Farm Tough Girl-Chapter 222 - 223 Killing Her_1
Chapter 222: Chapter 223 Killing Her_1
Chapter 222 -223 Killing Her_1
“Qinghe, delivering food to Chengzi and Wanwan again? I must say, you really don’t need to exhaust yourself like this. It’s not like we’re short of servants—they could carry it over for you. Why must you run around,” Muniang chided.
“I’m idle anyway, and having the servants do it would be too showy. After all, my brother and sister-in-law are peasants, and we have other villagers around us. If people saw servants delivering things, who knows what they’d say behind our backs? After all, those servants are from your family,” Qinghe said as she packed the food into the box.
Muniang frowned slightly, finding the point valid. A peasant family indeed shouldn’t flaunt wealth by having servants deliver things. “Then I’ll have Qian accompany you there.”
With a helpless smile, Qinghe replied, “Walking out with a maid just to deliver a meal, what will people think of me, acting like some fancy lady?”
Qinghe took Muniang’s hand and sat her down, “Alright, I’ve been doing this for so long, it’s not tiring at all. Besides, I need to move around more with the baby coming, or it’ll be difficult for it to come out later. I’ve got my limits, and besides, we’re within our village, what could possibly happen?”
Muniang finally felt at ease. Although the villagers sometimes gossiped, they were all quite honest at heart. Judging from their current attitude towards Qinghe, who was busily guiding the laborers with the spring planting at Tianzhuang, she indeed had no time to accompany her.
“Just be careful, alright?”
“Mmhmm.”
Qinghe set out with the food box. The gloom that had arisen due to Mrs. Liang and her son a few days earlier had now thoroughly dissipated. The feeling of being pregnant was completely different. All the things she used to fight for, all the petty things she cared about, seemed trivial now at the thought of the baby in her belly.
Qinghe touched her belly and a warm smile spread across her face.
Little did she know that a figure was following her from a distance. Normally, there would be people everywhere in the village, but now, during the busy farming season, many were laboring in the fields, leaving certain areas more concentrated with people.
Qinghe’s walk was not that far, given the small size of Tupo Village, but just then, someone blocked her way.
Qinghe frowned, “Shitou, why aren’t you in school again?”
Shitou glared at her, his eyes filled with resentment. Qinghe, unnerved by his gaze, was clueless as to what she had done to provoke him and instinctively took a few steps back.
“No wonder my mom curses you as a harlot every day. You really are a base creature. Just because I took a little bit of your food, you ran to snitch on me to my parents, you harlot!” Shitou yelled.
Qinghe’s eyes widened in disbelief, staring at the ten-year-old boy in front of her. She was incredulous that such foul language could come from a child’s mouth!
“Shitou, who taught you to speak like this? How can a child say such things? How does your mother usually teach you!” Qinghe was furious. How could such a small child have such a nasty mouth?
Shitou snorted coldly and clenched his teeth. Then he charged at Qinghe, aiming to snatch the food box from her hands. Qinghe quickly dodged to the side. She hadn’t held on to the box tightly, and when he tugged, she let go, thinking Shitou would run off as he had before. But instead, after grabbing the box, he forcefully pushed Qinghe to the ground.
Qinghe’s head spun as she lost her balance, a feeling of despair washing over her for a moment. But then, a pair of strong arms timely wrapped around her waist, sparing her from hitting the ground, which certainly would have resulted in a miscarriage.
Dripping with cold sweat and her legs weak, Qinghe heard Zeng Gang anxiously ask, “Are you alright? Is anything wrong?”
Qinghe’s complexion was somewhat pale, mainly from fright. After catching her breath, she said, “No, no, I’m fine.”
Shitou’s original intention was to make Qinghe take a fall, hoping that she would lose the child in the process. Unexpectedly, Zeng Gang burst onto the scene like a bolt from the blue. Seeing such a fierce grown man, Shitou naturally didn’t dare to cause any more trouble and ran off.
Zeng Gang couldn’t be bothered to chase. After making sure Qinghe was alright, he cursed indignantly, “Whose child is this! They have no upbringing at all. How can their heart be so dark, intentionally bumping into you!”
Qinghe stroked her belly and finally breathed a sigh of relief, “Master Zeng, thank you. If not for you, I might not have escaped this disaster today.”
“You’re too careless, why did you come out alone?” Zeng Gang said with a hint of reproach. “With such a big belly, even a child could harm you.”
Qinghe sighed. How could she have anticipated such a malicious child? There were plenty of pregnant farmwives in the village who worked in the fields, so she hadn’t thought much of it, only to find out that the child harbored such vicious intentions.
Qinghe offered an apologetic smile, “I’m afraid I inadvertently offended that child the other day, and now he’s retaliating against me. It was my oversight.”
With her hand on her belly, Qinghe’s eyes filled with a hint of bitterness, “This child is already so unfortunate, destined to bear the scorn of others after birth, and now even being born safely is so difficult. Why can’t the world tolerate the two of us?”
Zeng Gang, a rough man, didn’t know how to comfort her for a while, “No, no, this child has you as a mother and is sure to be blessed.”
Not wanting to get too emotional in front of others, Qinghe forced a smile, “By the way, what are you doing here? Didn’t you say last time that you were working on a house in the prefectural city? Is it finished?”
Scratching his head awkwardly, Zeng Gang admitted, “Uh-huh, it’s finished.” He couldn’t just say he came as soon as he had finished the job because of her.
Just as Qinghe was about to ask more, she heard Shitou’s voice.
“Right up ahead! I saw them with my own eyes, hugging and cuddling!”
Qinghe’s expression froze, sensing a bad premonition.

It wasn’t long before Shitou arrived with a few other villagers, pointing at Qinghe and Zeng Gang and saying arrogantly, “See, I wasn’t wrong! They are together doing indecent things!”
Zeng Gang became furious at once, “How can you be so scheming! It was clearly you who pushed Qinghe and nearly killed her. She hasn’t even recovered yet, and now you have the gall to run ahead and shift the blame!”
“Hey, watch your words! Is my son someone others can slander? I’ve never seen such clear role reversal. You did something shameless, and now you want to pin it on my son! Have you no shame?” Mrs. Liang’s shrill voice erupted, nearly piercing eardrums.
Shitou hid behind Mrs. Liang, sticking his tongue out and making faces at Qinghe, gloating triumphantly.
Qinghe had never seen anyone so deceitful and shameless, shivering with anger, “Wang Shitou, you’re so young yet so cunning! Even if you dislike me, you shouldn’t harm my child. Now that you’ve failed to harm my child, you’re playing the victim. Is this what your mother teaches you for becoming the Number One Scholar?!”
