Food Stall: Customers Chase Me across the Country-Chapter 318 - 319: Joining Forces with the Fire Department
"Comrades, the time has come for the people to test us! The disaster situation is a command, and the people in the disaster area are eagerly waiting for us! Are you ready?!"
"Always ready!"
At the Mei Zhou Fire Brigade, rows of firefighters stood neatly in formation, responding loudly without hesitation after hearing the captain’s words.
Captain Chen Baoguo waved his large hand: "Set off!"
Then, he was the first to jump onto a fire truck.
Following him, the firefighters boarded one after another, and with the sirens blaring, they headed towards the disaster area.
Vice Captain Li Kai held a document and said, "Captain Chen, the first batch of local support is prepared, and if necessary, we can even directly request helicopter assistance."
Chen Baoguo’s furrowed brows relaxed slightly. Having these resources was certainly better than nothing, but given the scale of the affected area, it might still seem inadequate.
"Additionally..."
Li Kai seemed hesitant to continue.
Chen Baoguo frowned and looked at him: "We’re at a critical juncture, what are you holding back for? Speak up if there’s a problem."
Li Kai had thought to organize his words, but upon hearing Chen Baoguo’s urgency, he didn’t dare to delay: "We’ve received a notification from above, an internet celebrity will be joining us to participate in the rescue operation."
"Nonsense!"
Chen Baoguo was furious: "At a time like this? Seeking attention from the disaster area? I don’t care whose concern it is, tell them to turn back and leave!"
Anger flared in Chen Baoguo’s eyes; he was extremely upset by their actions.
This is treating people’s lives as a joke!
It’s like feasting on people’s blood!
Li Kai hurriedly said, "Captain Chen, calm down and hear me out."
"What is there to say? Get them out of here!"
Chen Baoguo remained raging.
Li Kai quickly explained, "This person is somewhat special, let me finish. Unlike typical internet celebrities, this person is a chef, and he’s bringing comprehensive cooking facilities. He won’t be involved in our rescue operations but will handle the food for the affected residents. I believe his presence is more beneficial than harmful. Additionally, we might be able to use his fame to attract more people to join the relief efforts. You know, this disaster has reached historic proportions, and every bit of effort increases our chance of victory."
Chen Baoguo stayed silent.
This disaster was indeed historic, almost unprecedented, and even with over a thousand firefighters gathered in the city, it was uncertain if they could overcome the crisis.
Furthermore, disaster relief isn’t just about rescuing people from the affected areas; the aftermath and recovery efforts require manpower and resources. If it’s truly as Li Kai described, then there might be some value in this initiative.
"Then you keep an eye on him, and if anything goes wrong, remove him immediately."
...
Destruction stretched as far as the eye could see.
Facing the scene of flooding comparable to the Yellow River, Wang Fan and Zhuo Qianqian were speechless.
Against the might of nature, human strength is ultimately limited.
The rampaging flood presented a sight of unimaginable devastation. The murky waters seemed endless, obscured in a yellow torrent. Houses submerged, only a few rooftops peeking out from the water, appearing desolate. Trees were inundated, with only their crowns sticking out, looking extraordinarily isolated. Occasionally, a dull rumbling could be heard, like stones crashing underwater, and even cars swept away by the massive current floated quickly into the distance.
The scene resembled a massive ruinous painting, chilling to the core.
"Hello, are you Mr. Wang Fan?"
At this moment, a person dressed in an orange life jacket approached, greeting Wang Fan from afar.
As he walked, Li Kai observed Wang Fan closely, finding him to have a righteous demeanor, lacking the erratic and unreliable aura often associated with internet personalities.
Furthermore, the expression of sadness and heartbreak on his face appeared genuine, at least showing some compassion.
Wang Fan turned and nodded: "Hello, I am Wang Fan, and this is my assistant."
Ultimately, Wang Fan couldn’t shake off Zhuo Qianqian; she insisted on coming along.
There was no way around it; despite providing numerous reasons, she was both a party member and a league secretary. If you didn’t know, you could let it go, but knowing that means stepping up first, just as outlined in the party charter!
Wang Fan blushed a little, as due to academic performance, in both of his lives, he remained an ordinary citizen, unsure of the truth in Zhuo Qianqian’s claims.
But Qianqian had even arranged for a batch of supplies from school, set to be mailed over in a couple of days, which was a pleasant surprise.
After shaking hands, Li Kai got straight to the point: "Currently, multiple counties are affected. Mr. Wang, just join our logistics team. Your role is to ensure the locals get a hot meal; please absolutely refrain from participating in the disaster relief efforts."
Wang Fan nodded: "I won’t cause trouble for you."
Li Kai said, "Later, follow our last vehicle. From then on, I’ll leave things in your capable hands. Thanks to you, on behalf of the afflicted residents."
Having said that, he respectfully saluted Wang Fan.
Gentlemen judge by actions, not intentions. Regardless of Wang Fan’s motives, his presence signified dedication, deserving the respect he earned.
Wang Fan quickly replied: "It’s what ought to be done; let’s move out now."
Li Kai nodded without additional comment, returning to his vehicle, while Wang Fan and his companion boarded too. The vehicle was packed with various items—rice, flour, vegetables, and meats—all purchased before entering Meizhou.
Wang Fan hadn’t yet activated the system’s donation doubling feature, as the present bonus was mere raw materials. He planned to employ it at a more critical moment.
The convoy soon reached a junction, and the fire brigade headed in another direction, while a regular bus signaled Wang Fan to follow, leading to a relatively safe higher ground temporary settlement.
The settlement had numerous tents already set up, with several nearby open areas also housing varied numbers of tents.
Three individuals alighted from the regular bus, each a chef from different fire teams. They busied themselves unloading kitchen equipment from the vehicle.
Wang Fan didn’t need such hassle; he merely had to press a button, and the sides of the bus would extend over a meter, enlarging the kitchen, making it appear more luxurious.
The fire department chefs, or "Blue Friends," were intrigued by Wang Fan’s setup, realizing technology today was quite advanced, even making an entire cooking bus seem so futuristic.
