Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 268: He wrote to us
It would not be too polite for him to hang this man upside down, peel his skin, and burn the eyes he used to look at his girl.
He sighed.
Aleister’s gaze met with Rory, the maid from yesterday, who was standing with the other maids in front of Esme’s room.
He nodded at her.
And taking the cue, she bowed to Jeremiah, ’’My Lord, the Lady barely closed her eyes around dawn. She asked me to not let anyone interrupt her sleep.’’
Jeremiah still looked like he wanted to go inside and see her for himself but in the end, he sighed, ’’Let her sleep more.’’
Everyone was aware of Esme’s sleep troubles and hence, he seemed convinced.
Aleister glared at the man quietly for another moment before he stepped inside his room.
...
In Visteria.
Luciana stretched her shoulders by the time they reached the Daven Castle.
She did not know what this horse that her father sent was made up of because her body was pounding in pain but the white horse still looked like he could turn around and run back to Defire again.
But then, the horse sitting behind her was no different.
Throughout the way, Cardan was filled with enthusiasm as he sat behind her and pestered her for the truth about why she was there.
She did not answer him. She even stopped talking to him and he would find anything else once in a while to pester her.
’Why is that tree so tall?’
’Why is Enchantment Forest so deep?’
’Why is it called Enchantment Forest? Does it enchant people the same way you enchant me?’
When she threatened him that she would kick him off the horse and would never talk to him again if he did not close his mouth, he resorted to silence.
But his hands and mouth did not stay silent. They fondled and teased her here and there.
As much resolve as her tongue held, but Luciana’s body melted like wax when he touched her. She almost gave in but in the end, she persisted and slapped his hand away.
So, here they were.
She was drained and he looked like he had the meal of his life.
Luciana yawned as she stretched her shoulders yet again. She missed the days of beauty sleep.
’’Lucy?" Cardan pressed his chin on her shoulder.
Luciana stiffened. Since he did not say anything absurd, she kept her voice soft, ’’Mm?"
"Are you in pain?" he asked after a moment of hesitation.
Luciana knew that he was referring to her father’s beating. Even though those wounds were healed by Esme, the soreness in her body would take some time to go away. Or maybe it was the soreness from traveling for so long, "Just a little sore,’’ she whispered.
He let out a relieved sigh before speaking again, ’’Lucy?"
’’Mm?" Was he obsessed with her name?
She had been called Lucy before. Even Esme called her Lucy but when it slipped past Cardan’s mouth, it did something to her.
’’Shall I rub your shoulders to soothe the soreness?" his voice had a teasing intent this time.
Luciana’s lips twitched, ’’Be grateful that I am not strangling you.’’
’’You are into that?" he removed the strands of golden hair from her face as he pressed his face against hers, ’’My neck is all yours to strangle. You can strangle anything of mine, anywhere you want.’’
Luciana’s face started burning like it was on fire.
A kind guard approached them at this time, saving her from her disgraceful thoughts.
Luciana had a remarkable memory so when they came here the previous time, she remembered the face of every palace guard and she knew every corner of this castle.
This was an unfamiliar face.
’’We are Duke Maverick’s guests,’’ Luciana lied with a calm expression on her face.
Cardan jumped off the horse and helped her down.
As expected, the guard was new there because he did not recognize her as Luciana Norwell. He observed their clothes and bowed respectfully, ’’The Duke has not been around for a few months.’’
’’He wrote to us,’’ Luciana smiled, ’’He will be back in a few days so he asked us to wait for him here.’’
’’Can I see the letter?"
’’We forgot to bring it,’’ Luciana said.
’’Without any evidence of His Highness’ words, we can’t let you in, My Lady,’’ the guard was wary. The castle was not as tightly guarded as before.
The King and the Prince were gone. The Duke had not come back in months and even thieves broke in and took their treasures as loot.
So, he could not help but be wary about letting anyone inside.
’’We forgot to bring it...’’ Cardan stepped forward and looked at the man, ’’But you saw it,’’ his voice had a magnetic charm to it.
The guard seemed to be dazed for some time before he nodded, ’’I saw it.’’
’’I told you that you did,’’ Cardan smiled as the guard led them inside the castle respectfully.
Luciana elbowed the man, ’’You are scary.’’
He lowered his head and pressed a kiss on the crown of her hair, ’’Not for you.’’
’’Who knows?" Even though she said that she could not help but peek at him.
But her attention did not stay on him for long when she stepped past the tall gates. Her footsteps gradually slowed down and her lips parted.
...
For the first time in a while, Esme slept so peacefully that she did not even realize if it was morning or night by the time, she opened her eyes.
Dark curtains forbid the light from streaming inside the room but through the gap between the curtains, she could see a few rays peeking in.
As she tried to move, she felt a heavy weight on her waist.
She turned to look at Aleister’s sleeping face.
He looked beautiful when he slept.
Unable to resist it, Esme leaned closer to him and planted a soft kiss on his chin.
