Football System: Touchline God-Chapter 80: Boiling Point
The game was getting nasty now. Both teams were feeling the pressure.
In the sixty-fourth minute, Connor Davis clattered into Ishaan Bhatt. The tackle was late and high.
[> "That’s a poor challenge from Davis," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "He’s caught Bhatt on the ankle." <]
Bhatt went down hard. The midfielder was rolling around in pain.
The referee was already reaching for his pocket. Yellow card for Davis.
[> "Davis gets the first booking of the second half," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "The game is getting feisty." <]
The Hastings midfielder couldn’t argue. He’d mistimed it completely.
"Sorry, mate," he said to Bhatt, helping him up.
But the damage was done. The atmosphere was getting toxic.
[> "You can feel the tension building," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "Both teams are on edge." <]
The free kick was taken by Émile Fournier. The ball was played short to Luis Navarro.
Luis tried to turn, but Jake Thompson was right behind him. The challenge was strong but fair.
[> "Thompson winning the ball cleanly," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "Good defending." <]
But Luis wasn’t happy. He thought he’d been fouled.
"Come on, ref!" he shouted. "He’s all over me!"
The referee waved play on. No foul given.
[> "Luis feeling the frustration," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "Rising Stars can’t buy a decision." <]
The ball was played forward to Marcus Price. The striker was already making his run.
Will van Drunen was tracking back, but Marcus had the pace advantage.
[> "Price in behind," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "This could be dangerous." <]
Van Drunen knew he had to do something to prevent a third goal. The Dutch defender slid in from the side, with calculated precision.
The tackle was perfectly timed to prevent serious contact. He got the ball cleanly.
But Marcus was already going down. The striker made the most of minimal contact.
[> "Van Drunen wins the ball," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "But Price is claiming a foul." <]
The referee was unmoved. He waved play on again.
Marcus jumped to his feet, furious. "That’s a foul, ref! He’s kicked me!"
But the official had seen enough diving for one night. No foul was given.
[> "The referee is letting them play," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "He’s had enough of the theatrics." <]
The clock showed sixty-six minutes. The game was boiling over.
Declan Whittaker collected the ball on the left wing. Dylan Foster was already closing him down.
The winger tried to skip past, but Foster stood his ground. The collision was inevitable.
Both players went down in a heap. Arms and legs everywhere.
[> "Both players down," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "That looked painful." <]
Foster was holding his shoulder. Whittaker was clutching his knee.
But neither player was seriously hurt. They both got to their feet.
"Watch where you’re going," Foster said to Whittaker.
"You watch it, mate," Whittaker replied.
The referee stepped between them. His patience was wearing thin.
[> "The referee needs to keep control," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "This could get ugly." <]
The ball was played to Harvey Quinlan in midfield. The midfielder was already looking forward.
Ben Williams came in with a sliding tackle. The challenge was robust.
Quinlan jumped over it, but Williams caught him on the way down.
[> "Williams with the tackle," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "He’s caught Quinlan late." <]
Fweeeee!
The referee’s whistle blew immediately. Yellow card for Williams.
[> "That’s the second booking for Hastings Coastal Academy," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "Williams can’t complain about that one." <]
The free kick was in a dangerous position just outside of the 18-yard box. Twenty-five yards from goal.
Émile Fournier was standing over it. The French midfielder had a sweet strike.
[> "Fournier over the free kick," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "He’s got the technique for this." <]
The wall was set. Five Hastings players blocking the route to goal.
Fournier took his run-up. The shot was curling toward the top corner.
James Mitchell was already moving. The keeper got his fingertips to it.
Just enough to push it over the bar.
[> "Mitchell saves again!" <] Michael Harrison yelled. [> "The keeper is having a brilliant match!" <]
Another corner to Rising Stars. The pressure was relentless.
[> "Hastings are living dangerously," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "They can’t keep defending like this." <]
The corner was taken by Fournier. The ball was whipped in toward the near post.
Jack Stones rose to meet it. The captain’s header was powerful.
But Alex Morgan was there to clear. The defender headed it away from danger.
[> "Morgan with the clearance," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "Hastings clearing their lines again." <]
The ball dropped to Ethan Suleiman on the edge of the box. The winger controlled it well.
Tom Bradley came sliding in. The tackle was mistimed.
