Evil dragon has a warm heart-Chapter 156 - 155 A Dance
Chapter 156: Chapter 155 A Dance
Chapter 156 -155 A Dance
The conversation with Julia was not going smoothly, perhaps even more stiff than Russell’s inexperienced dance moves.
This might be related to the fact that, across two lifetimes, Russell had hardly ever seriously dated anyone.
Back on Earth, Russell was nearly done paying off his mortgage, yet the issue of finding a partner was still unresolved; he even felt at one point that he might never get married in his lifetime. He never imagined that upon arriving at Dragon Sleep Continent, girls would be pursuing him.
“When you build your own little castle someday, will you invite me to see it?”
“I can.”
“So, we’ve got a deal then, okay?” Despite Russell’s blunt manner of speaking, the smile in Julia’s eyes did not diminish.
She had already inquired, and although Russell was just the second son of his family, he had a Mushroom Bird.
This was indeed an extraordinary magical creature; even in her family, with her father being a 2nd turn Phantom Beast Knight and a Lord of the Duchy, there was not even a Little Sprite. Russell not only had a Mushroom Bird, but also an as yet uncontracted Fantasy Beast.
His future development was bound to be anything but poor.
Moreover, Russell was handsome and smart, and the cigars he invented were widely acclaimed, even earning praise from her own father.
Indeed, his emotional intelligence might be a bit low, his speech too direct, perhaps even dull. But as far as Julia was concerned, Russell was at least gentle by nature, and even if married life with him were less than ideal, it couldn’t be too bad—he was absolutely the best marriage candidate.
“If there’s a chance…” Russell gave an ambiguous answer.
He understood the implications in Julia’s words, but he certainly did not want to make commitments just because of a meeting and a dance.
The future was too unpredictable.
Such a commitment would delay not only the other party but also himself.
Moreover, the feeling Julia gave him was similar to that from Malena, lacking that compelling attraction.
“Okay,” said Julia with a smile, not upset by Russell’s tactful rejection.
The two fell silent and then just swayed gently, gradually leaving the dance floor as the music ended.
Just as Russell thought it was over, Julia suddenly asked, “Are there a lot of Blackwaist Serpents at Wuyao Snake Manor?”
“Not really, most of the Blackwaist Serpents were relocated by my father.”
“I’m terrified of snakes, so that’s good.”
What does your fear of snakes have to do with whether my land has snakes or not? Russell really wanted to ask this question, but in the end, he simply responded with a smile: “Heh.”
During the intermission, everyone returned to their seats.
The men and women who had enjoyed the dance naturally sat together, chatting enthusiastically, ready for the next tune to strike up and take to the floor again.
Russell returned to his seat and sat down, with Julia following suit, sitting beside him and seemingly still not giving up.
He took the fruit juice a servant brought, sipped lightly, and asked, “Will you strive to become a Lord of the Duchy? Many second sons of earls and barons choose to pledge loyalty to the Grand Duke.”
“I don’t know.”
“Haven’t you ever considered this?”
“I usually don’t think that far ahead, and I’ve just come of age.”
“Okay.”
The conversation reached a somewhat awkward pause.
Russell glanced not far away, where his elder brother Roland was making a young lady burst into laughter, and Cousin Mel was every bit as charming, sharing a tender moment with a daughter of a Lord of the Duchy.
In fact, Russell himself wouldn’t have minded showing off his wit, making Julia tremble like a flower, and then enjoy a night of passion—priceless for just a moment.
Afterwards, he could just walk away and pat his bottom clean, with no responsibilities to speak of.
But he just couldn’t do it.
So he sat holding his juice, sipping now and then, awkwardly together with the silent Julia, not knowing what she was thinking.
Finally.
The music resumed, and it was time for another dance.
Julia glanced at the motionless Russell, a flicker of indecision in her eyes, but ultimately she smiled sweetly and said, “Lord Russell, shall we dance again?”
“Um, I’m not very skilled at dancing, better not.”
“Alright.” Julia stood up and left Russell’s side.
However, no sooner had Julia left than a new lady approached him, greeting him eagerly and directly, “Lord Russell, may I have the pleasure of this dance with you?”
Russell eyed her, offering a mental score of six out of ten.
Although slightly embarrassed, he steadfastly shook his head, “Sorry, I’ve had a bit too much juice, it’s not convenient for me to dance right now.”
“No problem.” The lady walked away gracefully, swaying her hips.
In the dance floor, couples had begun to dance, and just as Russell, who was planning to quietly watch others dance, was approached by another lady.
“Hi, Lord Russell.”
“Hi.”
“Would you dance with me, please?”
“Of course.” Russell rose gladly and silently awarded her an eight out of ten in his mind, putting her on par with Julia and Malena—not stunningly beautiful, but with a nice figure, temperament, and face.
As the dance ended, Russell quickly parted ways with her.
Although she was quite interested in him, she quickly let go of that fantasy after sensing Russell’s attitude, much more decisively than Julia had.
Before he could get his hands on more juice, Russell heard someone behind him say in a mocking tone, “Is Lord Russell still here? I thought you might’ve gone to the restroom after drinking so much juice, but it turns out you can still dance.”
It was the young lady whom Russell had earlier rejected under the pretext of having drunk too much juice.
Russell took a sip of his juice, hiding his embarrassment.
But he did not offer any explanation.
Seeing that Russell did not respond, the young lady found it awkward to say more and walked off once more, her high heels tapping on the floor.

After this interruption, Russell lost his interest in continuing to dance.
Regardless of whomever else came to invite him, he declined each one and just sat there, drinking three large glasses of juice, and then indeed went to the restroom.
When he returned from the restroom, the ball had already ended.
Roland was nowhere to be seen; clearly, he had slipped off to some room in the castle with a certain well-born lady.
The Saither couple was just leaving, followed by a pretty young girl—Russell’s cousin, who was the same age as him but a few months older.
“Cousin Mel, Cousin Saither Wei, are you heading off to rest?” Russell greeted.
“Yeah, you’re by yourself?” Saither Wei asked curiously, “I saw several ladies invite you to dance.”
“Just dancing.”
They were relatives, but didn’t know each other well, so without much conversation, his cousins took their leave and headed to the guest tower where they were staying.
Russell was about to turn around and head back to rest, too.
When he saw his cousin Mel suddenly appear out of nowhere: “Russell, what’s up with you? You’ve caught nothing all evening.”
“What about you?”
“I sent Clemmie away; her ‘aunt’ came.” Mel shrugged, then probed again, “Weren’t you getting along well with Julia? I saw you laughing and talking while you were dancing, but then you two suddenly parted ways?”
“I’m not thinking about marriage and children right now.”
“It was just a bit of fun, who told you to marry and have kids?” Mel said with a sigh, his forehead in his hand.
However, seeing the seriousness in Russell’s eyes, he didn’t say more, merely expressing a sentiment, “You’re such a pure-hearted good man, Russell, don’t worry, your cousin will definitely introduce you to a well-born lady that will make your heart flutter.”
