Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 324: So what if it is?
’’You must be wondering how we were aware of this,’’ Luciana looked at the man coldly, ’’That should be because you never saw Esme as a threat. She has powers, Uncle. You lowered her guard in front of her and she grasped every opportunity you offered. She has regained her memories a long time ago and we have been aware of what you are up to.’’
Jeremiah looked at Luciana in disbelief before he glanced at the woman whom he was holding tightly.
The very same woman he had always seen as weak and pathetic. How could she have any powers?
Luciana scoffed when she saw the disbelief on his face. She looked at Esme, ’’Es, you don’t have to do this anymore. The Duke is safe now... you...’’ she trailed off gradually.
’’Esme?" Luciana called out softly.
’’Tired..’’ Esme mumbled, rubbing her eyes.
’’Esme...’’ Luciana’s heart skipped a beat when she saw how nonchalant Esme seemed to be.
Initially, Luciana thought that Esme was looking like that for having to marry this man but why was there no change on her face even after seeing Duke Maverick safe?
’’What have you done to her?"
Luciana’s words caught everyone off guard.
’’She is tired,’’ Jeremiah snapped. He grabbed Esme’s hand and yanked her towards himself as he turned to leave.
But Adrian took a stride, quietly blocking his path.
Ruby shifted closer to him. She did not what that man would do if he was not stopped. From the way Adrian had been looking at Jeremiah, the latter must already be dead in his mind.
’’She is not...’’ Luciana approached Esme but not once did Esme look into her eyes, ’’What did you do to her?" her voice was filled with disbelief.
Never did Luciana think that Jeremiah would do something to harm Esme.
He wanted to use her so it would be foolishness if he did something to her before he achieved his goals.
And even if he tried something, Esme and Aleister would never let him succeed.
’’Where is your brother?" Luciana glanced at Cardan.
Cardan quirked a brow, ’’As much as you admire my mighty self, I would want you to know that I came here with you, Lucy. How would I know where my brother is?"
Luciana glared at him.
Jeremiah got impatient, ’’Stop blocking our path,’’ his voice had an edge to it as he looked at Adrian.
’’What if I don’t?" Adrian remained unmoved.
Jeremiah took a step towards the man, a menacing look passed his eyes as he lowered his voice, ’’Then you will regret it,’’ he said in a voice only they could hear.
Adrian did not even bat an eye at the unveiled threat in his words.
The sudden turn of events in the royal court shook Elder Hall as well.
He had also felt that something was amiss with Esme but he never thought that Jeremiah would be brave enough to harm her in any way right under the King’s nose.
And the wedding rituals of mers were far more complicated and intricate than the humans’ so it was only natural for the bride to be exhausted.
But it was not until Luciana pointed it out did he realized that Esme had barely spoken a word to them since the wedding started. Even when she came to take the King’s blessings, she repeated what Jeremiah asked her to.
The thought of it sent a chill creeping down his spine.
Elder Hall immediately walked up to the King’s throne and lowered his body to whisper in the King’s ear, ’’Your Majesty... this... what is happening?"
Rezeph placed his wine glass down, ’’Jeremiah Norwell, do you have anything to say?"
Jeremiah froze.
He slowly turned around to face the King, ’’Your Majesty, my niece is naive. She is not aware of how misleading her words can be.’’
Luciana scoffed. Her golden hair framed the side of her face as she eyed Jeremiah with a defiant gaze, ’’Esme is dazed. She is not responding to my words. She is not looking into my eyes. Uncle, I might be naive but I am not naive enough to believe that mers do not possess herbs with similar traits.’’
Luciana refused to believe that with Esme’s wits and Aleister’s power, Esme would end up under some spell.
So, the only possibility left was Jeremiah sneakily slipped in some potent herbs to make Esme act in this manner. And for that to happen without hiccups, he must have used someone close to Esme.
’’Who was your accomplice in this? One of her maids?" Esme did not have friends around here. Other than Luciana, Esme was not close to anyone. She did not interact with a lot of people in the castle.
But some maids waited on her and served her and it would not be that hard to control one of them.
Jeremiah’s face shifted when he heard Luciana’s words.
’’Is that true?" Rezeph questioned.
When Jeremiah remained quiet, Elder Hall spoke up, ’’As the heir apparent, you are brave enough to do something so audacious and not answer the King when he is questioning you...’’
’’So what if it is?" Jeremiah’s voice came out in a whisper and silence dawned inside the sea court.
An evil glint flashed across Jeremiah’s eyes, ’’So what if it is true?" he repeated viciously.
’’You...’’ Elder Hall was taken aback.
’’All that my dear niece accused me of might be true but what can it change, Your Majesty?" Jeremiah’s gaze landed on Rezeph, ’’I married Esmeray following all the sea rituals. We are tied to each other by the oaths of the sea. Unlike the shallow oath of humans, our oaths bind two people and their souls together in life and death. Even if I died, she would still be my wife. If she denied that, then she would follow me on the path of death.’’
As deceitful as the man was, every word that he uttered was nothing but the truth.
His provocative words enraged both Luciana and Adrian but the moment they stepped towards Jeremiah, they were held back by Cardan and Ruby.
Rezeph’s brows tugged together the more he heard Jeremiah’s words, ’’All of this was a part of your ambitions? What evil intentions do you have?" his voice dipped slightly.
