Chapter 140: Chapter 140:’Zhou Susu’

His hand didn’t have much strength but suddenly he felt as if someone was helping him, his weak hand gained energy and he hurriedly took out that talisman.

One by one he threw it on the ghastly hand.

Even after throwing away 6 to 7 talismans, the ghastly hand remained unharmed.

A mocking voice sounded behind him,

"Hehe! Stupid! Stupid!"

What made Jiang Lei more afraid was the fact that there was an echo around him of the same word.

Looking at the last 3 talismans, Jiang Lei suddenly felt a huge amount of regret.

If only he had listened to Yu Holea’s warning.

If only he had canceled the trip and warned his friends not to come here...

Jiang Lei looked at the last 3 talismans and knew that this talisman belonged to Yu Holea.

It was because these talismans were given by his cousin sister Jiang Wei.

He knew that Yu Holea was the one who asked Jiang Wei to pass this talisman.

Jiang Lei couldn’t think anymore as he was starting to feel dizzy and in his dizziness, he threw the talisman on the ghastly hand.

Suddenly a shriek sounded and the arm choking him left.

When the ghastly hand around his neck left, Jiang Lei weakly lay on the ground.

Then he remembered Xia Meng and Jiang Lei flicked one more talisman in Xia Meng’s direction.

And as expected the ghastly hand around Xia Meng’s neck also retreated, and he gasped for breath, collapsing to the ground beside Jiang Lei.

Both of them were now trembling with fear, their bodies weak from the encounter with the malevolent spirit.

However, Jiang Lei felt a little confident when he saw the yellow talisman in his hand.

Xia Meng soon came out of his dizziness and his first question to Jiang Lei was,

"What did you do just now? Thank you so much for saving me!"

Jiang Lei shook his head and said,

"I did nothing. It was this talisman that saved us."

Xia Meng looked at the last yellow talisman and said with a greedy face,

"Lei sell it to me, didn’t you want my Mercedes Benz? I will give it to you!"

Jiang Lei was both relieved and amused by Xia Meng’s reaction.

He knew that the talisman was indeed powerful and had saved them from the ghost’s grasp.

However, he wasn’t interested in trading it for Xia Meng’s car.

Only an idiot would agree to this request.

"Xia Meng, the talisman is not for sale," Jiang Lei said, his voice firm.

"Besides, I’m not interested in your car anymore. Let’s just focus on getting out of here safely."

Xia Meng pouted, disappointed that his offer had been rejected, but before he could say anything more, he heard Jiang Lei’s serious voice,

"We should run before other ghosts attack us."

When Xia Meng heard the word ghost, his entire body trembled and he hurriedly stood up.

Jiang Lei said to Xia Meng,

"Hold my hand and run with me."

Xia Meng showed a disgusted expression but when he remembered that he would die if he didn’t follow Jiang Lei, he held Jiang Lei’s hand.

Jiang Lei and Xia Meng walked along the dimly lit street, their hearts still racing from their chilling encounter at the haunted graveyard.

The moon cast an eerie glow over the surroundings, and the atmosphere was heavy with a sense of unease.

"Man, that was crazy," Xia Meng said, breaking the silence. "I can’t believe we actually encountered those...things."

Jiang Lei nodded, his mind still replaying the events in the graveyard. "Yeah, it was like something out of a horror movie."

Since they had the last talisman with them, they were not so afraid.

But at the same time, they tried their best to get out of the forest.

Since it was dark and there was no light, they weren’t able to find a way out of the forest.

This seemingly small forest became large for them.

And with each passing time, fear was engulfing them.

As they walked, a figure ahead caught their attention. It was Zhou Susu.

She was standing by the side of the road, her back turned to them.

Suddenly both of them remembered that Zhou Susu was not present at the time when they were being attacked...so what was she doing here now?

Jiang Lei and Xia Meng exchanged glances, wondering if she had experienced something similar in the graveyard.

"Hey, Zhou Susu!" Xia Meng called out as they approached her. "Are you okay?"

Zhou Susu turned around, and the sight of her face sent a shiver down Jiang Lei’s spine.

Her expression was vacant, her eyes empty of emotion.

It was as if she was looking right through them.

"Zhou Susu?" Jiang Lei said, his voice laced with concern. "Are you alright?"

She didn’t respond, her gaze fixed on a point beyond them.

Jiang Lei exchanged a worried glance with Xia Meng before stepping closer.

"Zhou Susu, it’s us—Jiang Lei and Xia Meng," he said gently.

It was his first time using such a gentle tone since the moment he met, Zhou Susu.

Suddenly, Zhou Susu’s gaze shifted, and her eyes locked onto Jiang Lei.

It was as if she had snapped out of a trance.

She blinked confusion and fear flickering in her eyes.

"J-Jiang Lei? Xia Meng?" she stammered.

Xia Meng let out a sigh of relief.

"Yeah, it’s us. Are you okay? Where did you go just now? How did you appear here when you were clearly with us? And why didn’t you help us?"

Xia Meng had many questions.

It was quite strange that the ghost attacked them but not her and now she was meeting them in such an abandoned place.

Zhou Susu’s hands trembled slightly, and she seemed to be struggling to find her words.

"I... I don’t know. Something strange happened when I was with you all, when I followed you all I saw Ling Na and I followed her but she suddenly disappeared. Then everything went blurry. Thank god, I met you both here"’

Her eyes were filled with gratitude.

Jiang Lei exchanged a knowing glance with Xia Meng.

It seemed that Zhou Susu had also encountered something supernatural.

"Zhou Susu, you’re not the only one," Jiang Lei said.

"We had a pretty unsettling experience in there too. It’s like the ghost stories were real."

As he said this he decided to give a treat to Yu Holea if he was able to meet her after tonight.

Zhou Susu nodded, her eyes wide.

"I can’t believe this too. But... I felt a presence behind me, and I was so scared."

Xia Meng placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"It’s over now. We’re all out of there, and we’re safe."

After going through such incidents, he was filled with compassion and didn’t mind Zhou Susu’s timidness anymore.

As they spoke, Zhou Susu’s gaze kept flickering between Jiang Lei and Xia Meng, as if she was searching for something.

Jiang Lei noticed her behavior and asked, "Is there something else bothering you, Zhou Susu?"

She hesitated for a moment before speaking, her voice shaky.

"I... I had this strange feeling, like someone was following me. But every time I turned around, there was no one there."

Jiang Lei exchanged a concerned look with Xia Meng.

It was as if Zhou Susu had been haunted by something.

"We’ll stay with you," Xia Meng said reassuringly. "You’re not alone."

After all the more the merrier! Might be the ghost get frightened by their huge number and don’t attack them!

Just then, Zhou Susu’s expression shifted.

Her eyes grew distant again, and her body seemed to go rigid.

She turned her gaze toward a nearby alley, her lips moving as if she was whispering something.

Jiang Lei and Xia Meng exchanged worried glances, unsure of what was happening.

Zhou Susu’s behavior was becoming increasingly unsettling.

"Zhou Susu?" Jiang Lei called out, his voice laced with concern.

Zhou Susu’s gaze snapped back to them, her eyes now filled with fear.

"It’s here. It’s right behind you."

Jiang Lei and Xia Meng turned around, their hearts racing.

But there was nothing there—just an empty alley. Confusion and apprehension filled the air as they tried to make sense of Zhou Susu’s words.

Just then, Zhou Susu let out a blood-curdling scream, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Jiang Lei and Xia Meng were frightened.

"Zhou Susu, what’s wrong?" Xia Meng asked urgently.
