[Ding!]

[Detected soul with malevolent intent incoming!]

[Terminate person with malevolent intent for 150 vengeance points.]

When Lin Fan saw how few vengeance points they were worth, he changed his mind.

He got out of the room, and the assassins drew their swords.

To their surprise, Lin Fan turned and ran back into the room.

"Wake up. There are assassins coming for your life, and I can’t handle them."

He shook and woke Guo He Ru up.

Ho Ming heard Lin Fan and quickly stopped his advance.

He knew Lin Fan was up to something.

"Assassins?!" Guo He Ru was in a daze and didn’t know what had happened, until a sword plunged into the bed right in front of him.

This woke him up as he tried to get up and run away.

"Do something!" He shouted at Lin Fan as he threw whatever he could grab in his hand at the assassin.

Lin Fan was, however, busy dodging the slashes from the assassins.

"It’s too dangerous, not what we signed up for. You didn’t tell us someone was out for your life," he said as he jumped and dodged the sword coming at him from the ground.

Thud.

One of the assassins tried to stab Guo He Ru, and the sword plunged into the wooden pillar next to him.

A few strands of hair from Guo He Ru floated down to the ground slowly as they were cut off by the sword’s sharp blade.

"I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have kept it from you. I shall provide you with whatever pills you need for free if you can kill them." Guo He Ru, facing imminent death, tried to entice Lin Fan and Ho Ming.

When Lin Fan heard what Guo He Ru said, he finished off the three assassins within a few seconds, leaving one of them alive.

[Ding! Congratulations on terminating malevolent intent.]

[Vengeance points + 100.]

[Current Vengeance Points: 300]

The assassins were under his Centurion Leader ability all along.

He had wanted Guo He Ru to come clean and offer him something in return.

"So, what’s this all about?" Lin Fan asked Guo He Ru as he squatted down and stared at the only assassin left alive lying on the ground.

"I’ve tried to get the Liang Family off the supplier’s list from the Alchemy Peak.

"This must have angered them, and they tried to get rid of me, most likely with the help of some other elders in the peak.

"My talents have always attracted such jealousy." Guo He Ru replied as he thought of the most plausible suspect. Read exclusive chapters at novelbuddy

Lin Fan rolled his eyes and said, "I’m starting to think your talent is actually in making enemies."

Ho Ming couldn’t help but nod in agreement.

"You..." Guo He Ru wanted to refute but stopped when he saw the last assassin staring at him.

"Are you the only ones sent?" Lin Fan turned his focus and asked the remaining assassin.

"Kill me now. I will not speak a word."

"Hmm. Very brave." Lin Fan smirked and said, "Instead of killing you, you are free to go."

"What?" The assassin couldn’t believe his ears when he heard it.

But Lin Fan helped him to his feet, patted the dust off him, and led him outside of the room.

The assassin hesitated for a moment, turned, and quickly ran away.

"Why did you let him run away?" Guo He Ru couldn’t comprehend what Lin Fan was trying to do.

"If he is dumb enough, he will lead me back to where the other assassins are. We must take a gamble sometimes," Lin Fan shrugged and said.

Then he turned to Ho Ming, pointed at Guo He Ru, and said, "Stay and protect him while I track the assassin."

Ho Ming nodded, and Lin Fan ran out of the room in the direction where the assassin fled.

The assassin didn’t get far, and he followed behind.

He could see the assassin in hesitation, most likely trying to figure out the best course of action.

The assassin could get back to their hideout, risking being found out, or run away, risking his life by doing so.

The assassin guild doesn’t take too kindly to those who took the money and ran away from the job.

Either option wasn’t easy, but he finally decided to go back to their hideout.

He would have a better fighting chance with the rest of the assassins if he went back.

Much better than running away and having to explain why only he was let go unharmed by Lin Fan.

No one would easily believe him.

Now he realized why Lin Fan was so confident when he let him go.

After making his decision, the assassin ran as fast as he could and finally reached a huge mansion at the end of Herb Town.

Lin Fan was right behind him, and he emerged from the shadows right after.

A great opportunity to try out his Hunting Ground ability, Lin Fan thought.

He walked to a corner of the mansion and marked it.

An illuminated red mark appeared in front of his eyes.

He continued and did the same with the other three corners.

When he was done with the last corner, a three-dimensional image of the mansion appeared in his mind.

Lin Fan could see what was happening within it.

He could see where all the assassins were.

And he could know what they were doing and talking about.

Lin Fan tried and imagined one of the oil lamps being blown out.

And the next moment, it really was.

It was as if he was playing God within the marked hunting ground.

Lin Fan then walked right into the mansion.

He didn’t even need to knock on the door as it opened as he had made it in his mind.

His sudden entrance took the assassins by surprise.

"Who are you! Who let you in?" The leader of the assassins stood up and pointed at Lin Fan.

Before any of them could react, the oil lamps in the room fell onto the ground, and a fire started to break out.

The assassins nearest to Lin Fan drew their swords and lunged at him.

Thud.

Some of them slipped and fell as they stepped onto the oil on the ground.

"Die!"
