Gateway of Immortality-Chapter 907 The Mighty Forces of Heaven and Earth
On a deserted island...
At sunset, crimson clouds filled the sky and a red tide crashed against the shore. A streak of evasion light, like a shooting star, sped in. It paused above the island, then angled downward and flashed into the central forest, revealing a figure carrying a black coffin. It was Qin Sang.
After retrieving his incarnation, he had flown in one direction nonstop for a day and a night. Once he was sure he was safe, he descended upon this island to rest for a moment and inspect his spoils.
Glancing around, Qin Sang drove his ebony sword to dig a cave at the base of an old tree. He set several concealment barriers, slipped into the cave dwelling, and the island returned to silence.
Inside the cave dwelling, after a brief adjustment of his breathing, Qin Sang took out two Mustard Seed Pouches and placed them before him.
Each pouch bore the hasty seals he had set. With a wave he dispelled them and poured out the contents.
At first, he did not notice the stone platform; after a search, he failed to find the treasure he had imagined.
There were, however, a dozen Beast King Banners. Qin Sang grouped them with the one he had obtained earlier, intending to study them carefully later; perhaps he could replicate a full set.
He also gathered up a large number of spirit stones, pills, spiritual materials, and the like.
The black-robed man and the dwarf were Core Formation cultivators from a big witch race sect, high in status and exceptionally wealthy.
With these gains, plus the astonishing haul from killing Black Snake Mountain’s fourth disciple earlier, he would not need to worry about cultivation resources for the decades before Seven-Kill Hall opened.
Even so, after thinking it through, Qin Sang realized his realm would stagnate before long; body refinement and nurturing his external incarnation did not actually consume that much.
Next, he beckoned a jade slip into his palm and eagerly examined it. The jade slip contained two parts. One was a cultivation art titled Yuanchen Records. The other was a Dao Technique titled Lightning Control Technique.
"Lightning Control Technique..." Qin Sang’s heart stirred, and a hint of delight crossed his face. "This Dao Technique should be the dreadful lightning art used earlier by the Douniu Peak cultivator."
Lightning Control Technique had left a deep impression on him. That time had truly skirted disaster. He and four other Core Formation cultivators had been controlling the Heavenly Cold Wind Array, yet even from such a distance the lightning had shattered their array by force. Its residual power remained terrifying, destroying his Golden Radiance Armor. The memory still sent a chill through him.
If not for the Sky-Eyed Butterfly’s coincidental mastery of a lightning-controlling supernatural ability, he might not have escaped so easily. The lightning had contained the power of stellar malevolence, which had greatly piqued Qin Sang’s curiosity.
However, Lightning Control Technique was not what he needed most urgently. He skimmed it, then carefully read through Yuanchen Records, and disappointment showed on his face. It was not what he had expected.
Douniu Peak’s true handed-down teaching was not a cultivation art at all, but this immensely powerful Dao Technique. It was unsure whether Yuanchen Records was a cultivation art discovered or devised specifically to accompany Lightning Control Technique, but there was no intrinsic connection between Yuanchen Records and Lightning Control Technique.
Lightning Control Technique was an independent inheritance. Perhaps it had once had a matching cultivation art that was lost for unknown reasons, rendering it impossible to practice alone, hence the search for Yuanchen Records. Qin Sang had seen this sort of thing more than once and was not surprised.
Yuanchen Records was a very mediocre art. Its only unique point was that cultivating it helped resist and dissolve malevolent qi invading the body.
The true intent of the Dao Technique was to borrow the power of stellar malevolence to command the might of lightning, hence the name Lightning Control Technique. That was why, when he was struck by lightning, he had sensed the odd coexistence of stellar malevolence and lightning.
People delighted in the dreamlike beauty of the cosmic orbit’s stars and feared the chaotic, ghastly stellar malevolence. Little did they know that the mighty forces of heaven and earth were innumerable, each mysterious and powerful, with no inherent good or evil. To heaven and earth, immortal cultivators were but ants slightly larger than mortals; fear arose from ignorance.
While others feared stellar malevolence like a tiger, in both the human and demon races there had been peerless predecessors who sought to master this power and thus forged two very different paths.
Heavenly Demon Body Refinement drew on the star power of the cosmic orbit to temper the body, using stellar malevolence to refine the bloodline, ascending step by step to the realm of the heavenly demon.
Lightning Control Technique, with the aid of stellar malevolence, harnessed another mighty force of heaven and earth and, in one stroke, created a top-tier Dao Technique.
Unfortunately, humans were not as innately favored as demonic beasts, and hidden dangers lay buried within this Dao Technique. While cultivating Lightning Control Technique, stellar malevolence easily invaded the primordial spirit and was hard to eradicate. Going mad was the mild outcome, forcing one to seek ways to resolve it.
Landou Sect had found Yuanchen Records in hopes of solving this hidden danger. They most likely failed. Otherwise, the Douniu Peak branch would not have been abandoned.
Neither Yuanchen Records nor Lightning Control Technique mentioned Star Essence Infusion, so it seemed like this was an unwalkable path.
Even so, after racking his brains and plotting for nearly a year, he had reaped a rich harvest. He had foiled his enemies’ scheme, vented his resentment, and obtained both a cultivation art and a Dao Technique of use to him. The cultivation art was, of course, the Yin-Yang Tiandou Secret Technique.
With the Jade Buddha protecting his body, he had no fear of stellar malevolence, so Yuanchen Records meant little to him.
Of all the arts Qin Sang had seen over the years, setting aside extraordinary arts such as Primordial Spirit Sword Nourishment and Heavenly Demon Body Refinement, the one that had impressed him most was in fact Landou Sect’s Yin-Yang Branch's handed-down art, the Yin-Yang Tiandou Secret Technique.
When he formed his core, he had, by a twist of fate, condensed Earth Malevolent Qi and refined Celestial Gale Qi into his core. Because of these two wonders of heaven and earth, he possessed deeper insight into the Dao of Yin-Yang than most.
And the Yin-Yang Tiandou Secret Technique condensed the Yin-Yang Armor at the very beginning and cultivated yin-yang qi. His incarnation had learned the first stage of the Yin-Yang Tiandou Secret Technique, and it was indeed quite marvelous. In ancient times it must have been a grand legacy of the righteous path. One could well imagine that cultivating this art would aid Core Formation.
Yet the Yin-Yang Branch had declined to this point, which made Qin Sang suspect that the later predecessor who devised its follow-up art might not have grasped the true intent of the original art. His interest waned accordingly. Still, the Yin-Yang Armor could veil Buddhist light, which at least solved a minor hidden worry.
What pleased Qin Sang most, of course, was the Lightning Control Technique.
This supernatural ability possessed tremendous power. Others shrank back from stellar malevolence and dared not cultivate it; he was not concerned in the least. Moreover, since he cultivated Heavenly Demon Body Refinement, practicing this Dao Technique would also benefit him.
If he could master Lightning Control Technique, it would undoubtedly become a killing trump, even stronger than the star turban. Once he broke through to the late stage of the Core Formation Realm, it would be a means capable of threatening Spiritual Infant grandmasters.
So long as Heavenly Demon Body Refinement advanced smoothly, cultivating both spells and body, attaining late-stage Core Formation strength would not be difficult.
Qin Sang knew his limits and would not lightly provoke Spiritual Infant grandmasters. Even so, the world changed unpredictably, and Seven-Kill Hall was full of uncertainties. No one could say what the future held.
He read Lightning Control Technique several more times, etched the Dao Technique deep into his mind, pondered it carefully, and, once he was sure there were no issues, confirmed that he could cultivate it.
