Chapter 135 -134: Can’t Afford to Raise a Dragon
Leaving You Guang Ji, we returned to the Knight Regiment’s campsite, which was no longer the simple tents in the cave, but rows of stone dormitories.
At this time, there weren’t many knights here, as most of them were still out carousing in You Guang Ji.
Even Russell’s four knight attendants had gone to You Guang Ji and hadn’t come back yet. They might not return tonight either.
“Sir.”
Eric alone remained at the campsite, keeping Kevin the Gold and Silver Wolfhound company.
“Didn’t you take a stroll through You Guang Ji?” Russell asked, and the Red-eyed Rat King, seeing Kevin, immediately dashed over to play with him.
“There’s not much to see, I’ve visited You Guang Ji many times.”
“Hmm, that’s true.”
Eric had previously been a knight under Baron Roman and due to his outstanding performance, he was hired by the baron to be Russell’s knight teacher. After Russell’s feudal appointment, he followed in Russell’s footsteps to Wuyao Snake Manor.
“Have you eaten, Sir? The camp has a cafeteria, I’ll go get you a meal,” Eric said.
“No need for that, I saw a tavern in You Guang Ji that offers delivery service. Have someone go to the Green Leaf Tavern and order a dinner.”
“Understood.”
The dinner from the Green Leaf Tavern, which cost a few silver coins, was much worse than expected. Although there was plenty of meat and vegetables, the flavor left much to be desired.
Fortunately, Russell had already spent a week on the snowfield, eating pancakes and meatballs, so he wasn’t picky. He and Eric wolfed down the meal. Kevin and the Red-eyed Rat King also got their own dinner and enjoyed it greasily.
“It’s certainly more comfortable to eat in a warm place,” Russell said very uncouthly, patting his belly.
When camping at Cold Spring Point, there was always the worry of a Snow Ghost’s sudden attack. Here, there wasn’t.
Eric murmured a response, “It’s far from Mrs. Moore’s cooking. The Green Leaf Tavern, it’s all about quantity.”
“You’ve come to appreciate Mrs. Moore’s cooking more too?”
“I’ve always thought so.”
Russell’s eyes lit up, “How does it compare to Mrs. Gramer of Fluorescent Castle?”
Eric replied in a muffled voice, “Mrs. Gramer’s cooking is better.”
“Why?”
“Mrs. Moore always makes some… bold food.”
“Don’t you think these bold attempts whet the appetite?” Russell tried to convince Eric that those dishes he had Mrs. Moore try out were truly delicious.
But without putting much thought into it, Eric frankly said, “I don’t like unusual foods. Food is already plentiful, why seek out more varieties? I could eat bread for a lifetime, and that would be fine.”
“All right, let’s call it a night then, Eric,” Russell said lazily, waving his hand. “Get some rest.”
The dormitories of the night’s campsite regained some liveliness.
Most of the knights did not spend the night outside but returned here to gamble in groups. Only a few knights were willing to spend money on an inn in You Guang Ji, snuggling up with women and sleeping soundly.
By the next day,
the Knight Regiment was about to set off—Baron Roman, big brother Roland, and several Lord Barons had just straggled back.
Russell could clearly sense from Baron Roman’s dark circles that the latter had had a exhausting night.
Even when issuing orders, Baron Roman yawned, “Kendall, have you gotten in touch with the clerk in You Guang Ji?”
“It’s been taken care of, Sir,” replied Territory Patrol Knight Captain Kendall in a deep voice. “The clerk will promptly issue a safety announcement for the Mountain River Trade Route, resume the Thunder Beast cart service, and increase our territory’s trade share.”
These duties should have been arranged by big brother Roland, but since he too had a tiring night, they were handed over to Kendall.
“Good, then we shall set off back home.” Baron Roman waved southward. “On this return journey, we’ll widen the range of the scouts’ surveillance. Let’s clear out another round of Snow Ghosts, and eliminate all the small groups of Snow Ghosts within a fifty-mile radius of the trade route!”
“Yes, Sir!” the knights responded in unison.

Boom, boom, boom!
