FLASH MARRIAGE; CHARMED BY THE RUTHLESS BILLIONAIRE CEO-Chapter 222: Regret And Agony
Blaze left the hospital with his head lowered and his heart heavy after receiving the disheartening report of his foolishness.
Aside from Henry, who was currently receiving treatment for his partly bruised face, the senator's case was more serious.
Although the fall wasn't deemed to be serious enough to cause a dislocation of the hip joint, it so happened that the senator had once had a hip replacement surgery due to rheumatoid arthritis, some years back.
Consequently, during the fall, the senator's hip ball joint came out of its socket again. But this time around, it was accompanied by a minor fracture.
Due to the severity of the injury and to prevent other complications, the senator was taken for an immediate surgical procedure before he was certified out of danger.
Sadly, for the next couple of months, he won't be able to walk again except with the aid of a wheelchair or crutches.
After leaving the hospital premises, without bothering to check on his wife to know if she was awake, Blaze discharged his chauffeur and climbed behind the steering wheel of his car. He slowly pulled out of the car parking lot and drove off with no particular direction in mind.
Alone on the road with his thoughts suffocating him, Blaze drove for hours, his face etched with despair and his grip on the steering wheel so tight that his knuckles turned white.
The busy city and traffic passed by in a blur as he navigated through different winding roads that led out of the city and into a lonely route.
The road stretched ahead, seemingly endless and empty, with no other vehicles or people in sight.
Aside from the steady rhythm of the engine humming, the rhythmic swish of the tyres on the asphalt, and his heart pounding loudly in his chest, there was complete silence all around him.
Upon getting to an isolated intersection, he stepped on the brake pedal bringing the car to an abrupt halt. He placed his head on the steering wheel as his whole body trembled in anger like a chihuahua standing on a block of ice.
Still holding the steering wheel with an iron grip, he banged his forehead severally on it, honking the car horn in the process.
When he couldn't take the agony inside the enclosed space anymore, he climbed out of the car, leaving the door open, as he fell on his knees and let out a sickening cry of great despair.

Back at the hospital, Amelia awoke only to find Eugene seated by her bedside. His head was leaned backwards on the chair and his eyes were closed.
Amelia could tell he was sleeping and decided not to disturb him. She slowly sat up on her bed and reached forward to pick up her phone from the bedside cabinet when he suddenly opened his eyes, stopping her in the process.
"You're awake." His eyes lit up with a mixture of sadness and excitement.
"I'm sorry, I woke you up. I didn't want to disturb." Amelia smiled weakly, her body slightly tired from being in one position.
"It's fine, I'm here for you," Eugene said standing up. "How do you feel?"
"Well rested."
"Do you want me to get you anything like water, food or snacks?"
"Water will be just fine." Amelia smiled in appreciation as Eugene reached out for a bottle of water and a glass before serving her.
"You're such a gentleman." Amelia complimented as she took slow sips of her water.
"I do my best." Eugene beamed proudly. "How about food?"
"I think I'm okay for now. I don't have an appetite." Amelia returned the empty glass to him. She pulled the pillow up leaned back on the bed before turning to face Eugene.
"How long have I been asleep?"
Eugene briefly checked the time on his wristwatch. "I would say roughly eight hours."
"Eight hours!" Amelia's eyes widened.
"Yes, the doctor said you needed lots of rest."
"Oh... What about my father, has he returned home?"
Eugene's heart skipped a beat at Amelia's innocent question.
"Your dad..." He raised his right hand to scratch his head as he thought of what to say.
Eugene knew telling Amelia that her dad was currently hospitalized in the ward below would cause a melt on her part or worsen her condition. So he thought of a white lie to tell that could be redeemable later on.
"Your dad got an urgent call from his office. He left without telling me much but I'm sure he will be sending someone to you."
"He left without saying a word to you?" Amelia raised a brow in suspicion causing Eugene to fidget a little. "That is unlike my dad. But don't worry, I'll call him now." She reached out to pick up her phone when Eugene impulsively stopped her with another statement.
"But your husband came around."
"He did!"
Amelia who was about to pick up her phone paused in her tracks, her eyes flashing with a mixture of happiness and anxiety.
"Yes."
"When?"
"He was here while you were asleep." Eugene lied a little. Even though Blaze had come to the hospital, he never entered her room before he left abruptly without talking to anyone.
"Where is he now?"
"He stepped out briefly but he'll be back soon." Eugene slowly felt comfortable in his lie while praying Amelia would not hate him when she discovered the truth.
"Did he say anything to you?"
"No."
"Did he talk with my dad?"
"I can't say for sure because I stepped out to ease myself." Eugene cleared his throat. "Are you sure you don't want to eat anything?"
His attempt to change the topic failed as Amelia waved her hand dismissively before firing another question.
"Was he looking angry or sad?"
"I can say for sure. You know your husband. He is not the smiling type and it's difficult to tell when he's angry or happy." Eugene picked up an apple with trembling hands and bit into it, in an attempt to mask his nervousness as food always calms him down.
However, his agitation didn't go unnoticed by Amelia who could tell he was not being completely honest with her. She decided not to ask him any more questions about Blaze as she finally picked up her phone.
The light in her eyes dimmed a little as she observed there were no missed calls from her husband after her several attempts to call him earlier.
Pushing her worries to the pit of her stomach, she decided to dial Maria's number.
"Who are you calling?" Eugene craned his neck to look at her phone screen
"Mom," Amelia said calmly without looking up from her phone to see the fright in Eugene's eyes.
"Sister-in-law, you know the doctor said you shouldn't stress yourself, right?"
"How does calling mom amount to stress?" Amelia looked at him innocently.
"U...umm...mom doesn't know that you're in the hospital." Eugene managed to tell the truth this time around.
"Oh! Okay, I'll call my aunt." Amelia shrugged.
"That sounds like a brilliant idea." Eugene let out a sigh of relief. He quickly used this opportunity to remove the senator's phone from where he had kept it and excuse himself to call for backup.
Outside, Amelia's ward, Eugene dialled Blaze's number and waited as it rang without him picking up.
However, when he dialled a second time, Blaze answered the call with a low, "I'm listening."
"Big bro, where are you? Your wife is awake and is asking me a lot of questions. I can't continue lying to her. Please come quickly before I shit in my pants."
"I'm coming." The call instantly disconnected.
