Chapter 232: What Are You Planning?

"What’s for dinner?" Serena asked, her wide eyes sparkling with curiosity the moment she spotted Aiden standing in the kitchen.

"You," he replied with a mischievous smirk. Before she could react, Aiden closed the distance between them in a few swift strides. With an effortless motion, he scooped her up and set her down on the edge of the table.

Her startled laugh turned into a soft gasp as his lips claimed hers in a kiss that left no room for argument. Like he said, she was the ’dinner’ tonight. The kiss was possessive, stealing her breath and drawing her focus entirely to him. She couldn’t help but grin against his lips, though her expression was quickly swallowed by the intensity of his kiss. His hands remained at her sides, holding her in place as he deepened the kiss, pulling her further into his orbit.

Caught between surprise and delight, Serena felt her grin melt into the kiss. Her arms instinctively wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer as she kissed him back with equal enthusiasm.

After all, she only had two great loves in her life: Aiden and food. Tonight, she wouldn’t be silly enough to choose between them. As long as she had one—or both—she figured she could handle everything.

Finally, Aiden pulled back, just enough to let them catch their breaths. His dark eyes lingered on her, amusement and heat swirling within them. Serena tilted her head, her lips curling into a teasing smile as she raised a brow.

"Is that it?" she asked, her tone playful, her wide eyes sparkling as she leaned back slightly. "You’re already done with your meal?"

His eyes heated at her new posture which highlighted certain parts of her body and he almost gave her a growl as he leaned forward bit her lip, sending a shiver down her spine," Nope. That was just a taste. But I can hear your stomach rumbling. So, going to feed you first."

She brought her arms around his neck again and then leaned in close, whispering in his ear," I don’t mind feasting on you. The stomach hunger can wait."

Aiden chuckled warmly as he placed his hands on her forearms, ready to untangle her grip. But before he could pull away, she stilled, her expression shifting. Her brows knitted together as she leaned toward him, her nose just inches from his chest.

"You smell... different," she muttered, her voice soft and thoughtful. She sniffed audibly, her nose almost brushing against his shirt. Her eyes narrowed as she leaned back to look at him. "Aiden Hawk, did you get too close to another woman?"

"Were you a dog in a past life?" he asked with a loud laugh this time. "You sniff my shirt and decide I’ve been around another woman?"

Serena crossed her arms and gave him a pointed look, her lips pursed in mock seriousness. "I don’t know about a past life, but I do know this floral, cloying smell is not your usual one."

He let out a full-bodied laugh at her determination, rubbing his nose against hers affectionately before pulling back just enough to meet her eyes. "You’re not wrong," he admitted, a faint smirk still lingering on his lips. "An executive fainted in my office today. I picked her up and moved her to the couch."

Serena cocked her head to the side, her lips pursing in thought as she processed his explanation. When he moved to step away, her hands darted out, catching his wrists. Her fingers barely spanned their thickness, but Aiden stilled, letting her hold him. She pouted, her lips forming a perfect, exaggerated frown as she looked up at him.

"I don’t like it," she declared, almost petulant like a child. "You carried another woman? Just a few minutes ago, I was happy that you could pick me up so easily, but now..." She sighed dramatically, her pout deepening. "Now I wish you were a little weakling."

"So you’d prefer me struggling to pick you up?"

"I’d prefer to see you struggling to pick other women up," Serena said with a dramatic roll of her eyes, though the twitch of her lips betrayed her amusement. There was no distrust in her but that did not mean she found it okay.

Her hands slid from his wrists to his fingers, her thumb pausing to trace the bare space on his ring finger. The motion was slow, almost absentminded, but her words carried an edge. "I need to put the band here as soon as possible to warn others to stay far, far away."

Aiden tilted his head, his lips quirking into a crooked smile as he watched her. "A band, huh?" he murmured. He let go of her hands and reached toward the counter and quickly tore a strip of silver foil from a roll nearby. Holding it up between his fingers, he smoothly twisted it into a makeshift band, its edges crinkling as it took shape.

"There," he said, showing it to her with a mock-serious expression. "Until you’re ready to propose to me properly, you can put this on my finger. Consider it a placeholder."

"Seriously?" she asked.

Aiden shrugged, his grin widening. "Hey, it’s shiny, it fits, and it gets the message across. What more do you need?"

She rolled her eyes again but couldn’t hide the smile breaking across her face. But before she could take it from his hand, he shook his head and moved back, holding the make shift ring between his lips, an eyebrow raised in challenge.

Serena looked at him and then the ring, before leaning forward. Tilting her head, she took the ring with from his mouth with her teeth, making sure to rub her lips against his tantalizingly. He smiled as he looked at the little imprints of her teeth on the ring," Now it even carries your mark."

With a serious look, Serena moved the foil ring to its place and declared with mock solemnity, stepping back to inspect her handiwork. "Perfect. Now the world knows you’re only mine.."
