Face-Slapping System-Chapter 252: The Old Man

"Ahemm! May I ask about the price of this Lacheron Tonstantine Overseas watch?"

Roland turned to look at the man behind him.

To be precise, it was an old man with gray hair.

Roland had actually noticed him since earlier with his powerful senses. However, knowing that it was the same old man that Gina assisted earlier, he did not react and allowed him to watch as Carlos explained the Lacheron Watch to him.

He did not expect that this old man would interject at this particular time, though.

Roland looked at the old man and then at Carlos. Since the old man had already asked anyway, he nodded his head at Carlos, curious of the price of this watch as well.

Carlos hesitated for a bit, took a glance at the security and ultimately decided to name the price of the watch once the security took notice of his signal slowly came over.

"Well, since this is the latest release and you also want the alligator leather to come with it, this Lacheron Tonstantine Overseas is valued at 39,999 Global Dollars…"

'39,999?' Roland had a thoughtful expression upon hearing that price.

It's actually cheaper compared to what he had expected and saw online.

Well, it's not that it matters to him anyway. He didn't even want to bargain as this was way below his estimated price. He also understands that the branch must secure profit as well. He was determined to get this one for Stacey.

What he was curious about, though, was what would happen next now that this old man learned of the price of the watch.

'Is he planning to snatch it from me?'

Now, Roland's interests were piqued.

This old man doesn't seem to be bad either. When Gina left this old man to assist him earlier, the old man didn't seem to mind it, so at the very least Roland at least had some neutral first impression regarding this old man.

Just then, the old man, who seemed to have recovered from shock, let out a long breath and said, "Isn't this a bit too much?"

'Hmm? Is he going to bargain?' Not wanting to continue the drama, Roland was about to say that the price was just right when the old man spoke again.

"I mean, I know that the branch must make profit as well but I think setting this kind of price is a bit too much. Well, in any case, even if I have the money, I myself would not buy a watch as expensive as this," he said with a shake of his head.

He looked at Roland and continued, "Young man, if I were you I would not buy this watch at all. I mean, you could buy it but not at this price."

There was an expression of pity in his face. It was as if he truly did not want Roland to lose out by buying such an expensive item.

He then turned around to Carlos and said, "Come on, don't take advantage of this young man. I saw in another shop a few blocks away. The same watch and the same brand just for 25,000 Global Dollars, ripping him off of almost 10,000 is not a good thing to do."

"Young man, I'm telling you, don't buy this stuff for 39,999. I can give you the address of the shop and you can go there yourself so you can see. And besides, I saw that you already bought some items in that bag shop earlier, I don't think spending more would be necessary if you can save a lot, right?"

Roland tilted for a bit and thought that the old man actually made sense. As someone who experienced the lowest of the low, he knew how important it was to save money.

Ever since he got the System, though, he had already spent a lot, and knew that he would continue on doing so.

The amount of money he would receive from the System would also continue to increase, and besides, with his business empire growing every single day, he was not worried about spending his money at all.

After all, his mindset had already changed for the better.

What would he use the money for if he did not spend it? If he continues to be frugal, would he be able to continue his success?

And besides, he knew for a fact that the price 39,999 was just the right price for the watch. This was, after all, considered a luxurious watch.

Hoping too much for a low price might even lead to him buying a defective, or even a fake product.

And besides, Roland could feel that there was something fishy regarding this old man. He pretended to listen, but was actually still keen on buying the watch.

Carlos on the other felt that he had eaten shit. Everything was going well before, how could this old man appear all of a sudden and ruin such an eventful encounter for him?

The security approached as Carlos signaled for him to stand by.

"Sir, don't you think that's very inappropriate?" He said with a wry smile.

"What do you mean inappropriate? I am merely helping this young man. He already bought something earlier, how could he possibly still buy something like this watch of yours with that kind of price? If you lower it to 25,000 I think it might still be possible. But, 39,000? You're clearly asking for too much!" The old man replied with an aggrieved tone as he looked at Roland.

Deep inside his heart, the old man was already praying for Roland to take the bait.

In truth, there was actually no cheaper option. The shop that he said was actually just a lie that he made up on the spot. The reason why he did so was because he also wanted the same watch that Roland was eyeing.

The old man has been there since Carlos began explaining the watch to Roland so he knew as well how good the watch was.

The price was actually very low, and he actually plans to resell it for a higher price.

This was his business and he had made a lot of money through this kind of effort.

In fact, this was not the first time that he had misled someone so that he could buy the item that they were eyeing for. Of course, he knew the rules of these shops so he didn't want it to be too obvious.

Now, his only problem was to let Roland believe him, and his strategy was to tempt him with something cheaper.

After all, he already saw Roland earlier buying expensive stuff in that bag shop earlier so he did not think that he would refuse buying the same watch for a cheaper price.

Now, he was mainly waiting for Roland and Carlos to take the bait.

In fact, his plan involved Carlos as well.

If Carlos decided to lower the price a little bit, it would only solidify the idea that this watch could indeed be bought for a cheaper price, and it should lead to Roland hesitating to buy it.

Roland's hesitation would be his clear signal that this watch would become his.

Unfortunately for him, he clearly underestimated Roland's buying power, as well as his eagerness to buy this watch for Stacey.
