Chapter 160: Chapter 160: You Can’t Afford to Mess with My Fourth Brother’s Wife (3)
Noticing Li Jia’s panic, Chu Chen slightly narrowed his eyes, restrained his anger, and calmly commanded, "Go inside and call out a few people!"
Upon hearing this, Li Jia was greatly shocked!
Calling a few people out would just be asking for trouble, wouldn’t it?
"Mr. Chu, I..." Li Jia wanted to refuse, but couldn’t find an excuse.
"What, unwilling?" Chu Chen coldly asked Li Jia while keeping an ear out for any movements around them.
"Willing, of course I’m willing, but I just rushed over and accidentally twisted my ankle. It hurts a lot when I move, seems like I can’t walk at all." Li Jia squatted down, rubbing her ankle with a frown, feigning a painful expression.
But Chu Chen had no time for her theatrics, he took out his phone and directly called Mi Jing.
"Hello, Sister-in-law, immediately call out a few people, I need to catch a reckless bastard!" Chu Chen’s voice was loud enough that anyone within a three-meter radius could hear it clearly.
Soon, Chu Chen hung up the phone. Now, not only was Li Jia scared to death, but even the hiding driver was petrified!
"I... I’m here!"
After a few seconds of consideration, the man finally revealed himself. He had come to the realization that there was no use hiding any longer; sooner or later, he would be caught, and the outcome would be worse than just losing his job! He wasn’t stupid; this was the domain of wealthy people, and as a poor driver, he couldn’t play any tricks here.
"Didn’t you hide pretty well earlier? Not pretending to be a grandson anymore?" Chu Chen, with the typical arrogance of a scion of a wealthy family, spoke harshly.
"I... I’m sorry, I was too scared just now." The man, who had been a driver at the Li Family for many years, understood deeply that no matter if he was right or wrong, admitting fault was the only way to possibly gain forgiveness. Any explanation was futile because they wouldn’t listen to a driver’s defenses. In their eyes, he was always several ranks lower, while they were perpetually noble; listening to him one extra word would feel like a waste of time!
"Move over there!"
Chu Chen pointed to where Li Jia was standing, indicating that the man should walk over to her.
Seeing Chu Chen’s imposing attitude and the fact that even Li Jia was scared of him, the driver could tell he was more formidable than Li Jia, so he obediently followed Chu Chen’s orders and quickly walked to Li Jia’s side.
"Chu Chen, what’s going on?"
As the driver steadied his steps beside Li Jia, Mi Jing approached with three servants. She cast a faint glance at Li Jia before turning to Chu Chen with a puzzled expression.
"Sister-in-law, do you know this woman?" Chu Chen didn’t answer Mi Jing’s question but instead coldly glanced at Li Jia and asked back.
"I know her, but she’s not my friend." Mi Jing responded crisply.
Li Jia stared at Mi Jing in shock. It was still the same familiar and detestable face, but for the first time, a trace of fear crept in.
She was extremely reluctant to believe what she saw and heard. Mi Jing should forever be beneath her, yet she couldn’t imagine that the renowned Mr. Chu of Jin City would actually call her Sister-in-law?
Li Jia, a native of Jin City, understood some family backgrounds due to her family’s decent business and relatively wide social circle.
The Chu Family made their fortune in shipbuilding and had grown to dominate most of Jin City’s water transportation market, making them one of the city’s top families. Although Chu Chen wasn’t the only son, he only had one cousin, so it was clear that Mi Jing had little to do with the Chu Family but was likely connected to Fourth Young Master Shen of the Jin City Five Young Masters. Otherwise, why would Chu Chen respectfully call her Sister-in-law?
But Li Jia had always been arrogant in front of Mi Jing. Despite her fear, she struggled to hold it back, raising her chin in a defiant manner. To Chu Chen, this was a blatant display of disdain and contempt for him and Mi Jing!
"Speak! Who instructed you?" Chu Chen’s cold gaze pierced through the driver, his doll-like face radiating an intense pressure.
"It was..." The driver hesitated, thinking that given Li Jia’s nature, even if he took all the blame, she might not appreciate it and could even blame him for not doing a good job.
After some consideration, the driver pointed to Li Jia with a bowed head and said, "It was the Miss who instructed me."
"I instructed you? When did I ask you to do anything?" Li Jia glared at the driver, intending to flatly deny everything!
"Just now!" The driver raised his head and stared at Li Jia confidently. Given her attitude, keeping the job was impossible, so without worries holding him back, the driver gained more courage and continued, "I have no personal grudge against the owner of that car. If it weren’t for your orders, why would I do such a thing."
"You!"
Li Jia pointed at the driver angrily, signaling a warning, but after a second without seeing any fear in him, she put down her hand in irritation and pitifully cried to Chu Chen, "Mr. Chu, please don’t listen to his nonsense. This is Professor Yang’s house, and it’s her birthday today, with so many guests attending the banquet. How could I make him do such a thing?"
What kind of woman is most repugnant?
To Chu Chen, it was a woman like Li Jia, pretentious and treating him like a fool!
It was clear to Chu Chen who was right and who was wrong. He only questioned the driver to give them a chance to admit their mistakes, but Li Jia unfortunately squandered the little goodwill he had.
With a grim face, Chu Chen took two steps forward, stood before Li Jia, suddenly raised his hand, and grabbed her chin, asking with a dangerously gentle smile, "Do you think fooling me is fun?"
"Mmm..."
Chu Chen’s grip was so strong that Li Jia felt her jaw was about to be detached, she shook her head with difficulty. Seeing Chu Chen’s smiling face only intensified her fear, sensing no trace of his kindness. A chill ran down her spine, making her feel both pain and cold. She desperately wanted to scream and escape Chu Chen’s grasp!
"Mr. Chu, isn’t this a bit too harsh on a woman?" A cold voice sounded, and Mi Jing glanced at the newcomer before naturally looking away.
"Young Master."
Upon seeing Zhao Yufan, the three servants behind Mi Jing greeted unevenly, making Chu Chen feel a burst of annoyance.
"Is my business any of yours?" Chu Chen slowly released Li Jia, turned around, and gave Zhao Yufan a sharp and cold look.
"I don’t want to meddle in your affairs, but after all, this is my Aunt’s house, and today is a festive day. I don’t want Mr. Chu to disrupt the lively atmosphere inside." Zhao Yufan said with a smile, assuming the demeanor of the host.
