Extra's Re-awakening: System Errors Made Me Too OP-Chapter 52: Unforseen Circumstances
The B-rank dungeon they managed to secure wasn’t too far from their squad’s building. It was just around the corner of the Starling district, in a small village that sat quietly on the outskirts.
They finally reached the village, but something immediately felt wrong. Outside, the weather was bright and hot, yet inside the village, it was strangely cold and dim. A thin fog hung over everything, blanketing the streets in a ghostly haze. It wasn’t thick enough to block their view, but trying to see too far ahead was useless, the mist swallowed everything in the distance.
"Damn... What’s with all this fog?" Ken waved his hand in front of his face, as if trying to clear away the fog that refused to fade.
Kazuki pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out, lit it with his lighter, and exhaled a slow puff of smoke into the air. "This is the location of the B-rank dungeon, the Mysthaven village."
"Damn... I guess there’s a reason why it’s called the Mysthaven huh?"
Kazuki’s brows twitched, and he turned sharply to look at one of his squad members. "Are you trying to mock the people that gave us this dungeon? Don’t forget their money buys my wine!"
"N—not at all captain..."
"About that captain." Aiden chimed in. "Are you sure it’s alright to be smoking on the job?"
Kazuki removed the cigarette from his mouth and let out a low chuckle before turning to face his squad, his eyes sharp and cold. "So you all have questions huh, how about this, no further questions till this raid is over, understood?"
"Yes Captain!"
Kaira kept her distance from the rest of the team, her arms crossed and her brows furrowed in disgust as she watched the Soul-Hunters of the Fourteenth Soul-Squad treat a dungeon raid so casually.
’Is this how the fourteenth Soul-Squad handles dungeon raids? How appalling, now it’s clear to me why they are at the bottom. Honestly I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided to join this sorry excuse of a Soul-Squad. However...’ She thought to herself, then turned her gaze toward Rai, who was walking beside Ken.
’Rai Voltia...’ She called out his name in her thoughts.
"Hey Rai." Ken leaned toward Rai and whispered, nudging him repeatedly with his elbow. "I think Kaira has a crush on me, can’t say I blame her, I mean I do have a natural charisma."
"Crush?" Rai’s brows jerked. "What makes you say that?"
Ken subtly pointed behind them with his thumb, careful not to draw attention. "She’s totally checking me out."
Rai turned to sneak a glance, only to meet her piercing gaze head-on. It was obvious the gaze was directed at him, he could feel it, after all thanks to the system errors he levelled up to a point his perception was high tier.
He turned back then sighed. "If she’s checking you out, then you’re in big trouble."
They arrived at the dungeon site and spotted a short old man standing several meters in front of the entrance. Beside him were three others, two men and one woman all waiting patiently.
"Sorry for making you wait so long, we’re here!" Kazuki spoke as they approached the old man and his companions. The group exchanged quick glances with one another before turning their attention toward him.
"Who are you?" The old man asked, confused."
"Oh that’s right, we haven’t introduced ourselves. We are the Soul-Squad that applied for the rights to raid this dungeon."
"What?" The old man’s eyes jerked. "What are you talking about?"
"Huh?" Kazuki’s eyes widened, he couldn’t believe his ears. "Three days ago the 14th Soul-Squad put up a request to raid the B-rank dungeon, and just this morning it got approved." This dungeon was his only chance, he wasn’t sure he was ever going to come across a B-rank dungeon like this again without it being won over by another Soul-Squad.
"Approved?" The old man’s brows moved slightly, and he turned to look at the woman beside him. "Ruri, did you approve another request even after another Soul-Squad has already been given the rights to raid the dungeon?" He said, giving her a slight nod.
"Forgive me chief, I wasn’t aware that the dungeon rights had already been bought by under Soul-Squad." The woman — Ruri, said as she bowed politely, offering her sincere apologies.
"Bought!? You’re telling me the dungeon appeared out of thin air three days ago has already been bought by another Soul-Squad?" Ken said, a bit surprised. The closest Soul-Squad to the Mysthaven village was the fourteenth Soul-Squad, so how was it already sold.
"Hey, old man." Kazuki called out to the old man, who turned out to be the village chief, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Who was the bastard that brought the rights to raid my dungeon?"
"That would be me." A bold voice came from behind him, and everyone turned to see who it was. Kazuki’s intimidating look quickly faded, replaced by a stunned expression of disbelief.
"W—W—what!?" He exclaimed, his voice echoing through the area as his eyes locked with the captain of the Eighth Soul-Squad, along with five of her members. The air around them grew tense, and even the breeze seemed to pause for a moment.
"Long time no see huh, Kazuki Matasuragi!" A loud feminine voice exclaimed, followed by laughter filled with mockery that echoed through the air.
"Misa!? What the hell are you doing here!?" He exclaimed.
Misa Veylir, also known as the captain of the eight Soul-Squad. Born of royalty, she left her kingdom to become a Soul-Hunter and is currently one of the strongest Soul-Hunters in the kingdom just after a year of joining the association. Taking her Soul-Squad to the top, they became the second best in the whole kingdom, at least according to last year’s ranking.
"Huh? Has living in poverty in that village of yours depreciate your reasoning? We are here to raid our dungeon of course!" She chuckled as she spoke, her voice full of confidence and amusement, leaving everyone from both guilds standing in stunned silence.