Nearly three hundred knights, with their warhorses thumping the road beneath them, produced a dull vibration that startled countless birds and small animals along the way.
Passing through the ceramic cave, they soon reentered the vast snowfield.
The wind and snow howled.
Russell rolled up the cloak over his dark gold ceramic armor and, facing the oncoming chill wind, advanced with the Knight Regiment.
Clearing the Snow Ghosts within a fifty-league radius of the trade route required Lord Sally and Knight Commander Kendall to continuously fight on the front lines. They both had contracted flying fantasy beasts and, by performing the Beast Fusion Shadow, could fly through the sky.
Of course.
The main scouting force was Mr. Ross; as long as Bipedal Flying Dragons didn’t encounter a frightening existence like the Snow Giant, they were basically invincible on the snowfield.
Find the enemy, rally the troops, and launch a charge.
Russell had now perfectly adapted to combat on the snowfields, like a true knight, becoming one with the Knight Regiment.
Sometimes he would leverage the resonance of the legion to enhance his own combat power, and at other times resist the resonance of the legion to prevent becoming overly excited, effectively conserving energy — the battle resonance, a secret technique exclusive to knights, was indeed a double-edged sword.
Many new knights had a hard time with this.
Fortunately, Russell had a calm heart, and whenever he was about to get carried away, he always managed to pull himself back in time.
“Safety first, that’s what I always tell myself.” Shaking off the Green Ceramic Sword after ending the battle before him, Russell smiled faintly.
Looking up into the distance, several Phantom Beast Knights were surrounding a Snow Demon. The dazzling light of battle qi mixed with the explosive power of magic, creating a beautifully colourful awe-inspiring tableau that bloomed on the snowy landscape.
He could now ignore battles of that level.
Focus on his own fight.
With a snap, Knight Attendant Jack chopped up a Snow Ghost’s head, extracted an Ice Pellet Pearl from within, and tucked it into his pocket for safekeeping.
A gust of wind blew, and the already decaying chunks of the Snow Ghost’s body disappeared like smoke and clouds.
“Let’s go.” Mounting his horse, Russell led his small squad of knights to swiftly clean up the remnants of the battlefield and rejoin the main force.
…
Time on the snowfields was lengthy, and the cold climate could drive one mad.
But even the longest time comes to an end, and after a week, the team once again traversed the entire Mountain River Trade Route, eliminating all of the Snow Ghosts within a fifty-league radius.
Ensuring the Mountain River Trade Route would be safe from major disturbances of the Snow Ghosts for a significant period.
“Phew!”
“We’re back!”
“Haha, feels like I’ve come back to life!”
“The warm sunshine feels so good, every time I come home, it’s like returning to mother’s embrace!”
“Just that the loot’s a little less.”
“Being safe and sound is the greatest gain, everything else is external.” An older knight lamented.
Arriving at Red Bat Grotto signified the Knight Regiment’s triumphant return.
Russell also began to smile; during this week-long battle across the snowfields, he hadn’t felt very cheerful.
The reason was none other than the Little Dream Dragon’s absence.
The power of the two Ice Soul Pearls had caused it to sleep for a full eleven days, and if it didn’t wake up tonight, it would be twelve days.
“Hopefully, it’s a big nourishment boost, or else the loss for this week would be too great.” Russell thought with begrudging amusement, “But there are benefits, at least the Ice Pellet Pearls are saved, so I can slightly relieve the financial crisis in the territory.”
Four top-grade Ice Pellet Pearls and sixty-one ordinary Ice Pellet Pearls — that was Russell’s harvest this time.
But he still needed to take out a portion to reward his subordinates.
“There aren’t many Gold Coins left in the manor; I’ll have to find mother to borrow… no, to pull in some investment when passing by Fluorescent Castle.” Russell looked at the Ice Pellet Pearls in his hand; he still couldn’t bear to spend them.
These were all prepared as food for the Little Dream Dragon.
“Raising a dragon… the burden is too great!”
“If not for the lack of strength… I’d be living on the snowfield now, taking the Little Dream Dragon to absorb Ice Pellet Pearls and Ice Soul Pearls every day!”
