Chapter 263: Looked Everywhere

"Mr. Hawk, we’ve searched everywhere. There was an accident on the cliffs a few days ago, but our reports confirm only one person was involved. That individual was taken to the hospital and later received by their family. There’s no evidence of anyone else at the scene. If your wife really fell from the cliff..." The officer hesitated. "...the chances of her being found alive or even finding her body are slim."

"My wife is alive." Aiden’s tone was cold, his eyes fixed on the ground as his posture remained tense and unyielding. His words left no room for argument. The officer sighed. It was what usually happened with victim’s family. They would not believe their loved one was dead until they saw the dead body themselves. But finding a dead body days after the incident was almost impossible as well. It would already have been taken away by wild animals.

Another thing that was odd was the fact they they had assumed that the driver in the car had been alone. That they had probably fallen asleep at the wheel and then later jumped off when the accident happened. The woman had indeed been quite lucky. But, according to Aiden Hawk, his unconscious wife had been the one placed in the driving seat before the car had been sent careening. That meant the woman that had been taken away was probably someone who had tried to either save the car hanging on the precipice or someone else. But if there were two victims, things would inevitably change.

"Can you give me the details of the person who fell and was taken to the hospital?" Aiden asked sharply then.

The officer hesitated, then answered, "It was a member of the Brown family—relative of Dr. Brown." He glanced around before continuing in a quieter tone. "I should warn you, though. The Browns are an old and powerful military family. If you’re planning to question them, it won’t be easy, even for you Mr Hawk."

Aiden’s expression darkened, but he stayed silent. That was true. The military families tended to stay away from business as they could be at risk. And Dr Brown, as far as he knew was the last member of the family and said to be more reticent about meeting new people.

"Some of us believe the accident wasn’t an accident," the officer admitted cautiously. "There were... signs it was staged, possibly even attempted murder. But the Browns shut down the investigation before it went anywhere. They have the influence to keep things quiet."

Aiden stiffened, his instincts screaming. If this was definitely staged then it had to be Serena. Maybe the Brown’s had made a mistake and taken Serena? He needed to look for her.

"How is she?" Mabel Hawk asked, her voice heavy with exhaustion as she looked at Nathan, hoping for some reassurance. Never would she have dreamed that her little girl would do something like this?

Nathan sighed and shook his head. "She suffered a myocardial infarction. From what I can tell, she’s been experiencing heart palpitations for a few days now, likely as a result of everything she did. She’s lucky she’s young and resilient—if she weren’t, this could have easily ended in a fatal heart attack."

The older woman’s shoulders slumped and she "So, she’s not out of danger yet?" she asked quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Nathan hesitated before replying, choosing his words carefully. "She’s stable for now, but she’ll need time to recover fully. Her heart needs rest.

Mabel covered her face with her hands and sighed. What a day. She... an old woman was sitting in the waiting room for her young granddaughter because she had suffered a heart attack.

"What about Aiden? Has he found anything about Serena?"

Nathan sighed and shook his head," Not yet. He has found the place where the accident happened but no sign of Serena. And there was only one victim who has been sent back to her family. The car, of course, is Ella’s."

Mabel’s lips tightened, and she shook her head in frustration. "That girl," she muttered. "Why did she do this? If only we had been stricter with her when she first wanted to bring Charles back."

Nathan stiffened at the mention of Charles Hawk. The man had always been trouble, capable of manipulating anyone, even his own children. He had learnt that the hard way but the lesson for Ella was one that she could not return from. It had almost proven fatal.

Nathan couldn’t help but feel anger at how Charles had used Ella for his own purposes. That bastar*. At least Aiden had him thrown out of the house. If it had been upto Nathan, he would have thrown the man in a dark basement where he could not create more trouble.

But as he thought about the events Ella had described, something didn’t sit right. According to Ella, Serena had fallen and hit her head during their argument. But if that was the case, why hadn’t her veil been stained with blood? And how had Kim been able to wear the veil and the dress to come to the wedding with grandmother and impersonate Serena? Even more puzzling was how the blood had been cleaned up so quickly and thoroughly.

Nathan frowned. Something about this story wasn’t adding up. He didn’t know why... but this felt premeditated. As if it had been planned instead of happening so suddenly. But if everything was preplanned then Ella had been involved in something far more sinister. And Aiden would never forgive her...

Nathan sighed. He needed to look for answers without having to waste time. Those people already knew that Aiden had discovered everything, given time, they would be able to get rid of all clues. The first action was to... put Charles Hawk, Millie and Kimberlee under house arrest.

And, in that moment, he realized, he did have the power to do it. Without hesitation, he pulled out his phone and made a call to the head of security, giving him instructions.
