Chapter 905: Cutting Off the Retreat

Ignoring the furious curses behind him, Qin Sang rushed outward the moment he entered the passage.

At the same time, he took out the devilish banners and summoned forth the Devilish Flames of Nine Hells.

The Primordial Unity Ring whirled into the air, releasing the Two-Headed Hou.

Black Snake Mountain surely had people stationed outside the island. Since he did not know how many, Qin Sang dared not relax for a moment. If he failed to finish off his opponents quickly, he would risk being surrounded.

Though the situation was chaotic, the fact that he had slain the black-robed man in full view of everyone and taken his treasure already made him the target of all.

Neither Black Snake Mountain nor the Landou Island cultivators were fools. They would certainly reach a tacit agreement: temporarily put aside hostilities, first join forces to kill him, and then fight over the treasure. After all, the treasure belonged to Landou Sect, and those cultivators bore no deep grudge against Black Snake Mountain.

With this thought, Qin Sang ordered the Two-Headed Hou to ready its newly comprehended supernatural ability, the Azure Shadow. The beast growled in protest, reluctant. It had yet to fully grasp this ability, and each use left it weakened.

But under Qin Sang’s stern gaze, the Two-Headed Hou had no choice but to obey.

The passage was not long. Though the black smoke born from the banners had corroded the mist and runes, the pressure of the array still pressed inward on both sides. Together, Qin Sang and the Two-Headed Hou forced their way through and broke out of the confinement.

The black smoke showed no sign of thinning, yet the oppressive force around him suddenly vanished.

Then, from outside, came a delighted voice, "Second Senior Brother, is that you? Did you get the item?"

The voice was unfamiliar. Qin Sang realized this must be the one Black Snake Mountain left behind to guard this place.

Waiting outside was a dwarf, the tenth disciple of Black Snake Mountain, left here to guard and maintain the banners and passage. Believing it was his fellow sect members who had succeeded, he was overjoyed.

In the next moment, the black smoke surged, and two figures shot out.

The dwarf’s joy froze instantly. "Who are you!"

Qin Sang scanned quickly and saw there were only two people outside, one of whom was Zhao Songqiao. Relief settled in his heart, and without hesitation he ordered the Two-Headed Hou to attack.

Roar! The beast bent slightly, its body trembling once before releasing an azure shadow from within.

The dwarf was both shocked and furious. In his mind, given his senior brothers’ strength and the Beast King Banner, even if they had failed to steal the treasure, it was impossible for them to be utterly destroyed and lose the passage.

While maintaining the array, he had never expected such a reversal. Realizing something was wrong, he could only react instinctively.

A vortex formed on his chest and abdomen, and the shadow of a beetle-like gu insect was about to emerge as his body retreated rapidly.

But the dwarf’s cultivation was weaker than the Two-Headed Hou’s, and before the beast’s strongest supernatural ability, he stood no chance.

Before the gu insect could even appear, the azure shadow was already in front of him, reflected in his horrified eyes.

A fierce gale struck as the shadow swept forward with impossible speed.

The dwarf, gripped by terror, found his body immobilized by a strange force. His frantic struggles were useless. With a deafening crash, the azure shadow smashed into him, tearing apart his protective light with ease.

Whoosh! The shadow pierced through his body, then appeared behind him. With a casual swipe, it killed Zhao Songqiao as well, before gradually dissipating.

A gaping hole opened in the dwarf’s chest. His eyes went dim, and he collapsed backward.

Panting heavily, the Two-Headed Hou stuck out its tongue, drained of strength.

"Not bad!" Qin Sang gave a word of praise. Though using such a mighty ability to slay the dwarf was like wielding a butcher’s blade against a chicken, in such a moment, the faster the better.

The beast rolled its eyes at him before returning to the Primordial Unity Ring to rest.

Qin Sang curled a finger, pulling the dwarf’s Mustard Seed Pouch to himself. Then his gaze swept around the area, landing on the black flags nearby.

With the dwarf dead, the flags wavered but the array did not collapse. At the same time, he felt a violent fluctuation from the passage behind. The others were trying to break through.

Qin Sang’s eyes grew cold. Since Black Snake Mountain had treated him as bait, he would show no mercy. He would cut off their retreat!

He reached out, blasting true essence toward the black flags in an attempt to seize them. To his surprise, the flags trembled and scattered his essence.

The flags have no master, yet still hold the array? Qin Sang thought.

A flicker of surprise crossed Qin Sang’s eyes. Then he realized the inner and outer arrays must be connected. Even without an owner, they could run on their own. Unless one knew the method of control, they could not be collected. Only when the island’s grand array suppressed them would they collapse.

There was no time to study the matter. He would destroy them instead!

With a flick of his hand, the Devilish Flames of Nine Hells surged forward and engulfed a black flag.

Already suppressed by the island’s array, the flag burned under the flames. After only a moment, the banner ignited and turned to ash.

The rest grew easier. One after another, the black flags burned away. The black smoke thinned, white mist pressed inward, and the passage narrowed.

Just then, a furious screech echoed. A dreadful aura rushed forth. Alarmed, Qin Sang turned his head to see a surge of blood qi flying toward him.

Within the blood qi, two blood Jiao coiled protectively around a man.

The man’s face was obscured, but Qin Sang clearly sensed two icy, predatory eyes that chilled him to the marrow.

"It’s him!" He recognized the man in the blood qi as Daoist Fang.

Most frightening were the two blood Jiao. Whatever they truly were, their aura was incomparably fierce. Remembering the earlier events and Daoist Fang's origins, Qin Sang guessed they were a pair of the famed supernatural insects, the Blood Corpse Insects.

Third-metamorphosis Blood Corpse Insects, and two of them at once! Black Snake Mountain’s foundations ran terrifyingly deep.

No wonder Daoist Fang had managed to hold off Landou Sect’s five Golden Core cultivators for so long. It must have been thanks to these insects.

Behind the blood qi, another streak of evasion light was in pursuit. Judging by its aura, it was Abbot Lu. At the peak of the Core Formation Realm, Abbot Lu had not only survived within the blood sea but even fought back.

Yet his speed was slightly slower than Daoist Fang's, leaving him behind.

Seeing this, Qin Sang’s heart sank. If even Abbot Lu had been trapped for so long before breaking free, then if Daoist Fang caught him, his fate would be grim.

His expression hardened. He dared not linger any longer. Pouring his full strength into the Devilish Flames of Nine Hells, he sent them rolling toward the remaining banners. At the same time, his ebony sword slashed once more toward the passage’s exit.

Then he activated the Nine-Dragon Heavenly Chariot Talisman and other life-saving treasures. Without looking back, he vanished across the horizon in a few flashes.

Daoist Fang, riding the two blood Jiao, sped forward, no slower than Qin Sang. Though he did not yet know the full situation, when he saw the banners destroyed by Qin Sang, he realized something was wrong.

As he reached the exit of the passage, ready to continue the chase, a scream rang out from within. It was the voice of his junior brother.
