Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 67: Promise Me
That night, Thorn found Giles with laughable ease.
The moment they perched themselves atop a nearby rooftop, staring down at the inner-city house devoid of guards, they knew something was wrong.
Thorn exhaled, rubbing his chin. "Well, this is interesting."
Ren crossed his arms, his eyes scanning every inch of the building. "No guards, no layers of security, no barriers. Either Giles has decided to embrace death early, or—"
"—this is the most obvious trap we’ve ever walked into?" Thorn finished. "Yeah, I was thinking the same thing."
Ren narrowed his eyes at the house, watching as a single candle flickered in one of the rooms.
No movement, no sounds beyond the regular murmur of the night. It was too quiet. Too intentional.
"Even an idiot would be able to pick up on the fact that our target is in the only room in the house with light coming from the windows." Thorn said.
"It’s as if they’re rolling out the red carpet for us, and that’s even more suspicious."
"Red carpet?" Thorn asked, a frown on his face.
"Oh. Rich nobles roll out red carpets to welcome esteemed guests. It’s like a sign of honor and prestige."

"But why a red carpet? Why not blue?"
And Ren didn’t have an answer to that.
There was silence for a few seconds before Ren turned back to the manor in front of them.
"If we go in now, we’ll be walking straight into whatever trap they’ve prepared." Ren murmured. "But that’s the purpose of this trap. They want us to act on impulse, to be reckless."
Thorn huffed, shifting his weight slightly. "Not much choice if we want to take out Giles. We’re running out of time."
Ren leaned against the cold stone of the rooftop. "We wait. We won’t attack today. We’ll strike on the night before we arrive at the capital."
Thorn raised an eyebrow. "Three days from now? You sure about that?"
Ren nodded. "It might work to put them off guard."
"Let’s see if they can wait that long. If they expect us to attack immediately, delaying will put them on edge. It also means they’ll have to be on their guard for longer. They’ll either get impatient or complacent. Either way, it gives us an opening."
Thorn smirked, shaking his head. "Alright, I can get behind that. Let them sweat it out."
They stayed a while longer, watching, memorizing.
Giles moved through the house at intervals, deliberately in sight of the windows, wanting to be seen. It was a game, and everyone knew it. But Ren wasn’t going to let them dictate the rules.
With their plan settled, they teleported back to their inn and, for the first time in days, settled in early and slept soundly.
The next morning, Ren found himself in the carriage with Lilith, her presence warm beside him as they traveled through the countryside.
It was a welcome change from the ruthless planning of the night before.
Lilith stretched her arms, letting out a soft yawn before turning to him with a small smile. "You seem well-rested today. More than me, at least."
Ren chuckled, rolling his shoulders. "A good night’s sleep will do that to a person."
He hadn’t slept through the whole night but if there’s one thing the border had taught him, it was how to function on little sleep.
Lilith leaned her head against his shoulder, the rhythmic sway of the carriage adding to the peaceful atmosphere. "You should sleep more often, then."
Ren hummed in response, but his mind was elsewhere. This peace, this temporary moment where they could just talk, just exist, was something he knew wouldn’t last much longer.
Soon, they’d be at the capital, where he had to not just win against the best Rank 3 Knights the kingdom had to offer but also bring an army back home.
Soon, the final battle against Fuchsia would begin.
He wanted to hold onto this, if only for a little while longer.
Lilith lifted her head, giving him a knowing look. "You’re thinking about something."
"A lot of things." He admitted. "But mostly about you."
She raised an eyebrow with a smile. "Oh?"
Ren smirked. "You said you had plans for us in the capital. Care to share?"
Lilith’s eyes lit up as she turned to face him fully. "Oh, I have many plans. You and I are going to visit all the best places. Tea houses, markets, even a few hidden spots I’d heard my sisters talking about that most nobles don’t know about."
Ren chuckled. "You’re planning a full itinerary, aren’t you?"
"Of course!" Lilith said, crossing her arms. "We only get to visit the capital once in a while. I refuse to let you waste the opportunity."
Ren smiled softly. "Sounds like a good time."
Lilith tilted her head, studying him. "You’re not just saying that, are you?"
"No." Ren said honestly. "I want to enjoy this. With you." Before everything... changes.
Lilith was quiet for a moment before she reached for his hand, intertwining her fingers with his. "Then we’ll make the most of it. No matter what happens after."
Ren squeezed her hand gently, letting himself enjoy this peace. For now, they were just two people on a journey together. That was how it should be.
Lilith’s grip on his hand tightened. "Promise me something, Ren."
He turned to her, noting the sudden seriousness in her eyes. "What is it?"
"When we get to the capital..." she hesitated before continuing, "don’t shut me out again. No matter what happens."
Ren’s expression softened. "Lilith—"
"Promise me." She pressed, her voice dropping to a whisper.
He exhaled, then nodded. "I promise."
A smile crept onto her lips, and she leaned back against him, content. "Good. Then I can relax."
Ren chuckled, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as she closed her eyes. He knew it wouldn’t be that simple.
The capital would test them both, in ways neither of them could predict.
But for now, he let himself enjoy this. Just this.
Three days left.
