Flash Marriage, Deep Love-Chapter 129: Do you think I’m very understanding?
Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Do you think I’m very understanding?
The old lady wasn’t usually talkative, but now she kept on speaking endlessly, like a cheerful child.
"Then I’ll go right away." After patiently waiting for the old lady to finish speaking, Mrs. Zhou immediately turned around to find the driver to buy a fish tank.
"Wait a moment." The old lady stopped Mrs. Zhou and instructed, "Get the things inside the house first."
After Mrs. Zhou turned and left, the old lady’s gaze fell on Shen Zixian and his family who had come out to greet her.
"Don’t just stand here, come inside." The old lady clasped her hands in front of her. Her previous joy seemed to have disappeared, replaced by a sudden coldness.
Everyone, including Shen Zixian, was accustomed to the old lady’s cold demeanor. Thus, their facial expressions remained calm. Only Ma Huilian and her daughter felt dissatisfaction and jealousy over the old lady’s particular fondness for Mi Jing.
Shen Zixian respected the old lady a lot. Seeing her return home happily, he was also quite pleased. Consequently, his impression of Mi Jing, who was highly praised by the old lady, improved slightly.
"Mom, you must be tired after being out all day. How about letting Huilian run a bath for you?" Shen Zixian didn’t follow the old lady’s instruction to go inside but instead walked to her side, gently supporting her and asking considerately.
"No need. If I want a bath, Xiao Zhou will run it for me." The old lady never disguised her aversion towards Ma Huilian, and even with Shen Zixian’s intercession, she showed no mercy.
Hearing this, Shen Zixian pressed his lips tightly together, a hint of darkness flashing in his eyes.
As a son, he naturally had to respect the old lady’s wishes, but as a husband, he couldn’t ignore Ma Huilian’s feelings. Over the years, he had tried numerous times to change the old lady’s prejudice against Ma Huilian, but it always ended in failure, just like now.
He had thought that given the old lady’s rare good mood today, she might give him some face, but he hadn’t expected her to be so stubborn.
Ma Huilian had always noticed Shen Zixian’s efforts. Though touched, she had grown numb over time.
At this moment, Ma Huilian bowed her head, looking at the ground. Under the dim lamp, her silhouette exuded a sense of grievance and loneliness, which brought a pang of heartache to Shen Zixian.
"Jiajia, take your mother inside." Shen Zixian maintained his usual composure, his tone steady as he spoke to Shen Jiajia.
"Mm." Shen Jiajia obediently nodded and turned to Ma Huilian, saying, "Mom, let’s go inside first."
Ma Huilian didn’t speak, still with her head down, turning to leave with Shen Jiajia in silence. Her demeanor vividly portrayed the image of a young wife suffering in silence. Only Shen Jiajia noticed the hatred flickering in her eyes as she raised her head.
"Mom—"
Shen Zixian called out helplessly to the old lady, just as he was about to say something, he saw Shen Lingxing walking towards them from the corner of his eye and swallowed his words.
Shen Lingxing was always gentle and polite, meticulous in everything he did. He rarely showed any airs of a young master in front of the servants. After the old lady and Mi Jing got out of the car, he personally took out the items from the trunk to avoid any confusion by the servants in bringing in the things Mi Jing wanted to take back home.
"Honey, let’s go home." Shen Lingxing, with a clear objective, walked straight to Mi Jing, put his arm around her shoulders, and without seeming to notice Shen Zixian, said to Mi Jing with a faint smile.
Mi Jing had silently stood beside the old lady. Hearing the old lady praise her made her happy, but she merely smiled faintly and quietly listened to the conversations between the old lady, Mrs. Zhou, and Shen Zixian. Once again, she felt the strange atmosphere of the household.
And now Shen Lingxing’s complete disregard for Shen Zixian further amplified this strangeness for her. However, she suppressed this feeling and smiled, saying, "Grandma, Dad, we’ll be going now."
"It’s getting late. Why don’t you stay over tonight?" Shen Zixian suggested calmly, his face softening slightly.
"Well..." Mi Jing looked hesitant, uncertain if Shen Lingxing wanted to stay. She turned her face to him, waiting for his cue.
With Shen Zixian standing right in front of her, Mi Jing didn’t dare to make any obvious signals. She just quietly observed Shen Lingxing, trying to read his expression.
"Let’s go." Shen Lingxing tightened his grip on Mi Jing’s shoulder, turned her around, and while guiding her towards the car, waved his hand behind him, saying, "Grandma, we’re leaving."
What is he doing?
Mi Jing felt a bit frustrated. Ignoring Shen Zixian like this seemed a bit too much, so she struggled slightly, letting Shen Lingxing lead her while turning back to say, "Dad, we have some matters to attend to, so we can’t stay tonight."
"I understand. Be careful on your way." Shen Zixian wasn’t angry; instead, he smiled as he spoke to Mi Jing.
He can still smile?
Mayor Shen’s temper is really exceptional!
Mi Jing was secretly surprised. She waved to Shen Zixian, smiled, and was then ushered into the car by Shen Lingxing.
After a turn, the silver Rolls-Royce slowly headed towards the gate and soon disappeared from sight.
Watching the direction where the Rolls-Royce had vanished, both the old lady and Shen Zixian had a fleeting look of wistfulness on their faces. An unvoiced sigh was carried away by the night breeze, yet the lingering melancholy in their hearts continued to ferment.
"Did you see? Little Xingxing still won’t forgive you, and you still expect me to accept Ma Huilian?" The old lady’s face turned cold, and there was a hint of anger in her tone. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"..."
Shen Zixian remained silent for a moment, a flash of regret crossing his face. But he quickly regained his composure and spoke plainly, "Mom, does this mean if I get Xiao Xing’s forgiveness, you’ll treat Huilian well?"
"Are you suggesting I’ve been mistreating her?" The old lady’s expression grew colder, her sharp, wise eyes narrowing as she gazed at Shen Zixian with a look as piercing as a blade.
"That’s not what I meant." Shen Zixian explained calmly, "Mom, I hope you can get along well."
"Get along well? How do you define ’well’?" The old lady retorted with a hint of sarcasm.
"..."
Clearly, the old lady was angry. No matter how composed Shen Zixian normally was, facing such a domineering mother still made him somewhat uneasy, and he fell silent again.
Seeing Shen Zixian rendered speechless by her question, the old lady’s stern expression eased slightly. "Don’t bring this up with me again. You can appease whoever you want, but don’t force me to cooperate!"
