Chapter 347: Like your mother

Horrifying screams thundered in the air the moment Luciana stepped inside the dungeon.

The Dark Castle was already an intimidating and cold place with all its gloominess but the dungeons looked more terrifying.

Because no matter how she looked, she could not see anything except for the darkness.

It was as if the place was empty with no living being in the vicinity but Luciana knew better than to believe that. The heart-wrenching screams in the air told her the things about the place that were not visible to the naked eyes.

She stood still, unable to take another step forward because of the darkness.

Suddenly the place was filled with the warm glow of fire as the guards grabbed two fire torches before setting fire on it using their powers.

And what surprised Luciana was the fact that even then, there was no one in sight. She could not see a single person nor could she figure out the source of those screams.

All that greeted her sight was the expansion of the dark walls.

Luciana followed the men and with every turn they took, the screams got louder and louder until she heard a familiar voice.

’’Ahhhhhh! No! Ahhhh...’’

As the guards’ footsteps came to a halt, Luciana stopped and watched the wall in front of her crumbling and disappearing in thin air.

The sight of her father being curled up on the floor, bruised and bloodied, and decapacitated, greeted her vision.

She staggered a few steps back, eyes welling up with tears.

She hated the man yet the pathetic and tortured sight of him made her feel strange. And the fact that she had agreed to this happening to him made her feel like the terrible person that she was.

As she stepped inside the shallow corner of the dungeon, her father looked up at her with his stray hair strands coiled like a rope as they clung to the dried blood on his face.

Marcus Norwell was no longer in his previous glory where he ruled over the minor court members with his chin held high. No longer was he the arrogant man that he once used to be.

Crawling on the ground, with his limbs dismembered, he just resembled some pathetic pest.

As he looked up at Luciana, there was fear in his eyes, ’’No...No...No... Don’t do it... Don’t...’’

Luciana’s finger curled into a fist, complicated emotions swirling in her heart. She hated the man. She still hated the man for all the abuse he put her through.

But the sight of him, tortured and terrified made her realize the denomination of an individual that she was. Because no other daughter in the world would probably do what she did to her father no matter how bad he was.

No other daughter in the world would be as ruthless as her.

’’No.. No... No...’’

’’It’s me,’’ Luciana’s voice made his chanting stop all of a sudden.

Marcus Norwell paused, eyes widening in an instant as he looked at her. And when the recognition dawned, his eyes sparkled hope lighting in those eyes which were startled a moment ago.

’’You... you... My good daughter, are you here to save me?’’ his hoarse voice seemed to have been filled with vigor all of a sudden as he crawled towards her, leaving a trail of blood on the ground as he did so, ’’Come here, come, let me take a look at you.’’

’’Don’t come closer,’’ Luciana took a step back from him. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"You... You must be disgusted, right?’’ Marcus smiled bitterly but then a hint of hope flickered in his eyes, ’’But don’t worry. Once you take me out of here, His Majesty will cure me. I feel like he can,’’ a sly look crossed his eyes.

’’His Majesty or your younger brother? Who have you placed your bets on?"

The man’s eyes widened as if he was not expecting Luciana to be aware of his intentions.

’’Everyone knows how you conspired with Jeremiah Norwell. He is in the dungeons and being tortured.’’

Marcus gasped, disbelief apparent in his eyes as he shook his head, ’’I don’t know. I don’t know what you are talking about. He.. I don’t know what he did. I have nothing to do with his actions. You take me out of here,’’ he shouted, maniacally, ’’You take me out!"

’’Take you out?" Luciana looked down at him calmly, ’’You think I can do that?"

’’It must be Aleister who held a grudge against me and reduced me to this,’’ Marcus looked down and after a moment, he met her gaze again, ’’You... You go seduce him. You sleep with him. If you do so, he might change his mind and let me out of this place.’’

Luciana’s lips parted, ’’You... want me to sleep... with him?" her voice shook towards the end of it as she glanced at the man in utter disbelief.

Marcus looked up, glowering at her with rage, ’’You can be his whore if it saves me from this situation. Back in the Daven Castle, he caught your attention, did he not? You can have him now. You can seduce him and sleep with him. Once I am out of here, I will... I will recover and then we can plan how to remove the obstacle, Esme. After her death, you can have him all to yourself. With his prestigious position, you are not suffering a loss, are you? You will be the future Queen of this place.’’

Luciana smiled mockingly, ’’You want me to be a whore?" With every word she uttered, the remnants of pity seemed to have dispersed.

She was reminded of every reason she had looked at Cardan calmly, unaffected by the fact that that man was torturing her father.

’’Why can’t you...’’

’’All along, I knew you were here,’’ Luciana cut him off, ’’And I can’t bring myself to bother about you.’’

His eyes widened in astonishment.

’’You know why?" Luciana shook her head, ’’It is what you deserve for every evil deed you perpetrated. For every sin that you have committed, this is your only repentance. Live your last days in peace. I’ll take my leave now!"

’’Bitch! You slut, I should have killed you the day you were born.’’

She turned to leave, unaffected by his rage.

’’You are whore just like your mother! You should have been killed just the way she was."

Luciana’s footsteps came to a halt.

She turned around to face the man, ’’What... did you say?" her voice was airy, barely above a whisper.

Marcus Norwell roared before breaking out in laughing fits. His maniacal laughter rumbled in the empty walls of the dungeon, colliding with the walls and creating horrendous echoes that can give goosebumps to anyone.

Yet, ironically, Luciana was the least bit intimidated by the man who once made her live in terror.

There were days when he would beat her to the extent that she would drag her bruised and bloodied body to the bed, shivering and curling up to sleep with the reminiscent memories of her mother.
