not the way he showed himself to be, ’’I think he flew after Lucy.’’

’’You trust her?" Aleister asked her.

Esme, who was about to place a kiss on his cheek froze, ’’No.’’

’’Is that why you sent her alone to save uncle?" Aleister raised a brow.

Esme cleared her throat, ’’I sent Leo to keep an eye on her. Leo is disguised as the white horse she is riding and she has no idea,’’ she had been intrigued by Leo’s butterfly form hence she asked him if he could do more of that, and then, it turned out like that.

Aleister chuckled, ’’You sent Leo to protect her, not to keep an eye on her.’’

’’No...’’

’’Sshhh...’’ Aleister cupped her face and placed a soft kiss on her lips, ’’I am happy that you found a friend. Now, do not deprive yourself of it.’’

Growing up, she had been alone. Aleister knew that Esme did not know what it was like to have a friend. While her brothers were there, they were Princes and they had their duties so Esme was mostly surrounded by her aunt and uncle until the said uncle backstabbed them.

Then, she had to grow up faster than her age just to survive, to blend in with the crowd.

He sighed, pulling her closer to him.

His heart ached for her.

If he could, he would replace every sadness from her past with the moments where she smiled, where she was irked or angry, or anything. Anything but sadness.

"What did that girl say to you last night?" Esme asked out of nowhere.

"Jealous?" Aleister snapped out of his daze as he grazed his finger on her waist, dragging it downwards.

She sighed under his touch. Her face heated up, ’’You smiled at her.’’

Aleister’s lips curved up in a beautiful arch as he squeezed her breast, making her gasp, ’’I called her Noree. She saw you following us and told me that her name is Rory and since she had served you when you moved to the castle, you must have caught onto her lie. ’My Lady might punish me’ were her last words before she left and you just saw that. I smiled because I realized everyone is intimidated by you.’’

’’Not intimidated. I do not get along well with anyone here,’’ her lips twitched. They were all good people but without her memories, she found it hard to trust anyone so she kept her distance from most of the people.

"My poor princess,’’ Aleister almost crushed her in his arms if not for the wince that slipped past her mouth.

Esme sighed, relaxing in his arms. To think that she was jealous because of a smile.

Now that she thought about it, she should have noticed that Aleister said the wrong name but jealousy was an ugly monster.

No wonder they said that love was blind.

Esme kept talking to Aleister about the most unnecessary things in the world. She asked questions like which flower he liked, and what color he preferred, and while he had never thought about such questions before, but he still answered her patiently.

Because he knew it was her way of trying to keep herself awake. She was still scared that this was all a dream.

And when it reached a point that she could not keep her eyes open, he kissed her forehead, ’’Sleep, Princess. I will be right here when you wake up.’’

She nestled into his arms, ’’Someone might discover us....’’ her eyes drooped, ’’But don’t leave...’’

The corner of his lips tugged up. He stroked her hair till she was sleeping with her lips slightly parted.

Her body was covered in marks that he had left on her.

’How beautiful’ he thought as he extricated himself from her and covered her in the sheets, determined to leave more marks when they were at it again.

Aleister grabbed a silk robe before he draped it around his body and tied the front.

He looked at the sleeping figure for another moment and then stepped out of his room. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

With a snap of his finger, two shadow-like figures appeared in front of him in a swift movement.

’’Go to Visteria. Keep an eye on Luciana and Cardan.’’

Both the men looked at each other in confusion, clearly not aware that their second Prince had run off to Visteria with a woman.

Aleister did not bother to explain, ’’Don’t meddle unless they need you,’’ he doubted things would go awry with Cardan there but with Luciana’s presence, half of his head would be buried in clouds.

And if he was not wrong, Luciana was powerful too but mers lost some of their strength when they were not in water.

As the shadow guards disappeared after receiving his commands, Aleister turned around to walk inside the room.

But his footsteps halted when he saw a man standing near the end of the hallway, in front of Esme’s room.

Jeremiah.

Aleister frowned. Esme had her own plans which he did not want to ruin.
