Evil dragon has a warm heart-Chapter 157 - 156 Friendzone Card
Chapter 157: Chapter 156: Friendzone Card
Chapter 157 -156: Friendzone Card
This night, Mr. Russell found sleep elusive as he lay alone.
Despite his disinterest in marrying and starting a family so soon, the hormones coursing through his body left him restless, especially after the excitement of the ball.
The Little Dream Dragon did not appear, nor did the Gloomy Dreamland descend upon him.
Mr. Russell dreamed all night of various bizarre and fantastic landscapes, feeling as though he’d been busy all night without rest. Only as dawn approached did he finally find some peace, no longer chasing all over, but with beauties in his arms instead.
Now it was Malena, now Julia, and at times… he even dreamed of that oddly temperamental lady of his own.
However, by the time he woke up, all had been forgotten.
Only that hazy and enchanting atmosphere lingered, leaving him savoring the feeling for a long time.
“Good morning, Mr. Russel. It’s another new day,” the maids of Bluebird Castle always greeted him with radiant smiles.
“Good morning,” Mr. Russell replied, feeling moved.
Without comparison, there’d be no hurt; he had always thought that, although the maids at his family’s estate were a mixed bunch, at least Head Maid Leona was quite pleasing to the eye.
Now, with a comparison, even Leona’s charm had dimmed.
“With such high-quality maids, I wonder how Cousin Mel copes… But he grew up among them, so he must be immune,” Mr. Russell’s musing was abruptly cut off by the entrance of Ram, his Personal Servant.
After changing, he went downstairs for a buffet breakfast.
As before, he focused on devouring magic-infused food, and after eating, he proceeded to the castle’s training ground to practice the “Radiant Swordsmanship Technique.”
With the enhancement of the Sword Butterfly Amber Bug, his comprehension of the Radiant Swordsmanship Skill deepened, but Mr. Russell’s goal went beyond that; he hoped that through millions of sword swings, he could break through the shackles of Battle Qi martial techniques and find the secret technique of swordsmanship.
It was said that some phenomenally talented Dragon Knights could wreak havoc with their swordsmanship.
It was their relentless assaults that had carved out one Volcanic Oasis after another for humanity, otherwise, relying solely on the power of Great Dragons, success would have been as fleeting as a morning dew.
By the time Mr. Russell wiped off his sweat and concluded his Knightly morning practice, the castle’s guests were fully dressed and ready to depart.
Of course.
The Roman Couple and Cooper Rolin Couple were planning to stay at Bluebird Castle for a couple more days, while Mr. Russell intended to remain for a month.
“Go change into another outfit and then come down to see off the guests,” Lady Meryl said, dabbing Mr. Russell’s forehead with a handkerchief, “Diligent training is commendable, but you should also take a break occasionally. You can’t be tensed up every day.”
“I understand, Mother.”
Mr. Russell quickly changed and went downstairs, joining his parents in bidding farewell to the many guests, while also receiving several new verbal cigar orders.
It was not until they were seeing off Lord Junos of the Duchy that Julia couldn’t resist approaching Mr. Russell.
“I’m going to head back now.”
“Have a safe journey, Julia.”
“I noticed you didn’t dance much last evening; perhaps, you really don’t enjoy attending balls,” Julia said as she bid him farewell, with her parents saying their goodbyes to Baron Romand and his wife. They glanced at Julia but didn’t come closer.
They let Julia speak to Mr. Russell privately.
“Indeed, I’m not very fond of balls, perhaps also because my social dancing is not up to par,” Mr. Russell softly admitted.
“So…” Julia took a deep breath, “my birthday is coming up soon. If, and I mean if, I were to have a ball at the small castle and invite you… Lord Russell, would you come?”
Mr. Russell looked into her hopeful eyes, seeing the abundance of wishful longing within them.
But he sighed softly within his heart.
Feeling that he might hurt the girl, he knew some things had to be said; he didn’t like to give people false hope.
“I’m sorry, Julia, I am currently engrossed in cultivating my Battle Qi. I’ve only unleashed my Battle Qi since my coming-of-age ceremony, and I’m already far behind others. Thank you for your kind thoughts, but I won’t be considering romantic relationships for a while.”
“Is that so?” Julia’s eyes quickly dimmed.
“You’re so beautiful; I’m sure you’ll have plenty of excellent suitors. Please don’t concern yourself with me, and I wish you happiness soon.”
“Alright then.” Julia’s smile was tinged with bitterness for a moment.
But soon she was beaming again, “Thank you for your honesty. You’re a good person, Lord Russell. May the Great Dragon always watch over you.”
“Uh, thanks…” Russell hadn’t expected that, despite being the one to reject someone, he would still receive a positive remark like that.
Julia waved her hand and got into the carriage with her parents.
Russell watched as the carriage drove off, and just as it was about to pass through the city gate, the curtain of the carriage window was lifted. Julia leaned out and waved to Russell.
Russell waved back.
“Aha, my cold-hearted little brother,” sister Rolin appeared behind Russell, having listened to the entire conversation between Julia and him, “How can you bear to hurt such a lovely lady!”
“I didn’t hurt anyone. To lead on and then abandon would be hurting,” Russell replied.
“No wonder she called you a good man.”
“At least I’m not a bad guy.”
“Then why don’t you fancy her? I think Julia is quite pretty, not far behind Marcus’s family’s Malena.” Rolin didn’t understand her brother’s tastes; he seemed hard to please.
Malena wasn’t even as pretty, yet Cooper Thistlegrass was extremely fond of her.
With an airy tone, Russell said, “At the very least… she should look better than me.”
Rolin rolled her eyes.
But upon taking a careful look at her increasingly handsome and mature brother, she had to admit, “That might be a bit difficult.”
…
After the guests had left, only the Baron Romand’s family remained at Bluebird Castle—Aunt Melinda’s family had been the first to leave in the morning.
“Your grandfather is stubborn, and your aunty has an even more steadfast temperament than him,” Lady Meryl sighed, “I wonder when they’ll be able to settle their differences. I think Saisiluo is a good man, and having a son and a daughter is lovely.”
Baron Romand and big brother Roland weren’t very concerned about their aunt’s family, so they didn’t join the conversation.
It was the same with the couple, Rolin and her husband.
Only Russell conversed with his mother, “Cousin Mel seems to treat auntie’s family quite well; maybe he can help resolve the issues between aunty and grandfather.”

“Mel is nice to everyone, but that doesn’t mean he’s willing to meddle in your aunt’s affairs,” Lady Meryl shook her head, dismissing any need for Russell’s reassurance, “Life at the countryside estate could be quite happy as well, as long as the couple is loving.”
At that moment, cousin Mel joined them, “Grandfather has woken from his nap and requested my uncle and aunt to visit him in the study for a chat.”
As the family entered the study, Count Merlin had already signaled the castle’s butler to serve tea to everyone.
“I was very happy with yesterday’s birthday celebration. It’s been nearly ten years since I last had such a lively birthday at Red Castle,” Count Merlin said with a smile, “I’m also pleased with your gifts, Roland’s notebook, Russell’s cigars, all were great.”
“Father, I’m glad you liked them,” Lady Meryl happily replied. She had been worried that the gift from Russel might not please Count Merlin.
After all, Russell didn’t have money to prepare any lavish gifts.
The reading glasses he had previously given his grandmother, Lady Ingrid, was a clever choice, and it was unexpected that he again managed to impress with his resourcefulness.
Count Merlin continued, “I invited you all here because, upon my return from Red Castle, I brought some gifts for the children. Roland, Rolin, Russell, Lola, and Cooper, everyone gets a gift!”
