Chapter 92: The Will

Although Sonic was a mental attack, it also affected physical things. Powerful vibrations passed as the Sonic hit again and again.

Very slowly but surely, the ice around his left palm began to melt, his skin and flesh already badly burnt.

Neil continued until both his mental energy and essence were exhausted, then he waited, that was something he had grown really good at.

After waiting for death for months.

His face was devoid of any color, he looked almost like a corpse, his body thinning very slowly.

Again and again, day after day, he used Aquamorph and Sonic to try to break more of the ice.

All the vibrations put very thin cracks in the ice around him but it was far from enough, even this ice was too powerful.

After many, many days, a small space had opened around the palm of his left hand, though his hand was completely unusable by now.

’There should be no beasts around...’

After his cores were refilled, Neil brought out one of the earthquake bombs from his inventory.

That was exactly what he had created the space for, and maybe it was why he even got these things.

Having thrown two away earlier, he was still left with four, two powerful and two weaker.

"Master..." Nemo could do nothing at this moment, the guardian was frozen away along with everyone else.

Even the elemental bow and the battlesuit only had basic survival functions.

So, in his injured form, Neil was on his own.

’Three... Two... One!’

BOOOOOOOOM!!

His palm exploded instantly along with the bomb as violent tremors ran all over the ice mountain covering him.

It shook violently, but didn’t break.

Again!!

BOOOOOOOOM!!

WHZZZZZZZ!!

Again it shook violently, cracks expanding but not breaking down, this ice was too tough and that Beast King even more dreadful.

This time, he used the stronger ones...

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

In the two back to back explosions, Neil’s left arm was almost entirely gone, his injuries worsening.

And the whole mountain shook even more violently, cracking and twisting.

[Sonic!]

[Sonic!]

[Sonic!]

Neil used mental attacks along with it, it was shocking that without any air he had managed to survive for so long.

The Stone Heart skill was great.

Cracks continued to spread all over the mountain, loud noises ringing out and finally, it began to break apart.

THUD THUD

Large pieces of ice began to fall, and within seconds, the entire mountain was in shambles.

Neil was buried under a big pile.

The Stone Heart deactivated as he inhaled a deep breath, his throat and lungs feeling as if they were burning.

His entire body was in terrible pain, a torture that had continued for months.

Since the skill was deactivated, his body started to work normally, though his heart still remained covered by that invisible layer.

Stopping all feelings, all the pain.

He pushed aside the ice pieces with his right hand, once again coming into the open after throwing away many of them.

Neil looked back at the other mountain, nothing inside could be seen but his domain, his subjects, Ileana, all of them were buried inside.

He swore in his heart to kill that bastard, no matter how much he had to suffer, he would make it pay for the pain they had all felt.

[Aquamorph Activated!]

[Aquamorph Activation Failed!]

’Sigh, there is no link around here, I have to move...’ While thinking he looked down at his feet, they were both gone and the wounds had dried up long ago.

He would have to drag his body and find a link immediately.

Neil pushed his body on top of an ice slab with a smooth surface, this would make movement easier.

His swords thankfully were not too far away, picking them up he gazed around.

Everything felt so void, he felt completely empty.

Using one sword, he pushed himself forward, sliding along the ice slab as he moved away from the rubble.

Moving like this was very difficult, but Neil persevered, like a dead body he sat over the slab with only his hand moving.

His eyes looked hollow.

Not even Phantom form worked for some reason.

He continued to move in random directions, trying to sense even a faint presence of any link.

Neil encountered a few beasts, either he killed them or froze them with Sonic, using bombs to scare them away that he had purchased before.

Using whatever bit of strength, essence, and ability he had left, Neil dragged his body.

His body already seemed like a lost cause, but before dying he wanted to find a link.

Moving in the icy land for hours, all strength had disappeared, his hand moving on pure will.

This was the worst condition Neil had ever been in.

Nemo sent drones in all directions, helping as much as she could, even telling him in advance about danger.

Moving closer to the hot side, Neil finally faintly sensed a link’s presence, it didn’t seem too far away. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Even his right hand seemed as if it was about to break, turning bluish from the cold.

As he moved to the hotter side, the ice slab under him quickly melted, and Neil’s body fell onto the magma covered ground.

He gasped for breath as he lay on the ground but he was not close enough, just a bit more...

His trembling hand pushed against the ground, pushing his body ahead, as he slowly repeated the movement.

Before long, he heard a faint trembling from under the ground and then a centipede burst out, its length over ten feet.

Neil had no strength to resist, even his right hand was no longer usable.

The disgusting centipede’s long body wriggled and wrapped around his torso, squeezing as faint cracks rang out.

Neil didn’t even have the strength to cough, then his body was dragged into the ground by the centipede and his vision went dark.

Unsure of whether he was close to the link or not, Neil just gave up, he tried at least...

[You have died!!]

Neil’s consciousness was submerged into darkness as the familiar messages popped before him, so had he succeeded?

[Analyzer Activated!]

[Would you like to Retry / Give up?]

It worked!! He had succeeded, but after his death the Stone Heart deactivated and all the emotions came flooding back.

Was it worth it to retry? What if the same tragedy happened all over again?

Wouldn’t it be better to not make Ileana go through all that pain again? To not face that big ice bastard?

But more than all those thoughts, he wanted to see her again and hoped he was sent back to the time when things hadn’t gone to shit.

’Retry’ he answered.

Neil felt as if time was moving back, all the unpleasant memories moving backwards quickly.

And soon, his consciousness returned to his body, his eyes were closed and a hot feeling surrounded him.

Near the mountain like silhouette in the Carceral Citadel, the thing that had always remained translucent.

Suddenly trembled, a ray of darkness shot out of it and headed towards the enormous bars.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

An explosion that shook everything suddenly sounded and the bars threw it back, only for the darkness to retort and strike harder.

The space trembled, land splitting as hundreds of links began to open all over the realm.

The darkness was forcefully pulled back after another failed attempt, it had been several decades since its last attempt.

Just now, there were changes in space and time which alerted it.
