Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 18: He Was As Angry As If He Had Been Cuckolded
Chloe’s heart suddenly clenched.
In her effort to conceal the lie about crying, she had completely forgotten that Sienna was also allergic to pollen.
She had inadvertently exposed another piece of information about Sienna.
But in this moment, she had no room to maneuver, and could only nod firmly, "Yes, is Mr. Prescott also allergic?"
Silas’s gaze darkened, his voice hoarse: "No, but there’s someone like you who sneezes when they smell flowers."
Chloe pretended to be very concerned: "That’s easy to solve, I’ll recommend a spray to you later. After an allergy, just spray a few times."
"Alright, thank you."
Silas escorted Chloe back home and then went back with Julian Prescott.
He placed Sienna’s belongings on the table, his fingertips lightly caressing them as if he were touching Sienna’s cheek.
His voice trembled in sync with his fingertips.
"Sienna, will there be any news of you in here? Don’t disappoint your brother, okay?"
Each time he picked up an object, Silas seemed to recall a beautiful memory.
At the bottom layer of the box, he saw a blue diary.
He flipped through it; it was all professional course knowledge, with no clues.
Just as he was about to close it, the door to the study suddenly opened.
Julian had just finished his bath, his hair still wet, and he dashed in barefoot.
But halfway through, he slipped, fell, and ’splat’, his mouth hit the ground, and blood oozed from the corner of his mouth.
Silas quickly put the diary down and ran towards Julian.
But he accidentally bumped heavily against the table.
The books piled high on the table fell all over the floor.
A photo fell from a stack of books, landing in the most hidden corner under the desk.
——
Just as the morning shift started the next day, the on-duty doctor came to report.
"Dr. Nash, Old Master Prescott has woken up."
Hearing this news, Chloe immediately donned her lab coat, put on a mask, and hurried over.
She asked while walking: "What was the first thing he did when he woke up?"
"He seemed to call out a name, Sienna."
Upon hearing this, Chloe suddenly halted.
She clenched the fingers in her pocket unconsciously, then instructed: "Inform the patient’s family, let them know the old master has woken up."
Chloe briskly walked into Old Master Prescott’s ward.
She didn’t know whether Grandpa Prescott had recognized her or missed her.
No matter which possibility, it made her feel guilty.
When she was in her most difficult times, it was Grandpa Prescott who gave her a home, allowing her to grow up healthy.
Yet before she had a chance to repay his kindness, she disappeared, evading Silas.
Whether it was the current Chloe or the Sienna who perished on the battlefield, both were facts Grandpa Prescott could not accept.
Chloe gathered her thoughts and pushed open the ward door.
The young nurse was changing the medication and nodded upon seeing her entrance, saying, "Dr. Nash, the patient has awakened, should we continue this medication?"
She handed the prescription to Chloe, who glanced at it and said, "Continue for another day, starting tomorrow, I’ll switch to a new medication."
"Okay."
Chloe approached Old Master Prescott’s bedside, shining a small flashlight in his eyes.
"Sir, follow the light with your eyes."
Old Master Prescott obediently trailed the light with his gaze.
Chloe examined other physical responses before patiently saying, "You are recovering well. After some more days of rest, you’ll be back to how you were before. Congratulations on your rebirth."
Old Master Prescott kept his eyes fixed on her.
Those slightly muddled eyes glistened with tears.
He grasped Chloe’s wrist, his voice extremely hoarse.
"Sienna, why haven’t you come home for so long? Did Grandpa do something wrong that made you dislike me?"
Hearing these words, Chloe’s unwavering calm suddenly couldn’t hold.
She could be ruthless facing Silas, but when facing Grandpa Prescott.
Her feelings were very complex.
There’s sadness, there’s sorrow, but more than anything, guilt.
She pretended to turn and instruct the nurse to pour water, trying to hide her slightly stinging eyes.
Several seconds passed before she composed herself.
She looked at Old Master Prescott and said, "Sir, you might have mistaken me for someone else. I’m Chloe Nash."
She slowly took off her mask, revealing a face completely different from Sienna’s.
Upon seeing this face, Old Master Prescott was utterly disappointed.
Tears that had been held in his eyes now flowed down the corners.
He looked at Chloe, murmuring softly, "Why isn’t it Sienna? When I was in a coma, I clearly heard her speaking."
Chloe helped Old Master Prescott wipe his tears, softly comforting: "Sir, after your surgery, you will surely live a long life, and you will surely wait for the person you want to meet."
Waiting until Silas has completely forgotten her, she could return to see Grandpa.
Old Master Prescott shook his head in disappointment, slowly closing his eyes, speaking no more.
Seeing his state, Chloe felt very saddened.
After finishing her examination, she went to the stairwell alone.
She squatted on the ground, buried her face in her knees, letting the tears flow freely.
In her heart, she repeatedly said ’sorry’.
Her mind was filled with scenes from Grandpa’s funeral when she saw Grandpa Prescott.
She thought she would be sent to an orphanage by the neighborhood committee, believing she would never have a home again.
The arrival of Grandpa Prescott gave her hope.
He not only gave her a home but also let her enjoy the treatment the Prescott family’s children deserved.
If it weren’t for Grandpa Prescott, there wouldn’t be the Sienna of today.
After who knows how long, the door to the stairwell was suddenly pushed open.
Chloe suddenly raised her head to meet Silas’s deep gaze.
Silas’s eyes held a myriad of complex emotions, which Chloe couldn’t distinguish for a moment.
She didn’t know why he came here.
To smoke, or to find her.
Chloe steadied her frantic emotions, wiped away her tears, and said, "Mr. Prescott, are you looking for me?"
Silas kept his eyes fixed on her, his tone sounding quite indifferent: "Hmm, wanted to ask about my grandpa’s condition, didn’t expect to find Dr. Nash hiding here crying."
His words held many doubts.
But those doubts remained unspoken.
Chloe collected her emotions and slowly stood up from the ground.
After squatting for a long time, her legs felt a bit numb, and her head was slightly dizzy.
She staggered, about to fall towards the stairs.
Silas’s reflexes were quick; his long arm reached out, wrapping around her waist.
With a strong pull, she fell into his arms.
His piercing gaze fixed on Chloe.
As if trying to see deeper meanings through her expressions.
Feeling his warmth, Chloe’s spine slightly shivered and she quickly pushed him away.
"Thank you, I’m okay now."
Silas chuckled lightly, "Dr. Nash seems very afraid of physical contact with me, every time we touch, you get very nervous, as if I’m a devil."
Chloe calmed her emotions and said, "I have a husband, and shouldn’t be too close with other men, this is the best way I show my love for him."
Hearing her call ’husband’ repeatedly, Silas only felt his temple veins throb intensely.
As if someone had made him furious with a green hat.
