Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband-Chapter 228: Hello
Chapter 228: Hello
"Kimberlee. This is a surprise." Samantha looked up from her coffee, trying to mask her inner sigh. Her friend stood before her, looking exactly the same as she always had—striking as ever and, as Samantha had expected, here because of Aiden. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"Are you really surprised?" Kimberlee asked with a raised brow. "Weren’t you the one who messaged me about Aiden and him finding someone new?"
"I did message you," Samantha admitted, setting her cup down carefully as she gestured for Kimberlee to sit opposite her. "But I told you to forget about going back to him. Something I know you’ve been counting on all this time. He’s found someone—a good woman."
"And you thought that would keep me away?" Kimberlee’s voice was calm, but there was a sharp edge to it.
"I hoped it would, yes," Samantha replied, her tone softening with a hint of frustration. "Or at least force you to take a step back and really think about what you’re doing. This obsession you have with him—it needs closure, Kimberlee. You need closure." She leaned forward slightly, her expression earnest. "You’re my friend, and so is he. All these years, I kept quiet because I knew you believed he would come around, that he’d forget the history between you two and choose you. But that hasn’t happened, Kimberlee. I hoped so too. I would like nothing better to see my two best friends happy. However, it’s not going to happen now."
Kimberlee’s lips tightened, but she said nothing, her eyes fixed on Samantha as if daring her to continue.
"And that’s why you need to let him go," Samantha said quietly. "It’s time to move on. Clinging to this is only hurting you. Aiden has made his choice, and it’s not fair to you—or to him—to keep holding on to something that’s not there anymore, that hasn’t been there for a long time."
Samantha paused, letting her words hang in the air between them. She hoped—really hoped—that Kimberlee would finally take a step back and see the truth for what it was. But instead of understanding, Kimberlee’s expression hardened as she leaned forward.
"Didn’t he divorce the woman he married?" Kimberlee questioned sharply, her eyes narrowing. "So now he’s already found someone else? Is that what you’re trying to tell me? Sam, you’re the one who’s confused here. Aiden must have married her to please his grandmother—it’s the only explanation. And then he divorced her because he realized he couldn’t love anyone else. But he’s too stubborn, too caught up in his pride, to come back to me. So now he’s distracting himself with another woman, that’s all this is."
Samantha sighed and shook her head, setting her coffee cup down with a clink. "Kim, you should’ve been a novelist with the kind of elaborate romance stories you’ve got spinning in your head. But this? This isn’t one of those tales, and you’re deluding yourself if you think it is."
Her tone softened, though her words remained firm. "Trust me, Aiden isn’t playing some game of ego or trying to make you jealous. It’s been years since the two of you broke off. He’s completely head over heels for this girl. And I’ve met her. She is indeed amazing. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, Kimberlee. This is real, and you need to stop making excuses to hold on to something that’s already gone."
Kimberlee’s expression grew defiant as she leaned back in her chair, her arms crossed over her chest. "Samantha, you know as well as I do that Aiden is a loyal man. He wouldn’t just forget his first love, not like this. I was the one he proposed to. Me! Do you think that kind of love just disappears? That kind of commitment?" Her voice quivered slightly, though she tried to sound resolute and sure. But Samantha knew the girl for years. Samantha had to know that Aiden was loyal but he was also unforgiving to people who crossed his boundaries.
Kimberlee stood abruptly, pushing her chair back with a scrape as she grabbed her bag. "If he’s really moved on, then fine. But I need to see it with my own eyes. I have to hear it from him, or I’ll never believe it."
Just as she would have walked away, Samantha reached out and grabbed her wrist, forcing her to pause.
"Wait, Kim," Samantha sai. She met Kimberlee’s eyes, her own gaze filled with concern and determination. "If you go and see for yourself that Aiden has truly moved on, will you promise me something?"
Kimberlee tilted her head slightly, "What is it?"
"Promise me that if you find out there’s no chance—if he’s really happy and committed to someone else—you’ll let go. Completely. No more clinging to the past, no more hoping for something that isn’t there. Can you promise me that?"
Kimberlee hesitated, her hand still resting on the strap of her bag. She studied Samantha for a long moment, as if trying to gauge her sincerity. Finally, she sighed, her shoulders slumping ever so slightly.
"Fine," Kimberlee said softly, her tone laced with reluctance. "If I see for myself that there’s no hope for me and Aiden—if he’s truly moved on—then yes, I’ll leave it alone. I’ll let him go."
Samantha released her wrist and leaned back in her chair, a small sigh of relief escaping her. "Thank you, Kim. That’s all I’m asking. For your sake and his."
Kimberlee gave a faint nod and turned, her heels clicking against the floor as she made her way to the door. Samantha watched her go, her coffee forgotten, a sshe wondered for the nth time if she had done the right thing in involving Kimberlee. Should she have waited until Aiden was married again and then gone ahead to tell Kimberlee? But that would have meant betraying her friend.
But as she sat there, she convinced herself that she had done the right thing. Her friends deserved one last chance before there was no turning back.