Bradley caught Suleiman on the shin. The winger went down hard.
[> "That’s a foul from Bradley," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "He’s caught him flush." <]
The referee’s whistle blew. Yellow card for the Hastings captain.
[> "Bradley gets booked," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "The third yellow card of the half." <]
Bradley couldn’t argue. He’d caught the winger cleanly.
"My fault," he said, helping Suleiman to his feet.
But the Rising Stars winger was limping. He’d taken a knock.
[> "Suleiman looks hurt," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "He might need treatment." <]
The physio was already running onto the pitch. Suleiman was in pain.
On the touchline, Maddox was preparing a substitution. His winger was struggling.
[> "Looks like Rising Stars are making a change," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "Suleiman can’t continue." <]
The fourth official was holding up the board. Number 7 coming off.
Suleiman limped toward the touchline. The crowd applauded his effort.
[> "Suleiman’s had a good game," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "But he’s feeling that tackle." <]
The substitution was made quickly. A fresh player was coming on.
[> "Rising Stars bringing on fresh legs," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "They need energy in the final twenty minutes." <]
The game restarted with another free kick to Rising Stars. The pressure continued.
But Hastings were defending desperately. Every tackle was crucial.
In the sixty-ninth minute, the tension boiled over again.
Luis Navarro was chasing a through ball. James Mitchell was already coming off his line.
The keeper got there first, but Luis was still running at full speed.
The collision was heavy. Both players went down hard.
[> "Big collision," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "Both players down." <]
Mitchell was holding his ribs. Luis was clutching his shoulder.
But the keeper was up first. He was furious with the striker.
"What are you doing?" Mitchell shouted. "I got there first!"
"I was going for the ball," Luis replied, getting to his feet.
The referee stepped between them. The situation was getting heated.
[> "The referee needs to calm this down," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "Tempers are fraying." <]
Both players were booked. Yellow cards all round.
[> "Both players cautioned," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "That’s harsh on both of them." <]
The crowd was getting restless. The game was stop-start now.
[> "This is getting scrappy," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "Too many fouls, not enough football." <]
On the touchline, both managers were getting animated. The pressure was showing.
Maddox was shouting at his players. "Keep calm! Don’t get caught up in this!"
But his team was frustrated. Nothing was going their way.
[> "Rising Stars need to keep their discipline," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "They can’t afford any more bookings." <]
The clock showed seventy minutes. Twenty minutes left to play.
Harvey Quinlan was looking tired. The midfielder had been running non-stop.
On the touchline, Maddox was preparing another substitution.
[> "Looks like another change coming," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "Quinlan’s had a busy evening." <]
The fourth official was preparing his board. Number 8 was coming off.
Quinlan jogged to the touchline. The midfielder had given everything.
[> "Quinlan’s worked his socks off," <] Peter Walsh noted. [> "But Rising Stars need fresh energy." <]
The substitution was made quickly. Another attacking player was coming on.
[> "Rising Stars going for broke," <] Michael Harrison said. [> "They’re throwing everything forward." <]
But Hastings were making changes too. Their manager was thinking tactically.
[> "Both teams making substitutions," <] Peter Walsh observed. [> "The final twenty minutes will be crucial." <]
On the left side, Marcelo was struggling. The Brazilian defender looked exhausted.
He’d been chasing Nathan Price for seventy minutes. The pace was telling.
[> "Marcelo looks spent," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "He’s been working overtime." <]
Maddox was preparing his third substitution. The left-back needed replacing.
The fourth official held up the board again. Number 3 was coming off.
Marcelo trudged toward the touchline. The defender had given his all.
[> "Three changes for Rising Stars," <] Peter Walsh said. [> "Maddox is gambling everything." <]
The fresh players were warming up. The final push was coming.
[> "Rising Stars have used all their substitutions," <] Michael Harrison observed. [> "No more changes possible." <]
The game restarted with new faces on the pitch. The intensity remained.
[> "Can the substitutes make a difference?" <] Peter Walsh asked. [> "Rising Stars need something special." <]
The clock was ticking. Time was running out.
Both teams knew the next goal would be crucial. The tension was unbearable.
[> "Twenty minutes left," <] Michael Harrison noted. [> "This match is far from over." <]
The crowd was on its feet. Home and away fans creating an incredible atmosphere.
