Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 325: Jeremiah’s coronation
Jeremiah smiled quietly, not saying a word.
When everyone thought that the man was not about to speak, his satirical gaze traced every inch of the monarch’s throne before he said, ’’I want to be the supreme one of Defire. The King.’’
’’And would you become the King if you marry my sister?" Adrian could barely restrain himself from rushing up to the man and strangle every bit of arrogance out of him. A pest like that had the audacity to touch his sister, ’’Why her?!"
Ruby’s grip on his arm remained firm. Her soothing voice flowing to his ears every once in a while, ’’Esme is still with him. Compose yourself.’’
Jeremiah laughed, ’’Adrian Reis? The true heir of the Nevesray. The other boy is an illegitimate child while Esme...’’ his gaze wandered back to Rezeph as he continued, ’’...is unrelated to the royal family of Nevesray.’’
Adrian remained unaffected by those words. Nothing that Jeremiah said to him was new. He had known these for a long time but that did not change the way he felt about Esme or Arlan. They were his own, be it by blood or not.
’’Why I would marry your sister, you ask?" Jeremiah looked above his shoulder and gazed at Adrian, ’’Because she might be unrelated to the royal family of Nevesray but she is the real heiress to the throne of Defire.’’
His words echoed in the halls of the sea court, sending waves of shock in everyone’s heart.
Elder Hall looked at Jeremiah in disbelief, unable to think how the man came to be aware of the secret that Esme herself was kept in the dark about.
While Cardan and Ruby remained unmoved, Adrian’s and Luciana’s shocked gazes moved to the King who was sitting on the throne quietly with a frown on his face.
Their gazes shifted then shifted Esme who was standing dazedly and then Rezeph.
Both the people held no resemblances to each other.
’’Brother-in-law, doesn’t that change things? Don’t you understand why I would want to marry your sister now?" Jeremiah ridiculed Adrian before shifting his eyes to Rezeph, ’’I believed you would be clueless about it but your face tells me that you knew about this, Your Majesty. You do not seem to be bewildered. No wonder you doted on my wife to that extent.’’
When Rezeph’s expression remained unchanged, Jeremiah yanked Esme even closer to himself, digging his fingers in her waist through the layers of clothes till her face scrunched up in pain. But no words came out of her mouth.
He applied some pressure and her breathing turned unsteady, her face turning pale.
Adrian’s fingers clenched into a fist.
’’What do you want?" Rezeph’s strained voice resounded in the court.
’’For now, Your Majesty, I desire some rest with your daughter. It is our wedding night,’’ Jeremiah smiled gently as ever, the corner of his eyes crinkling up, ’’And for the future, make preparations for my coronation. It is the right time for me to ascend the throne and become the King. Your daughter has been lonely all this while inside the castle. You are not getting young anymore. Before you breathe your last, you should spend some time with her while I handle all your burdens, father-in-law.’’
’’What makes you think you can do whatever you...’’
Luciana had just freed herself from Cardan and taken a step towards Jeremiah when a black flare encased him, forcing her back by a few steps as burns formed on her skin.
Just as she was about to fall, Cardan hugged her from the back and held her protectively in his arms.
Jeremiah glanced at Rezeph. The smile on his face did not budge by an inch, ’’Your Majesty, can you now rest assured that I am capable enough of being the supreme ruler of Defire?"
Elder Hall frowned, ’’You, as a measly heir apparent are trying to intimidate the King? And you don’t even feel ashamed of revealing the filthy dark magic that you practice.’’
Rezeph shot Elder Hall a look.
The old man begrudgingly shut his mouth, getting the clue in his eyes. The King might not want him to demean any clan or any powers in heaven but in Elder Hall’s eyes, people who practiced dark magic were always filthy backstabbers just like those witches.
If not for Marilyn, their god would never have fallen and been dethroned in that manner. How could he forget that grudge?
’’Filthy?’’ Jeremiah increased the intensity of the black flame around him, the paleness on Esme’s face became more evident due to the intense pain, ’’If my power is filth in your eyes, how would you address your doom?’’
’’You think you are capable of harming me?"
Rezeph’s question piqued Jeremiah’s interest, ’’Are you expecting Aleister to come here and save you? He won’t.’’
’’Your Majesty, it’s already a blessing for an idle weakling like you to claim that throne for decades. Don’t eat more than you can chew. Do you think a man like this is worthy of sitting on that throne and commanding the laws of Defire? If the laws of the sea did not exist, how long do you think would it have taken me to end your puny life?"
’’I knew you would treat Aleister as your backbone when the time came but he is sleeping peacefully. He cannot lend you a helping hand,’’ Jeremiah glanced at Cardan from above his shoulders whose arrival was not predicted by him, ’’Black magic is forbidden for mortals. People die when they try to learn the art. But those who have mastered it can feel the power in their veins. Don’t you see how pale your guest is? Does that not tell you how powerful I am?"
Everyone’s gaze wandered off to Cardan and just as Jeremiah had suggested, he looked like he was short of breath.
Luciana looked at the man, brows taut in worry as she reached her hand to hold him.
But Cardan smirked cheekily, evading her touch.
