Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya-Chapter 106: You Call This Thing a Lizard?
Chapter 106 - 106: You Call This Thing a Lizard?
Bai Luo didn't shy away from killing. As a blade of the Fatui, he had long since lost count of the number of lives taken directly or indirectly by his hand in his early years. Killing now carried little weight for him, especially when it came to Treasure Hoarders.
The Treasure Hoarders in Teyvat weren't just simple grave robbers as described in the game. They would do anything for treasure—murder and plunder came as naturally as eating and drinking. Even their own members weren't safe, for they were a motley crew of avarice with no bonds of loyalty.
So when Bai Luo killed their leader with a single strike, the rest scattered like frightened birds, disappearing into the forest.
"Remember! My name is Tartaglia! Don't go looking for the wrong guy when you seek revenge!"
As he watched the retreating figures, Bai Luo couldn't resist shouting out a name. Tartaglia was a Harbinger, and Bai Luo was a Harbinger as well. Close enough, right?
After all, it wasn't like these Treasure Hoarders were really going to seek out Tartaglia. Let him take the blame—or rather, the credit. It wasn't a bad reputation to carry as someone upholding justice.
Bai Luo patted himself on the back internally.
What a kind-hearted person I am.
Only Qiqi looked at Bai Luo with a puzzled expression. Wasn't his name Luo Bai?
The herbs Qiqi was gathering were for a mission set by Ningguang, though technically delivered through Baizhu. Alone, Qiqi would need at least ten days to complete the task due to her occasional memory lapses and command mishaps.
But with Bai Luo's help, they had gathered nearly everything in less than three days—only one ingredient remained.
"Lizards? Like this one?"
Bai Luo casually plucked a lizard from a crack in a rock and held it up. These creatures were plentiful in damp areas, hardly rare.
"A bit bigger than that," Qiqi replied.
Qiqi wasn't new to catching lizards, but her memory was hazy. She only remembered that the lizards she needed liked to burrow underground, making them difficult to catch and requiring a lot of chasing.
"Oh, you mean hatchling Geovishaps?"
The mention of those little creatures reminded Bai Luo of Sayu. He still regretted not catching her that day in Inazuma. Maybe he'd look for her the next time he visited, bringing carrots and sunsettias as offerings. She would surely appreciate them.
"That sounds about right," Qiqi said after some thought.
When they reached their destination, Bai Luo fell silent.
"You're calling this thing... a lizard?"
He stared at the enormous creature slumbering in the cave. Even with mental preparation, he hadn't expected this.
The massive beast's body was covered in crimson crystals, with its rocky surface marked by faint red patterns. It lay sprawled in the cave, its heavy breathing occasionally exhaling bursts of searing flames. Even from dozens of meters away, Bai Luo could feel the intense heat.
"A slightly larger lizard," Qiqi clarified.
"..."
Technically accurate, Bai Luo thought, though the creature's classification as a lizard was debatable. Perhaps Collei, currently studying in Sumeru, could identify the species more precisely.
Setting her herb basket aside, Qiqi rolled up her sleeves and prepared to face the beast, her demeanor suggesting she was accustomed to this sort of task.
"You do this often?" Bai Luo asked.
"Mm-hmm. It's obedient, just not cute," Qiqi replied.
"..."
Obedient was debatable, Bai Luo thought, but there was no denying it wasn't cute.
"I'll handle this," Bai Luo said. He couldn't imagine how this petite girl—barely larger than the creature's claw—managed to deal with such a formidable foe.
At least, he thought, it's just an Ancient Geovishap and not Azhdaha.
With his form concealed, Bai Luo descended silently from above. While his outfit resembled that of a one-winged angel and limited his gliding abilities, it granted him immunity to fall damage. A fair trade-off, he mused.
Landing quietly, Bai Luo's arrival didn't rouse the Ancient Geovishap, which continued to sleep soundly. Bai Luo's invisibility was potent enough to elude even the Seven Archons.
Climbing onto the beast's back, Bai Luo aimed for the crimson crystal embedded there.
"This must be it," he muttered, pulling out his dagger.
The crystal was a Juvenile Jade, a unique substance found only on Ancient Geovishaps. Said to harbor the potential to become a true dragon, this crystal could replace a Geovishap's heart over time, transforming it into a dragon capable of shaking mountains and rending the earth.
The jade was prized not only for aiding practitioners in breaking through limits but also as a key ingredient in medicine, prized for its ability to enhance vision and circulation. Its rarity and efficacy made it worth a fortune, surpassing even the finest Everlasting Incense, which cost 3 million Mora.
Given its value, the difficulty of obtaining it wasn't surprising. According to Qiqi's notes, it would take over a dozen strikes to dislodge a single piece with a sword. With Bai Luo's dagger, it might take even longer.
Positioning himself, Bai Luo swung his dagger at the crystal's base.
Crack—
Faint blue sparks of electricity danced across the Geovishap's body. The sudden attack paralyzed the beast mid-snore, leaving it stunned.
"Was that a critical hit?" Bai Luo wondered aloud, marveling at how the crystal came free with a single strike. Glancing at the now-awake and confused Ancient Geovishap, Bai Luo understood what had happened.
His passive ability carried an added paralysis effect that operated under different rules than Teyvat's elemental system. It could paralyze skeletons, petrify stone creatures, and ignite fire dragons. Even Electro beings could be paralyzed.
A strange mechanic, Bai Luo thought, akin to using a Reverse Blade Sword enchanted to prevent killing—even if it pierced a heart.
He briefly entertained the idea of testing his ability on Electro Slimes to see if he could achieve the unique feat of paralyzing them.
The attack, however, broke his invisibility. The Ancient Geovishap, now fully aware of Bai Luo's presence, fixed its glowing red eyes on him.
"Ruaaah—"
Already used to being bullied by a herb-collecting child, the Geovishap now faced a new tormentor who had stolen its Juvenile Jade.
This it could not abide.
With a roar, the beast slammed its claws into the ground, its fiery gaze locked onto Bai Luo.
