Executioner's League-Chapter 89: The Location of Last Hope!
Chapter 89 - 89: The Location of Last Hope!
The next morning arrived
with a crisp wind blowing over the training grounds. Kyrin and Blaze were
already deep into their drills, sweat glistening on their brows as they pushed
their limits. Kyrin's resonance pulsed with heightened clarity—sharper, faster,
and more synchronized with his flux than ever before.
Rin entered the arena with
his usual cool demeanor. "Good morning," he said, his voice steady and
confident.
Kyrin, panting between
breaths, turned to him. "You in the mood for a quick spar?"
Rin raised an eyebrow,
then smirked. "Sure. Why not."
"I'll be the ref," Blaze
chimed in, stretching as he stepped back to give them space.
With a nod, both warriors
stepped into the arena. The moment Blaze gave the signal; Rin vanished from
sight.
Kyrin didn't flinch.
"Effective... unless it's a trick."
In one swift motion, Kyrin
drew his newly modified handgun and fired a bullet infused with flux. The round
zipped through the air, shimmering with a violet aura. Just before it struck, a
flicker of light revealed Rin reappearing—deflecting the bullet mid-air with a
sleek katana.
"How'd you track me?" Rin
asked, narrowing his eyes.
Kyrin grinned. "These
bullets aren't ordinary. They're coded to trace flux signatures. Yours emits a
very unique wavelength."
Rin gave a brief nod of
approval. "Interesting. But let's see how you handle this."
He shifted his stance, and
in a blur of movement, Rin surged forward with inhuman speed. His steps
distorted the air; each motion laced with precision. Kyrin's visor activated
instantly, highlighting Rin's position. He sidestepped just in time, rotating
on his heel and firing another shot directly at Rin's core.
"You can't dodge this,"
Kyrin said with certainty. "I've calculated your teleportation speed. There's
not enough time for you to react."
But to his shock, Rin
didn't evade.
Instead, Rin raised his
katana and, in one swift arc, sliced the incoming energy bullet cleanly in
half. The halves sizzled as they dissolved mid-air.
Kyrin's eyes widened.
"Th...There's no way. That shouldn't be possible."
"You're not the only one
who's evolved," Rin said calmly. "Let's end this properly."
Kyrin's gun retracted with
a mechanical shift and transformed into a saber hilt. A crystalline blade of
pure flux erupted from it, glowing with radiant energy.
"Let's see what you've
really got," Kyrin replied, lunging forward.
Rin charged at the same
time, blade in hand.
The two clashed mid-arena,
their weapons striking with a force that sent shockwaves rippling across the
ground. The sheer power of their blows caused a cliff-like structure behind
them to fracture and collapse, dust filling the air.
Both were knocked back,
sliding across the floor before steadying themselves on one knee. Their breaths
were heavy but controlled.
Rin stood first. "That's
enough for today."
Kyrin exhaled and gave a
nod. "Yeah. Agreed."
A slow clap echoed through
the arena.
From the upper walkway,
Shaeryn descended with a faint smile. "Impressive, Kyrin. You've come a long
way. Your mastery of hybrid combat and flux manipulation in such a short span
is... remarkable."
Kyrin straightened, pride
flickering across his face. "Thank you, Sir Shaeryn. It's an honor to receive
that from you."
"You've earned it,"
Shaeryn said. "Both of you. Now, go get cleaned up. I want you all in the
projector room in twenty minutes."
With that, Shaeryn turned
and left the arena.
Blaze walked over, rubbing
the back of his neck. "What do you think this is about?"
Rin sheathed his blade,
his gaze thoughtful. "Not sure. But if Sir Shaeryn's calling a meeting like
this... it's probably important."
"Definitely feels like
something big is coming," Kyrin added.
Without another word, the
three headed toward the dorms, the scent of ozone still lingering in the air
from their clash.
The battle may have ended,
but something heavier loomed ahead. Something none of them could yet see—but
all were preparing for.
The team gathered in the
projector room, the air thick with anticipation. The lights dimmed as a large
digital map flickered to life—an intricate schematic of Lumina Spire. Glowing
nodes marked the locations of various tech hubs, all under the control of
Celestial Mirage Co.
Shaeryn stood at the
center, his expression focused. "These," he began, pointing at the clusters of
light, "are every operational and abandoned tech hub in Lumina Spire. Most of
them were once part of our core network—before Segrito's forces took control."
He shifted the projection,
zooming in on a specific sector. "Our priority now is finding Aureva. She's the
last hope of stopping this project. If we can locate her, we have a chance at
ending Segrito's growing dominance and Jacob Bethelle's reign."
Rin stepped forward, eyes
narrowing on the map. "So, our objective is to track her location?"
Shaeryn nodded. "Yes. You
and Kyrin will be leading the effort. But there's a catch—we don't have a
direct link to her current whereabouts."
"We'll need something,"
Rin said. "A trans-communicator she used. Or at least a personal device with a
communication code."
Kyrin chimed in, his voice
calm but sharp. "Not necessarily. If we have any object that shares a flux
signature with her—something she powered or created—we might be able to
reverse-trace the energy pattern, provided she's using similar flux devices."
Shaeryn reached behind the
console and handed a small blade to Kyrin. "This belonged to her. It's powered
by her custom flux variant. Use it wisely."
Kyrin handed the blade to
Rin. "We'll use this to track the flux. If she has any active tech broadcasting
on that signature, we'll find it."
Rin took the blade and
connected it to his portable flux analyzer. "Then let's get to work."
Both Rin and Kyrin
activated their tech. The devices pulsed faintly with energy as they scanned
for matching frequencies across Lumina Spire. A soft hum filled the room as
data began streaming across the screens. Within minutes, the analysis was
complete—but the results were far from ideal.
Rin frowned. "It's showing
all the tech hub locations. Every single one of them is flagged with matching
flux traces."
Blaze, who had been
silently observing from the corner, stepped forward. "That's not good. Either
she's everywhere—or she's masking her location."
Kyrin stared at the
screen, deep in thought. "She's not a Vanguard anymore. She has a bounty on her
head. To survive, she's probably rerouted her communications through all the
abandoned tech hubs. She's using old network protocols, bouncing signals around
to avoid being traced."
Shaeryn exhaled, a mixture
of frustration and admiration in his tone. "Smart. Risky, but smart."
Blaze crossed his arms.
"That leaves us with only one real option."
Rin glanced at him.
"You're thinking we search every tech hub manually?"
Blaze nodded. "One by one.
It'll be time-consuming, but if she's hiding somewhere in the network, that's
the only way we'll flush her out."
Rin nodded. "Then we have
no time to waste."
Kyrin added, "Once we
narrow it down to a few possible hubs, I have a plan to isolate her exact
position."
Shaeryn turned to all
three. "This mission won't be easy. But if you succeed, it will be a turning
point in this war. Find her—before Segrito does."
Rin slid the blade into
his belt. "Understood. We'll bring her back."
The team left the
projector room without another word. A new operation had begun—one that would
test their resolve and lead them deeper into the shadows of Lumina Spire. What
lay ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear:
Aureva held the key to the
truth—and the fate of their world.
