Extra's Re-awakening: System Errors Made Me Too OP-Chapter 51: A Surprise Selection
"She requested to join on her own free will? Why would she do such a thing?" He asked, unable to find any logical reason why someone of royal blood, with such an immense level of Soul-Energy, would join ask to join the fourteenth Soul-Squad.
"She’s lived with her father who is the head captain of the 1st Soul-Squad so she knows what it’s like over there, my guess is, she’s not a fan of their toxicity." A soft, feminine voice called out from behind, its sweet and angelic tone echoing through every corner of the building.
"Huh?" Rai muttered under his breath as he turned around. His eyes met a dazzling beauty with light blue eyes, pale skin, and flowing white hair. Her name was Lucy Mikasa, and her striking appearance seemed to reflect the very essence of her presence.
"Welcome to the Fourteenth Soul-Squad, Rai Voltia." She spoke, holding a document clipped to a wooden board in her right hand, while her left hand held a black-collared neck cape with the number "14" printed on its back. "Sign here please."
"Hm?" Rai took the document and pen from her and dove right in. The paper looked like any other legal form, full of clauses and terms, but he didn’t care about the details. Without hesitating, he signed it.
After all, once the document was complete, he was officially a member of the Fourteenth Soul-Squad.
Elene and Kaira arrived much earlier than him, so they already signed their own clauses.
"With this, you are now officially part of the Fourteenth Soul-Squad." She smiled.
"Alright." Rai said, visibly excited. Now there was nothing stopping him from raiding dungeons and levelling Up.
"Now that we are done with the formalities..." Kazuki’s voice got deeper as he spoke. "If you ever interrupt my nap time like this two idiots, I’ll kill you." He said, imposing a stern warning to Rai.
"Y—Yes!" Rai responded, feeling intimidated by his new captain’s overwhelming presence. He felt like the captain of this Soul-Squad, for no reason whatsoever, would pummel him just for doing the right thing.
"Alright! Now we’re good to go! Yesterday was a free day so don’t you damn fools think about slacking off!" Kazuki shouted at the top of his voice, addressing his entire Squad.
"Yes sir!" All the squad members responded with a thunderous roar.
"Eyes on the ball! Just yesterday the head commander ordered that all squads train their squad members in preparation for what’s coming. In response to that, we finally got the B-rank dungeon we requested for, so let’s make the most of it! The more crystals we mine the more wine we’ll get!" Kazuki roared, raising his hand over his head.
"Wait wait, you spend all the money we make on alcohol?" Rai interrupted, causing multiple facepalms resounding throughout the building.
"You got a problem with that?" As Kazuki spoke, his voice deepened more than usual, carrying an intimidating weight. His cold gaze swept across the room, finally resting on Rai.
"No... Not at all captain." He responded quickly, finally understanding everyone’s reaction.
"I thought so." The Fourteenth captain said, returning his gaze back at the rest of his squad members.
"Alright, raiding squad! Support Soul-Hunter — Lisa!"
"Yes." She responded in calm manner.
"Combat Soul-Hunters, Ken!"
"Yes Captain!" Ken exclaimed.
"Aiden!"
"I really don’t want to, but if you insist captain." He replied.
"Elene!"
"Yes Captain!" She replied.
"And finally, our Hybrid Soul-Hunter for the raid, Lucy!" He exclaimed, turning to face her.
"As you wish captain." She replied with a bow.
"The rest of you make yourself useful!" He ordered with a forceful shout.
"Yes sir!" All the squad members responded immediately, rushing toward the request board. Each grabbed a bid for a lower-ranked dungeon and swiftly ran out of the squad hall.
"What’s happening, why the hurry?" Rai asked, confused. Everyone seemed to be in a hurry, which only made his curiosity grow.
"It’s the monthly squad rush, I guess you’re not used to this since it’s your first time joining a Soul-Squad." Ken replied.
"Squad rush?" Rai said even more confused.
"It’s a process on how the best Soul-Squads in the kingdom are ranked, based on the performance of the dungeon raid on each Soul-Squad monthly. Points are awarded based on the Soul-Squads achievements, at the end of the year those points are complied and added together. The Soul-Squads with the highest points after the compilation are ranked the top ten squads in the kingdom." Ren said, explaining the squad ranking system in the kingdom.
"I see.." Rai mumbled as he seemingly gained an understanding to how the ranking system worked. "What rank is the 14th Soul-Squad?" He asked.
"Huh? Hahahahaha!" Aiden laughed out. "We are the last in the rankings, whatever did you expect from the only commoner’s squad in the whole of the kingdom? We are literally the 14th Soul-Squad."
"Is there a reason you are laughing? Get ready for the raid!" Kazuki shouted.
"Alright alright captain." Aiden said. "Ever been in a raid before? Wanna tag along newbie?" He smirked as he spoke to Rai.
"Newbie?" Rai scoffed, with a tenacious smile drawn on his face. "I think you’ll find that this newbie is more experienced than you imagined, maybe even far more than you. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Huh? Don’t get ahead of yourself you unidentified bastard!" Aiden smiled and turned to face their captain, who was gearing up for the raid ahead.
"Captain! Can Rai join us on the raid?" He asked.
"Huh? I see why not, judging from his performance in the Soul-Hunter’s examination he’s more than capable than tagging along with us. After all he’s now a full fledged Soul-Hunter of the 14th Soul-Squad." Kazuki replied.
"Alright, let’s go." Rai exclaimed with excitement, clenching his fists tightly.
As Kazuki’s raiding team was about to set out, Kaira stepped in, standing in front of them with her arms crossed.
"Can I join your team on this raid?" She requested.
"Huh!?" Both Aiden and Ken exclaimed with disbelief.
"W—what?" Till now, they didn’t know why she requested to join the fourteenth Soul-Squad, but all assumed the same thing. That she’d go on solo raids considering she didn’t need help, but asking to join a team filled with commoners on a raid?
"Uh, I’m pretty sure you are definitely strong enough to complete a raid quest by yourself, why do you want to join us?" Ken asked.
"You’re a monster, no offense, but you’re just going to steal our glory." Aiden chimed in.
"So you don’t need to team up with anyone." Rai added.
"That’s right Kaira, I thought you’ll require time to settle in before you can proceed on a raid." Kazuki said, explaining his reasons for not selecting her as a part of the raiding squad.
Kaira scoffed, if there’s one thing she hated more than the rest, it was the daddy’s treatment she kept getting all her life just because she was the daughter of the head commander of the fourteen Soul-Squads.
She looked up to face the two boys who mocked her indirectly. "I’m sorry, it seems I wasn’t clear enough." Her expression darkened, and her eyes glinted with a hint of rage.
"I want to join your team on this raid." She asked again, her voice sounding more intimidating than before.
Both boys took a step back, a bit intimidated. ’Oh boy.’ Aiden said in his thoughts.
"Alright alright, you can join our team." Ken agreed at last.
"Now that wasn’t so hard was it?" Kaira said, her face returning to it’s usual nonchalant expression.
Now that they were all prepared, the seven Soul-Hunters — Ken, Lisa, Elene, Rai, Aiden, Kaira and Kazuki left the squad hall after equipping their necessary equipment and traveled straight towards the location of the B-rank dungeon.
