Freedom Jumper-Chapter 160: Godhand Outpost
Chapter 160 - Godhand Outpost
The Dawn of the eighth fortnight neared with the opening and closing of doors from almost every citizen in the Kingdom.
The first of every fortnight is filled with preparations, job payments, and an early morning as business catapults itself into a prosperous week of treating customers right.
Elijah, who had already been awake, was walking out the door with Niko right behind him. Dark eye bags, and a fruit being thrown into his lackadaisical mouth worried Niko, and even resulted in him checking on Elijah's mental health.
"I'm smart enough to be aware of what's happening, but I think the only thing that can help me is time... Last night, I tried my best to fall asleep after sitting on the cliffside. Believe me when I say this, I am trying, but nothing seems to work..."
Niko grew a small frown on his face. Contrary to what he had expected, he had taken this change and traumatic events far better than Elijah. Albeit, Elijah had been involved in far more tantalizing events, and even unwantedly crushed a kid's neck into smithereens.
So of course there would be some discord within his heart — a feeling opposite of envy, but similar in the nature that Niko felt Elijah should not be witnessing the events he is witnessing.
"I understand... I guess I am just glad that you are aware, as that is the most important part of coming back from whatever this is..."
Soon after, they both arrived at the adventure guild, and were greeted with a wide smile by Songa Ogathar.
Her arms opened wide to catch not even a speck of appreciation, and back away in discomfort after witnessing Elijah casually stroll to a seating area.
Thump.
An oversized backpack filled with different pairs of clothes and food was lazily let go of — hitting the floor with subtle sound.
"Uhm. Elijah? Ugh... Nevermind, I won't ask." Songa continued her steps towards the back of the adventure guild, passing through a hooky hallway filled with different rooms.
Niko took a seat right next to him, and began conversing while looking around. "Do you see all the people here Elijah? This is amazing!"
"Oh... Yea, I do. It's just barely dawn and there are already people getting on with their day. Now, I am actually tired... I am hopefully going to sleep on the way to the outpost." Elijah's palm's rubbed his tired eyes, in desperation of sleep, and an itchy sensation of barely closing them the past two days.
"Good, I will make sure you sleep."

From the left of the seating area, Songa rejoined the group who were meandering around the area. Apparently, this was the exact group – including the resource gatherers – that were joining together on this big mission.
Niko had suspected that the reason something like this was even called for was because a large number of adventurers were called away from hunting beasts, and instead told to protect different parts of the border from the intruders. After all, the war had now escalated to a point where another kingdom infiltrated Gion. That is an act of war, and it doesn't mean the kingdom can stop doing everything it is meant to do for its survival.
No introductions were done on the way to the carriage that sat in the road, but only once boarded.
Sitting across from Elijah and Niko were a boy known as Beckett, a fourteen year old adventurer who attends the Tavenas Academy as a second year — or will be at the start of the second quarter. A simple boy with black hair and brown eyes, and unfortunately a missing hand covered by a cloth.
Next to Beckett was a man known as Banks Treefell, and upon further confirmation, it was the child of the owner of the entire Treefell tree. Apparently, his family has been holding that tree for over twelve generations! His bright gray eyes did immediately give them a clue to his power, and it was later confirmed that Beckett also had an earth affinity!
Songa and Kithus were also in the same carriage, but Joffrey was in another with four young adventurers, another adventure knight, and a resource gatherer.
Beckett asked a simple question. "I know you have a fire affinity, but what is your favorite spell?"
"Oh. Probably my explosive fireballs. Although, I just reached the orange core stage and have yet to see what else I can do."
"Orange core! How is that even possible?!" Becket showed his surprise, which also surprised Niko.
Even Elijah perked up his ears.
"I don't know, I guess I just used my magic a lot." Niko continued conversing with Beckett while also being careful about showing off too much. Something he hadn't thought about was the speed of progress compared to Astraea. A less mana-dense environment is sure to slow down one's core progress.
Meanwhile, upon sitting himself in the carriage pulled by pure magic, Elijah slumped into his seat and played his head against an extra pair of clothes he pulled out of his oversized backpack.
Elijah's eyes were wide open staring into the stars as they passed each building — worried about falling asleep for some inexplicable reason.
"Are you feeling alright Elijah?" Songa asked after becoming tired of being in the unknown.
"Yea, I just need some sleep..."
"Well, we will be on the road for about 28 hours, so you will have a lot of time for that. Just don't get angry if we pull you out of your sleep... This paved path from tens of thousands of years ago has served us well, but is still within the beast lands."
So it began, the long journey that Elijah nor Niko expected they would be going on.
The caravan of 14 people traveled through the agriculture district of Tavenas, and even through the border of Sontiad — the slums of Gion where not a single person pays tax.
Eventually, they found themselves within a light forest. Trees that were not nearly as tall and wide as the Crosstree Jungle, but still impressive nonetheless.
Even with the rough and small changes in height because of the poorly maintained stone path, Elijah was still able to get sleep. This was after he had delved into his mind and accidentally fell asleep.
When he awoke, he was in a completely different position. The covered carriage had a wooden and metal frame aimed for stability, and a thick cloth covering that bore the white and blue colors of the kingdom. Of course, on the cloth covering was the symbol of the kingdom. A half sun and moon above a golden crown, with a single sword going through the center.
A kingdom forced to grow with a war they never wanted any part of...
Peeking his head outside the still carriage, he noticed simplistic stone and wooden buildings akin to that of Astraea, and sneaky black tents inside a tree clearing. Everything was surrounded by a modest stone wall.
"What the... What is that?!"
Above the treeline, was a large floating rock with very jagged edges. A large rock that was stabilized in mid air by an immense amount of wind current coming from below. While this was in the far distance, the height and size is what made it visible.
The special view from the Godhand Outpost completely overshadowed the tall forest-filled mountain-range with snow caps perfect for some fun.
