Farm Tough Girl-Chapter 167 - 168 Got Hit _1
Chapter 167: Chapter 168 Got Hit _1
Chapter 167 -168 Got Hit _1
The villagers of Tupo Village busied themselves with the harvest season, all focused on tending to the crops in their fields, leaving no time to gossip. Hence, the matter concerning Qiao Yuanzhen and Qinghe dissipated like a breeze, vanishing as soon as it blew.
Muniang had just finished harvesting the last crop of fruits and vegetables at Tianzhuang. The weather would turn cold soon, preventing further growth of produce, but the yield had brought significant profits, leaving Muniang quite content.

“Lady, Master Zeng, the construction foreman Zeng Gang, is here.”
Muniang was in the midst of going over the accounts when she heard the news, feeling slightly surprised, “Zeng Gang?” Since the completion of the estate, there had been little contact with him, and it was a surprise that he came to visit today.
“Why have you come?” Muniang asked with a smile as she walked into the parlor.
Zeng Gang was seated in a chair, craning his neck to look around curiously, unsure of what he was searching for. At the sound of Muniang’s voice, he promptly said, “Oh, I, I, I just came to check things out.”
Muniang cocked her head to one side and glanced at him, “Our house is in good shape, don’t worry, it definitely won’t collapse.” She knew he had felt guilty since the embroidery room incident.
Embarrassed, Zeng Gang scratched his head, “Oh, I just had some concerns.” Despite his words, he couldn’t help but look around anxiously.
Muniang was immediately confused by his behavior. Zeng Gang was not one to lie, and this clearly revealed that his reason for visiting today was not straightforward.
“Is there something else you want to talk to me about?” Muniang asked directly.
“Ah, ah? Well, I did come to check if the house was still sturdy, but then I happened to hear about Qiao Yuanzhen divorcing his wife,” Zeng Gang brought up the topic as if by accident, but he had come precisely because he had learned about it.
The thought of that beast failing to appreciate Qinghe, letting her go, made him seethe with anger. Besides, Qinghe was pregnant!
He had planned to visit the Li Family to see her, but upon learning that she had moved in with Muniang, he hurried over to check on her, wanting to make sure she was alright, not overwhelmed with grief or in poor health.
Muniang gave him a peculiar look, and Zeng Gang quickly explained, “Qinghe used to help manage the embroidery room, and I got to know her when I was building it. We’re acquaintances, so I just wanted to check on how she’s doing.”
There’s a saying that the more one tries to justify, the worse it gets.
Muniang curled her lips, her mind clearing up, “That’s right, she was indeed divorced by Qiao Yuanzhen. She didn’t even know she was pregnant and even fainted from anger. The doctor said she was weakened from the stress, and at the Qiao family, she probably was both upset and overworked, sigh, I feel for her just hearing about it.” She intentionally made the situation sound terrible while watching Zeng Gang’s reaction closely.
Sure enough, worry creased his brow as he asked Muniang, “Then how is she now? Is her health alright? Is she still distressed?”
Muniang gave him a look that was both amused and mocking, “With so many questions, which do you expect me to answer?”
Zeng Gang’s face turned red, and seeing the fox-like gleam in Muniang’s eyes, he realized his behavior had given everything away.
Just then, Qinghe entered the room, “Muniang, who has come to visit?”
Zeng Gang quickly looked up, and there she was, perfectly fine. Her complexion was rosy, she moved with ease, and her demeanor was cheerful. Qinghe’s current state was clearly much better than before she had been divorced!
Noticing Zeng Gang’s gaze, Qinghe smiled and said, “It’s Master Zeng. What brings you here today?”
Zeng Gang hastily averted his eyes from Qinghe’s, “I, I, I just came to see how the estate was holding up.”
Muniang suppressed a smile, “He just asked about you, concerned about you moving out from the Qiao family, afraid that you might feel upset.”
“Is that so,” Qinghe smiled gratefully, “It’s been a while since anyone has shown concern for me. Just gossip in the village spreading merrily, no one really cares about how I’m actually doing.”
Zeng Gang, who had been too nervous to even breathe, suddenly looked up and met Qinghe’s eyes, “Don’t worry, justice resides in people’s hearts, and the bad ones will get their due!”
Qinghe smiled and nodded her head, “Thank you.”
“Then I’ll be going,” said Zeng Gang, now reassured by her current state.
“Stay for a meal, there’s still a journey to the town,” Muniang said.
“No need, I’d better hurry back!” Zeng Gang said, then ran off like a shot; his visit had been nonsense to begin with, staying for a meal would have been even more absurd.
Muniang chuckled, taking Qinghe’s hand, “What do you think of that silly boy?”
Qinghe, not quite understanding, replied, “Master Zeng? He’s quite nice, just a bit shy, seems like he gets nervous around girls.”
Muniang laughed quietly to herself, that’s because he gets nervous around you, but she didn’t point it out. She actually thought this kind of man was quite well-matched with Qinghe. Better to let things take their course—maybe Qinghe could indeed seize a chance for happiness.
However, the very next morning, Qingya came to Muniang with a piece of gossip.
“That Yuanzhen from the Qiao family got beaten up, carried back home last night, not a single spot on him wasn’t injured. Originally just a delicate scholar, now he’s ended up like an alluring invalid.”
Muniang was surprised, “Do you know who did it?”
“No idea, they say Yuanzhen was hoodwinked and beaten without seeing anyone. The Qiao family is furious to death, have already submitted a petition to the authorities demanding an investigation. But who can figure out who it was, huh? He wasn’t beaten in the village, it happened on a small road in the town. I reckon he must have offended someone to be targeted like that. Serves him right, finally venting our anger too.”
Muniang smiled with a curl of her lip; it wasn’t in the village, it was in the town, and just last night, the night Zeng Gang went back. Seems like the lad is quite sincere about Qinghe.
“Lady, what are you laughing at? Don’t tell me you know who it was?” Qingya asked curiously.
Muniang mysteriously replied, “Whoever beat up Yuanzhen, I’m happy about it!”
As time flew by, winter had approached, nearly the New Year. Muniang thought about going to town to buy some goods for the celebration, planning for a lively holiday.
But before she could leave, she was stopped by Jin Feng.
“Better not go to town, it’s not peaceful there,” Jin Feng said gravely.
Muniang looked at Jin Feng curiously. Ever since Tianniu and Hongsheng were abducted, he had become much more solemn, and even if they went out, he followed closely without taking his eyes off her.
“Are you that afraid something might happen to Erliang? Why?” Muniang asked.
Jin Feng wanted to use the child abduction as a pretext, but Muniang had directly mentioned Erliang, probably having detected something amiss. He suddenly didn’t know what excuse to use, this woman was too smart, always catching him off guard.
